Throwback Thursday: 90s Couture

Although the Fall ’15 couture shows wrapped over a week ago, it doesn’t mean we still can’t talk couture. Plus, it’s Thursday and you know what that means…let’s #TBT, ya’ll!

By the way that’s the first and last time I’ve ever used the word “ya’ll!” I have zero Southern blood in me so I shouldn’t even try to pull that off. It was in the heat of the moment because I’m so excited to talk 90 COUTURE. Now there are always lessons we can learn from couture but for most of these, I wouldn’t take them so literally. Just because the 90s resurfaced doesn’t mean you should start over plucking your eyebrows again, right? Right. Okay. Let’s do this.

Dior 1990

Almost has that Christina Ricci in Thakoon at the 2012 Met Ball sort of vibe, no?

Balmain 1991

Before the Kardashians took over…

Givenchy 1991

WWRTD? (What Would Riccardo Tisci Do?) No this. That’s for sure.

Dior 1992

Now we know where Dolce & Gabbana gets it from (also…cue the bodysuit!)

Givenchy 1992

The OG Coachella flower crowns.

Chanel 1992

Doesn’t this sort of look like Anna Wintour (but hardly recognizable because she’s smiling?) Remember when smiling on the runway was a thing? And how fantastic are those boots?

Versace 1992

Naomi: The Ultimate Bridezilla.

Dior 1993

If Full House, Blossom and Family Matters wore couture…

Chanel 1994

Clearly, always killing it in the accessories department.

Chanel 1994

And Cher Horowitz never owned this hat because, why?

Jean Louis Scherrer 1994

Dress with pants, making waves at couture since ’94

Yves Saint Laurent 1994

What life was like with Yves…

Balmain 1994

Sandra Lee would be ALL over this.

Versace 1996

WERQ.

Oscar de la Renta 1997

WE MISS YOU, OSCAR.

Thierry Mugler 1997

Now simply known as MUGLER…remember when Lady Gaga walked the Fall ’11 show then bought the entire collection? ’97 Couture could have totally predicted that…

Carven 1999

Never knew Carven did couture (especially because it’s currently sold at a much lower price point as these other designers) BUT I’m not going to lie, I’d wear this now (in black of course…you know my feelings towards red).

Valentino 1999

This look is so quintessential 90s red carpet yet if you take away the shawl, this could easily be worn on the red carpet today. Oh, fashion. You’re so funny that way!

Versace 1999

Giselle wants you to SPICE UP YOUR LIFE! (and I hope there were some solid platforms paired with this look)

Well that’s all for now friends. I hope you enjoyed this 90s couture throwback and be sure to let me know your favorite looks / general commentary in the [you know where] COMMENTS.
