All caught up with part 1 of that Golden Globes red carpet goodness? Fantastic. Let’s move along to part 2.
Reese Witherspoon in Calvin Klein
You know when you ask someone about someone else and the first thing they say is “well, he’s/she’s nice,” you know you’re doomed? It’s sort of how I feel about this dress. It’s nice. But that’s all there is to it.
Naomi Watts in Gucci
This has already made numerous best dressed lists so if you agree, then you’re not going to like what I have to say. It’s not like this is terrible but it’s going to take a very specific look for me to love a solid bright yellow dress (and there were three on the red carpet last night…wasn’t a fan of any). Between such a bold color and an equally as bold Bulgari necklace (although bold in a different way), it’s all up in my grill and I need some space.
Lana Del Rey
And the award for most literal interpretation of a 1960s mermaid goes to….
Kate Mara in Miu Miu
The only redeeming quality about this look is that the dress fits her nicely. But the hair? Not good. The belt? Looks like it belongs on a cartoon.
Jessica Chastain in Atelier Versace
Probably the most tasteful Versace we saw on the red carpet last night, she looks great but falls somewhere in that middle ground. Not best dressed. Not worst dressed. She goes for that Hollywood siren look quite often (this is a perfect example) so it would be nice to see a different angle from her at the next major red carpet event.
Jennifer Aniston in Saint Laurent
She always goes very minimalist for the red carpet so this is a nice balance of still looking like herself but stepping it up a bit. The cummerbund belt is a really cool idea, although some photos I saw it looks like it’s lifting her boobs up a little too much (like in a way where it looks like she can’t breathe) but in this image, it’s perfect. Wouldn’t have picked drop earrings with a sequin halter neckline but overall, it’s pretty great.
Allison Williams in Armani Prive
I’m still so torn about this, mostly because you know I hate red dresses. The beauty aspect of this is very “old Hollywood glamour” which we see a lot on the red carpet…and it works here. The more I look at this, the more it grows on me. Although I’m still not 100% sold, I’m getting there.
Diane Kruger in Emilia Wickstead
When I first saw her on the red carpet, I thought gorgeous, but she’s done better. Now I keep staring and this and realize I really appreciate the fit and the fabric (the hair and makeup is pretty killer too). It’s also cool to see designers other than the usual suspects (Armani, Versace, Dior, etc.) on the red carpet.
Anna Kendrick in Monique Lhuillier
Girl never seems to get it right.
Chrissy Teigen in Zuhair Murad
Pretty, but this sort of beaded / sheer Zuhair Murad dress has been DONE and DONE.
Claire Danes in Valentino
Like Lupita’s Giambattista Valli number, this Valentino dress is more suited for editorial. Both beautiful dresses with incredible design elements, but they just look wrong for a red carpet event. And as much as I hated on Claire for the fit of this dress, looks like that’s just how it was meant to be.
Emily Blunt in Michael Kors
SHE doesn’t even like being in this dress.
Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad
Dear JLo…WE GET IT.
Jenna Dewan Tatum in Carolina Herrera
Of the three yellow gowns last night (the other two being Leslie Mann in Kaufmanfranco and Naomi Watts in Gucci), this was the best of the bunch…although a yellow gown still is not my thing. This was the only acceptable one as I think it’s a shade of yellow that’s easier on the eyes. It’s not the most exciting silhouette but it works. And I have to say that Jenna probably had some of my favorite makeup of the night. Like whoa.
Emma Stone in Lanvin
Best Dressed Pick
If I could only pick one best dressed for the night, it would be Emma Stone. You know I love a jumpsuit on the red carpet and this is the perfect elegant meets edgy meets AWESOME style. The detail on the bodice is ridiculous and that belt / train situation is something you either love or you hate…and I adore it.
Amy Adams in Versace
One shoulder? Ruching? Dare I ask if those are dyed-to-match shoes underneath? Screams, always a bridesmaid never a bride.
Amal Clooney in Dior Couture
People have mixed reviews when it comes to this, mostly because of those gloves. If she wore this to the Charles James themed Met Gala last year or some fancy British event for the royals, I’d say this is perfect. But for the Golden Globes? Not so much.
Amy Poehler in Stella McCartney
I want to like this so bad and I appreciate she went for such a bold color on the red carpet. I can’t believe I’m saying this (because it shouldn’t be offensive) but it almost looks a little too casual. At least the way it comes off on camera, the fabric seems to have a jersey effect (plus with the pockets…they have a way of making things quite casual). I’m like 72% sold here…but I do dig that necklace.
Dakota Johnson in Chanel
Hair and makeup looks drab. Dress is a stunner but it’s not meant for this girl.
