Fall Has Sprung

So I went from wearing shorts and a t-shirt yesterday afternoon to freezing my ass off in a sweatshirt this morning…you know what that means? I live in Chicago…and fall has sprung.

Doesn’t sound as catchy as spring has sprung, but you get the picture.

We knew it was coming. It’s not like it’s a surprise. But when my weather app says 80 degrees one day and 51 the next, it’s like at least take me to dinner first before we get to second base, you know? Of course, there’s nothing we can do about it except complain on Twitter and share fall fashion selfies with hashtags like #timetolayer #fallingforfall and #HOLYKNITS (you can interpret that one however you please).

I feel like it was just yesterday (because it was only last week) I was talking about transitioning to fall and that may have been the shortest transition period in history. Now we are in full-blown autumn before you can even say CHUNKY KNITS. Next thing you know, you’ll be overhearing basic bitches (with Pumpkin Spice Lattes in hand) stressing out over coordinating Halloween costumes with their besties. But besides that…as the only fashion person who doesn’t “literally die” for fall fashion, I still enjoy it…and I have to be optimistic about the situation. I can’t be a Negative Nancy this whole cold weather season (which is quite long, might I add…that would just be a Debbie Downer). So how can we spin a positive on this? Well for one, it’s an excuse to shop. One does need short flat ankle boots, even shorter flat ankle boots, mid-calf flat boots, tall flat boots and tall-heeled boots…at the very least. Or you can be like these ladies and get yourself a room full of Chanel.

I’m also pretty pumped to wear this cashmere blanket/cape situation I recently got at space519. I could tell you all about it, but you can experience my love for it right here. It sort of makes me feel like an Olsen, but I guess that’s not such a bad thing…

Take it from this Olsen (I still can’t tell them apart…I’ve never been good with twins), that we can also switch back to hot coffee (I’ll just tell myself I was “so over” iced coffee anyway). And it’s time for every fashion person’s favorite word for fall — LAYERING (thankfully it’s not a journey, so we don’t piss off Anna). It’s also a good day for hats, which I’ve expressed several times that I tell myself every fall season I will wear them more…hopefully this will be the year I actually follow through with it.

And although I love oversized anything for all seasons (I do not discriminate) I prefer big fall clothes — sweaters, coats, pants…you name it, I’m wearing it…if it’s extra roomy (especially for that holiday weight gain, which I can never seem to avoid).

So those are just a few reasons today’s 50 degree weather isn’t the worst thing in the world. If you’re looking for some fall wardrobe upgrades, here’s a few of my favorite things on the web right now.

What about you? What are you looking forward to wearing this fall?
