Fall Wardrobe Updates

Now that fashion month is pretty much over, we all know there’s a lot we can learn from the runways. But what about the streets? Dare we try fur slides this season?

fashion week street style

Last year I wrote a similar post about style combinations you should try for spring, inspired by the streets. This time around, it’s more about individual items, as well as combinations, we’ve been seeing a lot of (and we’ll probably see even more of in the coming months). But most importantly, I want to know if you find these pieces inspiring enough to give it a try yourself? Or are you going to stick with what you know? Before you answer that, see if you would ever incorporate any of these into your outfit.

A bustier over a shirt. I’ve seen this look done super chic before (minimal, black / white, simple hair and makeup) but as far as me giving it a shot? I’m pretty opposed to all things strapless, and although a completely different vibe over a button down, I’m not sure if this is something that really fits my personal style.

Over-the-knee boots. Not really a trend because you can always rock over the knee boots this time of year, but they seem to be extra popular this season (especially celebs wearing the open toe variety…which I despise…why would a boot with that much material need to be open-toe?!) If you’re going to try this, I’d wear with a dress or a skirt…as OTK boots with skinny anything can easily look dated. I got a pair from Zara last year as I wasn’t sure if I’m willing to invest just yet. I’ve only worn them a couple times so we’ll see what happens this Fall / Winter!

A short cross-body bag. I’m not sure what it is with fashion girls and extra short cross-body bags but they seem to love ’em! I prefer mine a little longer but you can’t go a fashion week without seeing one above the hip. Most cross body bags are adjustable so you wouldn’t necessarily need to buy one this short if you wanted to try this look. You an always knot the top to make it shorter if it’s not adjustable.

Cropped flares. Culottes happened, flares resurfaced and now cropped flares are in full swing. I don’t find this to be the most flattering trend but I think it can look cool when done right. I’m highly considering giving this a shot BUT I’m not fully committed. You always have to cross your fingers with a trend like this, hoping you don’t look back on this in 2-10 years from now being all like how embarrassingly 2015…

Skinny scarves. I tend to only be a scarf person for practical purposes. When walking anywhere during a Chicago winter, you need a chunky piece of cashmere and / or wool around your neck to survive. When it comes to silk scarves or other not-so-practical versions of the accessory, I’ve never really had them in my wardrobe. Not because I don’t like them, more because I don’t ever think to buy them. I used to be that way about hats back in the day and a lot has changed over the years (mostly thanks to Maison Michel) so ya never know! You might just see me in cropped flares with a skinny scarf this Fall. Keyword: MIGHT.

Striped boots. These might be the craziest of all items mentioned today, but with a super simple outfit, they could be the key to your next level wardrobe this season. Wear with caution though — I’m always down for mixing prints, but make sure your prints are true friends and not frenemies. You feel me?

What other trends did you notice on the streets this fashion month? Any you’re going to try incorporating into your wardrobe? Any favorites from today’s post?

And now we can all…

Because fashion month is [basically] OVA.
