NYFW SS15

New York Fashion Week Spring 2015 is officially over, yet fashion month has just begun. Because there’s already so much to take in, I thought I’d make it pretty easy for you. Here’s a look at some of the top collections, stand-out moments and breaking fashion news that happened at NYFW. Remember that’s just New York, we still got three more cities to go…

Being stylish is SO exhausting, I know.

Let’s see…where to begin? Well here’s some exciting news — two designers announced they’re launching shoes (check out THOSE rhymes).

prabal gurung shoes

Prabal Gurung has has collaborated with shoe designers like Casadei and Nicholas Kirkwood in the past, but now he’s ready to do his own thing when it comes to footwear. And as one of my favorite designers, I couldn’t be more thrilled about this.

Clover Canyon also announced their shoe debut for Spring 2015. This designer is all about prints, which we don’t see all too often in shoes. So this will be a cool way to get their colorful patterns onto our feet…but thanks to fashion’s oh-so-perfect timing, we’ll just have to wait another five to six months to get our hands on these babies.

In other fashion news, Marc Jacobs did something pretty spectacular for SS15. And it wasn’t just about the Marc army…

He actually sent all of his models down the runway MAKEUP FREE. Not like makeup that doesn’t look like you’re wearing any makeup…actually no makeup. Like a true #nomakeup selfie.

In fashion fails news. Ralph Lauren is trying to make Polo happen so naturally a 4D-holographic runway show in Central Park attended by celebs like Kendall Jenner, Ciara, Ben Stiller, and pretty much every major runway model you can think of was in order.

According to reviews though, although it sounded like a cool and unique concept, it just didn’t give the wow factor everyone was expecting.

Plus it’s Polo, and no one wants to relive 2004. At least I don’t.

Someone who did a unique concept and got it right? Opening Ceremony, that’s who.

opening ceremony play

This was a highly anticipated show at NYFW, as it was an actual SHOW. Not a runway show, like a play. Only in the fashion world does it make sense to respond to “what shows are you seeing?” by saying “Altuzarra. Suno. Hopefully I can make it to Wang.” What, were you expecting me to say Rent?

The one-act play, written by Spike Jonze and Jonah Hill, basically mocked fashion week and showed what models go through, all with a comedic- twist, of course. Elle Fanning played a newbie model while Dree Hemmingway played the insecure model and even Karlie Kloss made her acting debut, although she was just playing herself.

Another debut? Miley Cyrus makes “art” for Jeremy Scott.

If anyone is going to be on board this sort of crafting, it’s going to be Jeremy Scott. However, these pieces just look like Miley went to Michaels, bought everything colorful in the store, and glued it all together.

That, my friends, is FASHUN.

And now for some of my favorite collections. If you don’t know Delpozo, now you do. A designer I’ve had my eye on the last few seasons, I’m especially feeling this SS15 collection. Everything just looks so perfectly placed, which isn’t easy to do when you’re dealing with such sculptural silhouettes.

It doesn’t hurt either that at a glance without my contacts, the embellishments on the dress to the left sort-of resemble pizza. Therefore I am 100% on board with this collection (and if you are too, you can pre-order it now). Is it the most practical? Absolutely not, but it’s really fun to look at.

Now moving in the complete opposite direction…

the row

The definition of utilitarian and minimalist — The Row. My style has always been more Delpozo — funky, out there, sometimes doesn’t make sense. As I grow up (as much as I hate to admit it), I’m starting to tone things down and really appreciate these minimalist styles. I’ve never felt so connected to any collection by The Row as I do for this one. I love the simplicity and the monochromatic separates. The perfect way to do simple without being boring (or even worse…basic).

The SS15 collection also made me want a new dress (which never happens), even a strapless one (which is unheard of). Mary-Kate and Ashley can just do that to a girl.

And for my last favorite collection, give a [fake] gasp of surprise for Proenza Schouler (you knew this was coming).

They always find such innovative ways to use leather (whether it’s laser-cut, printed, crochet, etc.) and this collection was no exception. I especially appreciated the whole split personality thing they did with many garments. It’s a little crazy but I’m not hating it. And you know what else I’m not hating? THE BAGS.

Who is this beauty? I guess we’ll find out in six months when it’s in stores (unless Moda Operandi hits us with some Proenza in the near future).

And I’m hoping this one actually goes into production because it was one BAD ASS bag (it seems like all of my favorite runway pieces never make it to stores — fingers crossed for this one!)

Lastly, it’s not a fashion week post without a few trends, right? It seems like everyone is doing stripes for spring. It’s not a groundbreaking trend but one that’s pretty easy to incorporate into your wardrobe. Here’s a few ideas from Altuzarra, Thakoon and Tibi.

If you’re looking for a more unconventional trend, find garments with loose straps attached (seen at Rag & Bone, Dion Lee and MM6) and just run with it (no really, run…the straps would look kind of cool following behind you — but be sure to capture it on Instagram, otherwise it never happened)

See, isn’t fashion week exhausting? And I wasn’t even there.

Do you have any favorite moments from NYFW? Stand-out collections you just won’t be able to live without?
