2015 Grammys Red Carpet (Part 2)

All caught up with part 1 of who wore what last night? Great. Now, let’s get to the good stuff. Like this…

rihanna

Rihanna in Giambattista Valli Couture

When I first saw her step out of the car, of course with just a few seconds left of the red carpet coverage, I had an immediate WTF moment. I started thinking of things like loofas and cakes then I became hungry and took a shower. HOWEVER, as time goes on and I look at more and more photos…this is somehow growing on me. Would I ever look at the runway dress and think this must be on Rihanna for the Grammys? Absolutely not. It’s interesting to see her in something so extravagant and girly like this when we all know her as BAD GAL RIRI.

taylor swift

Taylor Swift in custom Elie Saab

This is a tough one as this color looks unbelievable on her and it’s refreshing to see her not in something neutral and sparkly but there are way too many elements fighting each other here and it’s not working in her favor. If this was just a full length dress or just a mini, I could even deal with the oddly placed extra straps…maybe even the random pink shoes. But this as it is, I can’t (or if we’re speaking in basic, I can’t even).

zendaya

Zendaya in Vivienne Westwood

I just had to Google how old she is because I knew she was young. Here she looks like she’s at least 30 but she’s only 18! No one that young needs to have such severe hair and makeup, regardless of the event. Plus, every other part of this look is just awful — one sleeve gowns (gross), these color combinations (terrible), this amount of wrinkled fabric (why?)

sia

Madde Ziegler and Sia in Giorgio Armani
Best Dressed Pick

The Grammys are full of weird moments and over-the-top shenanigans…and almost always just for the sake of being out there and it doesn’t accomplish anything. THIS accomplishes everything. It’s got this fabulous Sonia Rykiel meets Marc Jacobs beauty moment with a simple and chic Armani look. From Sia’s cape to Maddie’s shoes, I am ALL about this.

rita ora

Rita Ora in custom Prada

At first glance, I’m head-over-Prada-heels for this. It has that wow factor, it fits perfectly (as it should when it’s custom) and the hair and makeup is fantastic (even coming from me, who is never a fan of heavy eye makeup). When you look at close-up photos, though, this material actually looks super cheap. Like that stretchy mesh with sequins attached? Now this is Prada and I doubt that’s the situation but that’s why I can’t pick this as best dressed. Otherwise, I was almost there!

miley cyrus

Miley Cyrus in Alexandre Vauthier

Miley could have gone super costumey for the Grammys (as it’s the one major red carpet event where people tend to do so) but I’m glad she chose something that’s “mature” for her but still has that Miley edge that makes her…her.

kat graham

Kat Graham in Yanina

This is fabric, not a dress. There is a difference.

madonna

Madonna in custom Givenchy

I know you’re Madonna and you can “do no wrong” but this is so wrong.

kim kardashian

Kim Kardashian in Jean Paul Gaultier Couture

Surprise surprise…Kim’s kleavage makes an appearance. But seriously, I wanted to like this when I first saw her on the red carpet (and began to cringe once Ryan asked Kanye a question because you’re never going to get a straight answer from him). This dress must weigh 20 lbs and it looks like it took forever to make, so I appreciate the dress on its own. Yes, it’s sparkly but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s meant for the Grammys. This dress in an editorial would be stunning but on the red carpet, especially on someone as petite as Kim, is just overwhelming. Side note, as much as I hate to admit it…doesn’t she seem less annoying with that new hair kut?

haim

Este Haim in Chloe, Danielle and Alana Haim in Stella McCartney
Best Dressed Pick (Danielle)

These girls all just have that effortless cool factor that every fashion girl envies. They all look amazing BUT Danielle in that white Stella McCartney suit…SO MUCH YES.

pharrell

Helen Lasichanh and Pharrell Williams in Adidas

It’s pretty cool to see Adidas on the red carpet, even if it’s a “shameless” plug for Pharrell’s Adidas collection. The jumpsuit is cool but just a bit tight in the mid-section. Pharrell looks kind of awesome and in a way I didn’t expect. If you saw this on the red carpet, you probably noticed his shorts suit (I love to say shorts suit) was grey and I thought it looked cool (but literally only something Pharrell could wear and no one else). He mentioned in his interview that the material of this outfit turns white in photos and he was right…it’s like an outfit change without the effort, and I dig it.

nicki minaj

Nicki Minaj in Tom Ford

Like I mentioned in my last post (re: Lady Gaga), I’m not into the whole boobs in my face thing but you have to admit, she looks damn good. My big question of the night is — did Tom Ford dress more than one girl (he typically dresses one per red carpet and both Nicki and Jennifer Hudson wore TF last night) OR was this a Hayden Panettiere at the Golden Globes situation and someone actually purchased their Tom Ford dress?

katy perry

Katy Perry in Zuhair Murad Couture

Although the purple hair thing has been played, I still love it and it looks incredible on her. Other than that, the dress is just okay, the earrings are a bit much and the shoes are a disappointment. Expected a lot more from her. But at least we got some cool hair out of it.

Well, that’s all folks. Until the Oscars! And don’t forget to share your best and worst dressed (or anyone who you’re just dying to discuss your feelings about…as long as they’re famous) in the comments.
