Ciara The Great

Is it just me or has Ciara been really killing it in the fashion department as of late? Was she always a style star and I never realized it? Let’s discuss a little further.

Now I can’t call her an icon because we just went over that yesterday but would I like to raid her closet? Survey says YES.

I’ve taken some interest in her style in the last couple of months but it wasn’t until the other day (see below) where I was like okay, I’m bowing down now.

She’s basically showing nipple but she’s still completely covered up at the same time…and for daytime TV. Not many can pull that off but DAMN she looks good. However, it hasn’t always been this way. And because it’s Thursday, let’s throw it back for a minute.

The most ironic part about this photo is that it was taken in Cannes in 2005. This is the least chic thing I’ve ever seen in Cannes. But it was 2005 so I’ll let this one slide.

Do you see why I hate on everything between 2000 and 2008? Right in the middle, 2005, this is what was in style.

Fast forward a bit to 2010 and we’re definitely getting warmer (with a little help from Balmain).

Clearly a trendsetter, rocking the lace up trend four years before its prime. Side note, can we be thankful that platform pumps are out?

I remember this Pucci dress at the 2011 Grammys…although I wish I didn’t. I like to think of this as a so-close-yet-so-far fashion moment.

Would’ve never thought to put Ciara in Prabal Gurung at the Met Gala but like I mentioned for 2010…definitely getting warmer.

Then BAM! Carine Roitfeld’s Irreverent dinner. Paris Fashion Week. 2011. Although you better bring it if you’re going to anything that involves the words “Carine Roitfeld” or “Paris Fashion Week”…a cape will do just that.

And then in 2013 at the Givenchy show, this is where I found the Ciara I know and love today.

Even more Givenchy at the 2013 VMAs.

2013 was definitely the year of Givenchy + Ciara…AND I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT.

Switching it up with some Pucci in the same year. Not hating it. (PS. Hair goals)

However I do prefer her off-the-red-carpet style. Exhibit 2014: LEATHER OVERALLS.

That brings me to present day, 2015. This is when I start bowing down.

She can even pull off the most fashion-forward karate outfit ever (I would know, as I was a white belt at one point in my life).

At NYFW this year — no more comments necessary.

So am I just late to the game on this whole Ciara thing or has her fashion status just gone up significantly in the last couple of years? What’s been your favorite look of hers over the last 10 years?
