Back To Bassike

I’ve always found it kind of funny (also, slightly frustrating) that the most simple things in life are the most difficult to find. The ideal salad (that’s actually satisfying and filling…why can’t we have both?), a mascara that does what it says it will do (but wait, I just found that) and perfect basics. There’s a ton of companies out there who offer “the perfect basics” (t-shirts, jeans, sweaters, etc.) but the styles tend to be on the boring side. So, do basics have to be boring?

There must be something in the water down under because yet again, Australia brings us the answer — a not so basic, Bassike.

bassike, perfect basics

I had briefly mentioned here about a brand carried at one of my favorite Aussie boutiques that may or may not need its own post on CCF. And sure enough, it happened.

The first not so basic Bassike that caught my eye were these silk shorts at Tuchuzy (which of course ended up in my closet and worn the very next day). I debated them at first because they could easily look like pajamas…but ironically that was the same reason I was into them. I wore them during the day with flat sandals and a tank, but I’m also thinking about their next move — perhaps a light sweater and heels? No rush…this won’t be happening for another couple of months (unless I decide to bust these out at Coachella).

bassike, basics

After a visit to the Bassike store as well as many other Australian boutiques that carry the brand, I couldn’t stop after those shorts. These track pants happen to be my current obsession. They’re the perfect comfortable, easy-to-wear pants that don’t 100% look like sweatpants (maybe 74%). The only thing that could make them better is if they were leather. Oh hey, those do exist…and they’re on sale.

So I thought I’d take this opportunity today to not only share this cool brand with you and to thank founders/designers Deborah Sams and Mary-Lou Ryan for filling a void in all of our lives but also to encourage any US boutique owners out there to pick up Bassike so I don’t have to pay $30 in shipping from Australia. Just think about it.

You can shop Bassike online (they even have mens if your guy is interested or you just prefer mens clothing…because it’s a proven fact their basics are better than ours and will get stolen immediately by girlfriends/friends-with-benefits worldwide) and if you happen to find it in any US stores (brick-and-mortar or e-commerce) TELL ME IMMEDIATELY.

What do you think of Bassike? Have you heard about it? If not, have I convinced you the $30 shipping is totally worth it? Or did Christine Centenera in the in the bonded leather top do the trick?
