The Skirt Situation

After talking about my issues with skirts in yesterday’s post, I decided to use that as inspiration for today’s discussion. If you feel like a lady who lunches or a Gossip Girl character (from the early seasons, of course) when you put on a skirt then this post is for you. If not, at least you’ll find some inspiration for some of the coolest skirts available this season. They’re pretty awesome, trust me on this one.

See how badass this chick looks? You don’t always have to look like such a lady when it comes to your skirt situation. Like I’ve mentioned before, when I put on a skirt it might be a great print or an amazing fit but I rarely feel myself in one (with very few exceptions, see below). Because I love a good fashion challenge, I’ve been trying to find more skirts that don’t make me feel like a hooker or like I’m going to church (two opposite ends of the spectrum but that just shows how versatile a skirt really is). I feel like I’ve been doing pretty well so far…what do you think?

My first ever leather skirt (pictured above) I’ve actually worn a few times. You may recognize it from the Azza belt giveaway earlier this year but probably not because it’s just a leather skirt (not all that memorable, but very versatile). The second skirt is one seen in yesterday’s Topshop Fall preview post (and it also happens to be a sneak peek for what’s coming this Friday on ChiCityFashion). So you’ll get the what, the why and of course the where later this week. And lastly, the PJK bra top and skirt I wore to Pitchfork this year was probably the most “ballsy” outfit I went for all Summer. I typically don’t show that much skin but it was like 90 degrees so I thought it’s now or never. I’ve worn this skirt before with a cropped black tank and flat sandals. It’s definitely the most feminine of the skirts I own but as always, if I like something enough and it fits properly, I’m going to do what I can to make it work.

Whether you’re doing leather, A-line, pleated, or whatever strikes your fancy, these are the types of skirts I can get on board with this season. Which one’s your favorite?

  1. I completely agree! They are really very versatile and even with the least feminine women I encounter, it is rare that we cannot find at least one skirt that looks super badass! LOVE the orange Rag & Bone
