2015 CFDA Awards Red Carpet

Now that you’re all caught up with who was nominated for the 2015 CFDA Awards…let’s see who wore what on last night’s red carpet. Are you ready for this?

amanda seyfried

Amanda Seyfried in Rodarte
Best Dressed Pick

This event, in my eyes at least, is like the Met Gala’s slightly toned down and more casual younger sister. It’s still 100% encouraged to take a fashion risk, but you won’t see any egg / pizza meme potential here (at least not for the most part). With that said, Amanda has that ideal balance of taking a risk and being perfectly appropriate for the event. The slightly smokey eye with the simple straight hair pairs well with the complex dress. You have to appreciate Rodarte for all the detail that goes into those dresses…and this one is no exception!

diane kruger

Diane Kruger in Prabal Gurung

You know I love Prabal and Diane can do no wrong BUT with this dress being shiny, red AND strapless, it’s just not my favorite. The fit is perfect so it’s really just a matter of taste with this one. Although when I say the fit is perfect I mean the dress…those shoes just look awkward.

emmy rossum

Emmy Rossum in Dion Lee
Best Dressed Pick

Although this look isn’t particularly ground breaking, I have to recognize the fact that she wore Dion Lee on the red carpet (and coming from someone who’s a huge fan of Australian designers, this is kind of a big deal). Typically I’d say it’s better to wear an American designer to this event, as it’s the CFDA — Council of Fashion Designers of America — Awards, BUT because her footwear choice is Paul Andrew (who was nominated for the Swarovski Award for Accessory Design), that definitely makes up for it. And it doesn’t hurt the situation that this Dion Lee top (which sort of resembles the top half of this dress) is on my wishlist 😉

 Janelle Monae Tadashi Shoji

Janelle Monae in Tadashi Shoji

If I hadn’t seen her red carpet history, I would have this on my best dressed list in a heartbeat (it is a gold embroidered cape dress after all). BUT she wears Tadashi Shoji all too often, as well as capes, as well as embroidered capes along with embroidered Tadashi Shoji capes. So it’s not that I don’t think this is fantastic (because I do) it’s that I would like to see something a little more unexpected from her.

bella hadid

Bella Hadid in Misha Nonoo

I’ve mentioned a few times here on CCF that I’m always on the hunt for the perfect jumpsuit. This is one I would LOVE to have BUT it needs a little more of a wow factor to be on point for the CFDA Awards.

Tinashe

Tinashe in Public School

I have no idea who this is. I adore the look. NOT for this specific occasion (perhaps best suited for dinner and a warehouse party in Brooklyn).

Vanessa Hudgens in Sachin & Babi

Absolutely nothing fashiony about this…at all.

binx walton

This is one of those looks I completely appreciate (would actually be super cool for editorial) but because it’s not my style, I just have to be indifferent about the whole thing.

rachel zoe

Rachel Zoe in her own design

According to her Instagram, this dress is actually hand beaded…which is pretty spectacular. I would actually wear this dress myself, which I can’t say for most of Rachel’s outfit choices. The detail is beautiful, the color is perfect and I actually adore it all paired those gold platforms.

victoria beckham

Victoria Beckham in her own design

Simple. Chic. Yet boring as hell.

ruthie davis

Ruthie Davis

This would be the Real Housewife that all the other housewives in shiny jewel tone strapless dresses HATE.

mary kate and ashley

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen in The Row

I’ve gotten more dressed up than this to go to dinner. But it’s MK+A. This is who they are. They wear oversized neutral clothing (so…why they created The Row) with flats (even though they’re maybe 5 feet tall). Regardless of the occasion. It works for them…and we love them for it.

coco rocha

Coco Rocha in Marissa Webb

No…just no.

hilary rhoda

Hilary Rhoda in J. Mendel

Fine?

dree hemingway

Dree Hemingway in The Row

SPEAKING OF THE ROW REALNESS…

Hanne Gaby Odiele

If you’re going for 90s goth stripper then…NAILED IT.

Chrissy Teigen

Pretty but it’s been done. Also find it odd that she went as a guest of Stuart Weitzman yet you barely notice the shoes.

Imaan Hammam

Imaan Hammam in Creatures of the Wind

Creatures of the Wind has this special aesthetic that I don’t think everyone gets. When you see their designs on the red carpet, it takes a certain eye to appreciate. This doesn’t really fall in that category though. I think most people would find this pretty, and although I’m a bit surprised to see this is a COTW piece…I still dig it (odd shoe choice though).

nina dobrev

Nina Dobrev in Lela Rose

On 3. Ready? 1…2…3…BASIC!

Pharrell Williams Helen Lasichanh

Jeans and biker boots on the CFDA Awards red carpet…who would’ve thought?
