Swing And A Hit

We all know by now that flares have made a comeback, and it looks like they’re here to stay for a while. But flare denim isn’t the only flare trend on the rise…

Cue: the flare shirt (or swing tops, if you will). It was only a matter of time after peplum had its moment (and thankfully is no longer having one). Although peplum is probably more flattering (it’s fitted in the bust and typically flares out at the waist) I like the idea of swing tops a little more because they’re not as girly (which is more my style). Peplum = swing and a miss. Flare tops = swing and a HIT. Get it?

Now these types of shirts typically flare out above the bust — perfect for those nights where you are most definitely going to eat the whole pizza. We all have our designated eating clothes, right? (Come on…I can’t be the only one!)

I’m down for any wardrobe staple that can encourage me to consume more food, but more importantly, it’s the perfect top to wear this time of year (especially on those super humid days). Barely any material is actually touching your body so you can breathe, let it all hang out and of course…look damn chic.

Most of these tops come in cropped form, so keep that in mind when putting your swing top in motion. Remember, cropped on top = high waisted on the bottom. No exceptions.

Now there’s also a variety when it comes to this specific garment with regards to amount of flare. You can go just a little bit…

Or all the way…

Regardless of what you choose, just think about how comfortable you’re going to be. And isn’t that the best when you can look great and be comfortable? It’s pretty fantastic to have it all…

As you can see, I’m down for a swing top but the question is…are you? Do you currently own one? If so, how do you wear it? If not, are you inspired to go for one this summer? Or are you going to stick with the [boring] straight down silhouettes?
