We still have a lot to discuss from last night’s Emmys red carpet so let’s not waste any time. Get caught up with part one and let’s move right along to part two.
Taylor Schilling in Stella McCartney
I was on my way to giving this a best dressed pick because I love this silhouette, the neckline is unique (not your average one shoulder gown), the back is beautiful, and the color is bold but she pulls it off well. THEN I noticed the peek of yellow coming from underneath. SHE IS WEARING YELLOW SHOES…WITH A YELLOW DRESS. To quote a basic bitch, I can’t even…
Amy Poehler in Michael Kors
Yet another round of cut outs from last night, this version wasn’t my favorite. I love Amy but it looks like she’s trying too hard to not be a regular mom but a cool mom if you know what I mean. The dress would be more flattering if the cut-outs were placed lower (at the true waist) as here they’re up by her ribs which makes her appear wide / straight down. Also hate all those bracelets…WHY SO MANY BRACELETS AMY?!
Tatiana Maslany in Bouchra Jarrar Couture
100% down for a woman in a suit on the red carpet BUT the fit has to be spot-on…and this just doesn’t cut it (also, hate the shoes).
Emma Roberts in custom Jenny Packham
The texture of this dress looks super cool and although I don’t know much about her new show Scream Queens, it seems like something her character would be into…so it’s sort of perfect. Between her hair color and the hue of the dress, it washes her out a bit BUT she looks gorgeous regardless.
Julie Bowen in George Chakra
Sort of rocking the off-the-shoulder trend. And I see where this neckline is going but I don’t think it got anywhere.
Zoe Kazan in Miu Miu
Candy cane on drugs.
Padma Lakshmi Romona Keveza
After almost completing yet another season of Top Chef, wouldn’t you want to wear something more…forgiving? She doesn’t look comfortable in this at all…and it ruins the entire vibe.
Nazanin Boniadi in Stephane Rolland
What??
Laverne Cox in Calvin Klein Collection
The color. The silhouette. The everything. ?
Jane Krakowski in Bibhu Mohapatra
No, Jane. Just no.
Julianne Hough in Marchesa
A bad Dancing With The Stars costume with equally as bad makeup.
Lady Gaga in Brandon Maxwell
I mentioned last week that Brandon Maxwell (Lady Gaga’s stylist) debuted his first collection at NYFW. It was the total opposite of everything we think of when we think of Lady Gaga but it’s a refreshing surprise to see her in something so toned down and minimal.
Kiernan Shipka in Dior Couture
I’m so torn about this as I adore her and live for a dress-with-pants look. I feel similar to this as I do towards January Jones in Ulyana Sergeenko — I don’t like it on its own but there’s just something about the way Kiernan wears such fashion pieces that makes me like it no matter what. The dress portion is a little Belle from Beauty at the Beast but the pants make it a little less Disney princess. I also appreciate the fact that she wore an older couture collection on the red carpet (Fall 2012 to be exact).
Taraji P. Henson in custom Alexander Wang
It has the perfect amount of elements for being an interesting black dress without having too many competing components. The cut out, the chain straps and the texture all combined are really fresh and cool. She knows she looks good and now I’m thinking I need to start watching Empire.
Sarah Paulson in custom Prabal Gurung
I wasn’t kidding when I said off-the-shoulder was happening in a BIG way last night. I’m a huge fan of black and navy and the way this is constructed just looks like liquid amazingness on her. Not loving the hair but otherwise I give it an A.
Uzo Aduba in Jonathan Cohen

Sofia Vergara in St. John
SHOCKING.
Naomi Watts in Dior Couture
It’s pretty amazing to me this Dior couture collection showed over three years ago yet it’s showing up twice on the Emmys red carpet this year. Yes, Naomi is yet another celeb rocking Dior Fall 2012 couture last night. AND I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT…except the hair / makeup. Always down for an undone look but this is a little too undone, even for me.
Laura Prepon in Christian Siriano
Wannabe McQueen.
Amy Schumer in Zac Posen
Cue Trainwreck pun here. But seriously…
This deep teal seems to be the new “it” color on the red carpet, and I’m not hating it. BUT what I am hating is anything strapless (always). Amy would actually look amazing in one of those off-the-shoulder gowns everyone was wearing. And like I said, I’m down for messy hair but when done strategically. This doesn’t seem so strategic. But I can’t leave without saying…I LOVE YOU, AMY.
Joanna Newsom in Delpozo
This is such a statement dress and it takes a very specific girl to wear it (especially outside of an editorial setting) and Joanna just isn’t that girl. Risk is MUCH appreciated though (hair style is not).
Kerry Washington in Marc Jacobs
Best Dressed Pick
She’s back! She was always one to watch on the red carpet yet most of her looks have fallen flat in the last year or so. But after wearing Marc Jacobs Spring ’16 just three days after it walked the runway (and wearing it WELL) proves she is ready to rock the red carpet once again. The details are just incredible and THIS is how you do the Emmys.

So that’s all, friends. To recap I’d have to say my top two of the night were Jaimie Alexander in Armani Privé and Kerry Washington in Marc Jacobs. Other honorable mentions — Christina Hendricks (that dress is pretty spectacular), Sarah Hyland (finally!), January Jones (even with the mermaid-Madonna reference), Taraji P. Henson (custom Wang for the win), Kiernan Shipka (because…dress with pants) and Laverne Cox (fit matters).
Don’t forget to share your best / worst dressed picks in the comments!
