Red Carpet Fashion: Best Dressed at the 2010 Golden Globes

Everyone has their own opinion of who was best and worst dressed of the night. Although there were some dresses that were not my favorite, I would rather write about my favorites…and I want to hear what you think too!

Here are my picks for the best dressed of the night at the 2010 Golden Globes. Note, this is in no particular order.

Kate Hudson in Marchesa:

It’s difficult to ever put a Marchesa gown on the worst dressed list. The color is simply white but the structure slightly complex with a sculptured look, like most Marchesa gowns. Kate totally rocked it (and she was styled by Rachel Zoe) which is why she made my best dressed list.

Zoe Saldana in Louis Vuitton:

People either loved this dress or they hated it. I, for one, am a lover of this Louis Vuitton masterpiece. I think the color looks great on her skin tone and she can actually pull off a strapless dress with her body type, unlike a few Golden Globes attendees that will remain nameless. [Girls, if your boobs are bigger than a D, please don’t wear strapless things. Thank you.] Anyways, I love the ruffles and textures of this amazing Louis Vuitton gown, which is why it makes my best dressed list.

Jennifer Garner in Atelier Versace:

My jaw dropped when I saw Jennifer Garner walk down the red carpet. This dress is absolutely stunning. It fits her perfectly and she looks gorgeous wearing it. I love the asymmetry in the front and I wish I had a picture of the back because it was my favorite part of the dress. I can’t find one online so if anyone does find a picture of the back of this fabulous dress, please let me know. I love Jen Garner, she’s one of Rachel Zoe’s clients, and she totally rocked this Atelier Versace gown…this is why she’s on my best dressed list.

Olivia Wilde in Gucci:

Another jaw-dropping gown. Olivia Wilde is already gorgeous with her dark hair and piercing blue eyes, but throw on this sparkling Gucci dress with a plunging neckline and you have perfection. The best part about this dress is that after the Golden Globes, she is auctioning it off and all of the money will go directly to helping Haiti. Stunning dress, beautiful woman, and a philanthropist? This is why Olivia wilde made my best dressed list.

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta:

Let’s just say I’m a little biased because Glee is one of the greatest shows on television 🙂 but Lea Michele really took a risk by wearing this Cinderella-like gown and she totally rocked it. It wasn’t too over the top because it was all black, the sweetheart necklace corset top fit her perfectly, and the feather-like bottom detail is so beautiful. I love anything Oscar de la Renta does, I think Lea Michele is great, and Glee is awesome…which is why Lea made my best dressed list.

So ladies [and gentlemen if you read this], what do you think? Do you agree with my picks? Who were your favorites? Least favorites? I want to know. Leave me your twitter name and I will retweet your responses!

Colors. Patterns. Missoni.

I have always loved Missoni. The beautiful colors and their array of prints intrigue me. Missoni designs are typically an assortment of colors, patterns and fabrics. What fascinates me the most is that Missoni can pull off their signature design in any way, shape or form. Not only to they produce fabulous dresses, tops and bathing suits but they have shoes, accessories and even and Home line. Missoni pillows anyone? How fabulous!

Like many designers these days, Missoni has a line for “less” called M Missoni. Unfortunately, if you are price-sensitive, these pieces are still quite expensive. As many designer pieces, it’s an investment. Fortunately, no matter what the trends are, Missoni pieces are always in style. So it’s definitely worth the splurge!

Here are some of my favorite pieces by Missoni:

Top Row (left to right): Giacomo Hooded Bathrobe ($206 at amara.co.uk), Knit Tunic ($1,455 at net-a-porter.com), Crochet-Knit Lurex Shawl ($665 at net-a-porter.com), Cruzco Reversible Bikini ($405 at net-a-porter.com)

Bottom Row (left to right): Multicolor Knit Long Scarf ($165 at forzieri.com), Loose-Knit Kaftan ($937 at theoutnet.com), Silk-blend Crochet Beanie ($135 at net-a-porter.com), Pink & Gold Flats ($390 at piperlime.gap.com)

I have to say…as much as I love of all of these pieces, the robe is my absolute favorite. I think it’s just fabulous! Who wouldn’t love to lounge around in that all day?

The Missoni company has been in the family for years. Margherita Missoni is even a close friend of the one and only…Rachel Zoe! [obviously had to throw in a Rachel Zoe shoutout] For Missoni’s spring campaign, they decided to show off their fabulous pieces…on themselves. The Missoni family, in Missoni, looking like one big happy family.

Preen Spring 2010 RTW–Get the look

Preen is a line I heard about within the past year. Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi launched Preen more than 10 years ago in London but they did not become recognized internationally until more recently. I am kind of obsessed with Preen’s Spring 2010 RTW because it had a little bit of everything without going over the top. So, I decided to blog about it 🙂

Here are some of my favorites from Preen Spring 2010 RTW:

There was a lot of grey, which not everyone may like but I loved how the dull color was paired with the neon yellow accents. Other theme colors of the show included white, black, nude, and a light-rose-colored pink. These pieces were mostly flowy and sheer with various texture accents which I thought was amazing. However, there are some tighter dresses throughout the collection that I loved. Lots of asymmetry and straps…fabulous!

Although most of these pieces were simple in color, their textures and structure were quite complex which I absolutely loved.

Here are some looks I chose based off of the Preen runway show:

Top Row (left to right): Forever Unique Stud Detail Asymmetric Dress ($68 at asos.com), McQ Rope Print Silk Bouble Dress  ($373 at zappos.com), Sheer Cowl Dress ($92 at lagarconne.com), Lanvin Sandals ($368 at barneys.com)

Bottom Row (left to right): Shirred Cross Back Formal Dress ($60 at gojane.com), Vamp Citrine Shoes ($58 at next.co.uk), Juicy Couture Drop Shoulder Dress ($198 at shopbop.com), Sheer Cowl Boatneck T ($85 at lagarconne.com)

So, what do you think? Do you like the Preen Spring 2010 collection? Do you like the trends they’re showing? I want to hear from you!

Makeup Essentials

This differs for everyone. Some people can’t live without foundation, others (like Snooki from the Jersey Shore) cannot live without bronzer…lots of bronzer. This all depends on your skintype, how you want to look and what you feel most comfortable in. However, there are certain cosmetics that every girl always should have.

First and foremost, a brightener will change your life. I used to use concealer under my eyes for years and I never understood why you could still see my circles. I think concealer is great for a breakout here and there (remember, too much caked on draws more attention!) but a brightener or corrector is the way to go. I’ve used the corrector pens by T. LeClerc and Dior which were good but I am currently using the Bobbi Brown Corrector (in Bisque) and it has made a huge difference.

**Note: Keep in mind you should be using an undereye cream  too! You can cover things up all you want but isn’t easier to prevent them? I use NARS Nourishing Eye Cream which is amazing. Depending on what you’re looking for in an eye cream (fix dark circles, reduce puffiness, decrease wrinkles, etc.) you should check out your favorite brands or your local SephoraBlue Mercury or C.O. Bigelow.

When people ask, “what’s the one product you cannot live without?” my response has been (and will always be) MASCARA.  I think it truly makes all the difference. Curled and thick lashes make your face look more lively and awake which is always a plus. Before applying mascara, always use an eyelash curler. It not only looks better once the mascara is applied but it makes applying the mascara much easier and it looks more smooth. Curling the lashes can only help you. Not hurt you. Trust me. Currently, I use two mascaras. I first apply a coat of CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara for the volume then a coat of NARS Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara for the length. I personally don’t mind taking that extra step and it’s worked better than any single mascara I’ve used in the past (and I’ve used a lot).

**Note: Using mascara can dry or damage your lashes. To prevent this, I use Shu Uemura Lash Repair It strengthens and conditions lashes to prevent future damage. It can also be used as a primer for mascara.

My last essential is blush. This is another item that really brightens your face all around and a little goes a long way. I currently own two different blushes and which one I use depends on my mood or the occasion. I have a matte blush and a shimmery blush. The shimmery blush is  BareMinerals Blush in Vintage Peach. My other blush isn’t completely matte but it’s definitely less shimmery than the BareMinerals one. It’s T. LeClerc Powder Blush in Brun Rosé . I’ve used this one for much longer and it’s my go-to blush for everyday…it’s never done me wrong!

I hope you can see the method to my madness…of makeup essentials. I believe a brightener or corrector, mascara and blush are essential because of what they do. Individually, they can transform your look to make you seem more lively and awake. Altogether, they can do wonders. If you don’t get at least 7 hours of sleep every night, it can negatively affect the way your skin looks. These three simple cosmetics can help you “fake it” and can make you look fabulous everyday.

Keep in mind, a great skincare routine is important in the success of your skin. See some of my favorite skincare picks from my NARS post.

So, what do you think? What are your makeup necessities? Have you tried any of the cosmetics mentioned? If so, do you like them? If not, what do you use? I always love to hear from you!
