Remember when Cady Heron (AKA Lindsay Lohan at her prime) said, “In Girl World, Halloween is the one day a year when a girl can dress up like a total slut and no other girls can say anything else about it”? Well in celebrity world, there’s a few more days a year…because we have MUSIC AWARDS SHOWS. So let’s see who wore what at the AMAs this year…shall we?
Gigi Hadid in Bao Tranchi
Typically, I prefer red carpet looks that leave at least a little mystery but considering her occupation (model) and the event (American Music Awards) it actually works. The chic hair and makeup definitely help! If we had a smoky eye and / or bold lip, I’d have some very different comments…
Paula Abdul
You get to a certain point in your life and you have to ask yourself…am I too old for this? Paula either skipped right past that or asked the question and answered with IDGAF.
Kylie Jenner in Bryan Hearns
At least now I know what an 18 year old dominatrix would look like.
Justin Bieber
I don’t typically comment on men but if outfits speak louder than words, this one says I’M AN ASSHOLE.
Jennifer Lopez in Michael Cinco
Pink! Sparkles! Top knots! Every blogger’s dream (all we need is a good wall).
Wiz Khalifa
Is it weird I want to wear this exact outfit?
Zendaya in Emanuel Ungaro
And Zendaya’s all like Barbie’s got nothing on me!
Selena Gomez in Givenchy
At first, I hated this (as it’s shiny and red…my worst nightmare) but the more I look at it, I’m into the crazy detail along the side. Then I saw a back shot and I was like DAYUM GIRL (although that doesn’t mean I suddenly love the dress). It’s one of those pieces that I appreciate because of the work that clearly went into it… but it’s sort of ugly regardless. Also, long flat ironed hair will forever remind me of high school and I just don’t want to go back to that era of Juicy tracksuits.
Ciara in Reem Acra
She IS Ciara the great so she can rarely do wrong and although not necessarily wrong, we’ve just seen her in a look like this before (basically the nude version at the 2013 VMAs).
Carrie Underwood in Elie Madi
I am all for a cape on the red carpet, but only when it gives a cool effortless vibe (re: Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford at the 2012 Oscars). THIS is just trying too hard. Basically…the basic bitch version of cape dressing on the red carpet.
Ellie Goulding in Alexandre Vauthier Couture
I’m sure this looks more high end in person but until I get my own red carpet invites, I’ll just have to judge based on the photos…and this photo says clearance rack at Bebe.
Demi Lovato in Lorena Sarbu
Re: Paula Abdul comments…but reversed.
Julianne Hough in Naeem Khan
I appreciate the direction of a printed dress as opposed to a sparkly number that everyone goes for at the AMAs BUT the super high double slit is just too much with the print (would be much better with just one side slit). On top of that, the shoes are terrible, as is the hair and makeup…and the earrings. So I guess I just kind of like my version of this dress…and that’s it.
Nina Dobrev Zuhair Murad
If you’re planning on hitting up that spring gala later (even though it’s November) then YES.
Kendall Jenner in Oriett Domenech
THIS is how you show skin and look badass at the same time (and yet another example of where the back makes everything). And if you’ve ever wondered if you should get bangs…the answer is YES (but only if it can look like this).
Hailee Steinfeld in Zuhair Murad
Good thing there’s a lot going on in this little romper, otherwise there would be a whole lotta camel toe happening. I like that she didn’t go for a dress like everyone else but she typically looks so cool and fashion-forward…this is just a tight sparkly romper with stripper heels and way too much eye makeup. I KNOW YOU CAN DO BETTER HAILEE…WE ALL DO.
Gwen Stefani in Yousef Al-Jasmi
Bat wings and a Bump-It? Really, Gwen?
Alicia Silverstone in Christian Siriano
Cher’s digital closet catalogue must have had a malfunction last night…
Danica McKellar
WINNIE COOPER…WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!
Chloe Grace Moretz in Saint Laurent
Swap out the stilettos with some black chunky Steve Madden slides and you would’ve seen me in this exact outfit circa 2001 (every girl had her go-to bar / bat mitzvah look…this was basically mine…although definitely not Saint Laurent). The irony here is that Chloe would have been four at the time, so although this is technically a bit outdated…it actually doesn’t bother me. Kind of a fun take on the LBD, right?

Did you guys watch the AMAs this year? What did you think of the show? But more importantly…thoughts on the red carpet? Best dressed? Worst dressed?
