All caught up with part one of the CFDA Awards red carpet? Good. Great. Grand. Let’s move along to part two.
Liya Kebede in Joseph Altuzarra, pictured with the designer
Best Dressed Pick
I’m so over those lace up heels (thanks blogosphere!) BUT regardless…she was still one of my best dressed of the night. Altuzarra knows how to make a killer dress, and Liya knows how to WERK them.
Natasha Poly in Michael Kors
Typically I’m not down for a deep V and a high slight (I think you need to choose one over the other) but if the dress didn’t have that drape / cape element, I would be down with it. But as is, it’s just too many elements fighting each other (which is odd for a dress with no beading or embellishments whatsoever). Not my favorite.
Katie Holmes in Ralph Lauren
Wah Wah…
Kim Kardashian in Proenza Schouler
It’s difficult for me to accept Kim Kardashian and Proenza Schouler in the same sentence BUT I will for the sake of this awards show. I absolutely love this dress. The grommet detail is unreal. I can’t tell if it’s the undergarments or the dress itself but it looks like she can’t breathe…and that is one of my fashion don’ts. If you can’t breathe in it, don’t wear it. I actually do appreciate the effort here but it’s one of those great dress, wrong girl moments we see all too often.
Karlie Kloss in Diane von Furstenberg
I don’t understand this dress because at first glance, with the silhouette and the pattern, this is something I’d see on an older, more mature woman. But of course you have that deep V that gives it a “youthful touch” if you will. But they make no sense together. This dress shouldn’t have a deep V. It just shouldn’t! I don’t know why I feel this way but I’ve made my point so let’s move on.
Lily Aldridge in Thakoon
Best Dressed Pick
YES, LILY. YES!
Joan Smalls in Calvin Klein
Not a fan of the dress. Adore the Jennifer Fisher (ear game is STRONG).
Jenna Lyons
Perfectly Jenna Lyons. Just perfect.
Anna Ewers in Alexander Wang, pictured with the designer
Let me begin by telling you I loathe shoes like this. They’re just awful. BUT if this dress and shoe combination were to show up in some edgy spread in an indie magazine (or Vogue I guess, if they wanted to go that route) then I would be all about it. For the CFDA Awards, though? I’m not down with this. Also referring back to that can’t breathe situation…Anna’s poor boobs. Someone save them…they’re suffocating!
Gigi Hadid in Michael Kors
Best Dressed Pick
Now I want a shiny gold jumpsuit…
Alek Wek
Pockets? Prints? SOLD!
Grimes in Proenza Schouler
Between Liya Kebede at Cannes, Kim and now Grimes…I am thrilled to see Proenza Fall ’15 making an appearance at such events. In this case, due to the length of the dress, it just has to be on a super tall girl. I like where she tried to go, I just don’t think she got there.
Harley Viera-Newton in Cynthia Rowley
Not her best.
Julianna Margulies in Michael Kors
It’s already risqué to show your undergarments on the red carpet, but there’s a certain age where it’s just not cute anymore. Plus the fact that her underwear seems to be low rise (whenever you rock this trend, you have to at least cover up to the belly button), it actually looks like a mistake. Like does she know this dress is see through? At least she’s wearing some Eva Fehren jewels to make up for it.
Katharine McPhee in a Paul Ka top + skirt and Amanda Wakeley vest
Hate the shoes. Love the long vest. This would have looked better with pants, rather than a skirt. Unless you’re Jenna Lyons, please don’t wear glasses just for the sake of wearing glasses on the red carpet.
Jemima Kirke in Rosie Assoulin
I like the idea of someone with a lot of tattoos wearing a more feminine look (Rihanna does this so well…by the way where the hell was she last night?) The juxtaposition always gets me. It’s probably the fact that this is red and you know how I feel about the color. I’m not in love with this, but I don’t hate it either…
Juliette Lewis in Christian Siriano, pictured with the designer
Oh I didn’t realize it was 1999…
January Jones in J. Mendel
You know I love a good jumpsuit, but as we see often with J. Mendel looks, there’s too many elements (remember Emmy Rossum at last year’s CFDA Awards?) BUT adding a necklace like that doesn’t exactly help the “too many elements” situation. It’s not terrible but we all know she can do better.
The Fat Jewish
KILLIN’ IT. And I’ll leave you with that.
