Strap In For Summer

If you’ve been on any fashion news website today, you know that Taylor Swift recently wore a harness. And now, it seems like people won’t shut up about it. So I decided to get on board with this, but I promise I didn’t dedicate today’s post to Taylor Swift (because I already did that…)

When it comes to accessories, we typically think of bags, shoes, hats, perhaps a scarf…but do you ever think to accessorize with a harness? We already know that Taylor Swift clearly did, but it’s not like this is the first time we’ve seen this not so average accessory.

Although I don’t own a harness myself [YET] I’ve been fascinated by them since Zana Bayne came on the scene about five years ago. She’s technically a leather accessories designer but she specializes in harnesses…and really damn cool ones. I realize they can be sexual (which I’m sure they’ve resurfaced as of late due to 50 Shades of Grey, which I’ve never seen or read but I assume there’s a harness not-for-fashion-reasons in there somewhere) but they can also be a unique way to accessorize. Sort of like a body chain but to the next level.

If you want to avoid looking like a dominatrix, another way to go about a harness is to wear it like people have been wearing body chains — and just expose a little underneath a shirt or dress. Like Anja Rubik here…

You can also opt for a non-leather style, which my good friend Azeeza does oh so well.

I love the look of her harnesses with a simple tank or tee. They’re such a statement on their own so you don’t need much else to complete the outfit.

Although I guess that goes for any harness, as that’s probably your best bet for rocking the accessory without looking like you forgot your whips and chains at home. Catch my drift?

Overall, I dig the harness. It just needs to be styled in a way that looks like a fashion accessory and not a bedroom accessory. Zana Bayne and Azeeza are my personal favorites when it comes to this category. There’s not a ton of designers doing harnesses BUT I found the best ones you can get on the Internet (in every price range) so you can strap for summer. But first…would you wear a harness as a fashion statement? Do you have any favorites below? Or looks featured here today? How would you wear one?

  1. Hmm.. Still not sure how I personally feel about the harness because I immediately think of sled dogs. I must admit that some of these women really make it a great look, but confidence does go a long way. Eye opening article, thanks for posting!

  2. I would definitely rock the harness! As a girl obsessed with statement necklaces, the ones that look like giant body chains are dope. I also like pairing a leather one with a basic white tee. Its real cute and totally unexpected.
