As Aqua once said “Life in plastic, it’s fantastic!” and I think this is what they meant…
Pretty fantastic, right?
Barbie seems to be happening right now and not in the way we’re used to seeing her. What was once a fun toy we dressed up and created imaginary situations where she was being fabulous with her friends in a pink convertible has come to life…but in ways we couldn’t have even imagined as a 7 year old. Barbie’s all grown up and is now a blogger /”it”girl /famous Instagrammer (she’s been on the social media platform just over a month and already has 360k+ followers). She’s gone to all the best shows at fashion week, hung out with famous editors, and even got her own Karl Lagerfeld doppelgänger (which sold out on Net-a-Porter almost immediately).
But why are we so fascinated with her, as adults, in 2014? Let’s take a look at The Fabulous Life Of Barbie (as said in that British guy’s voice from the VH1 show)
First up, NYFW.
Getting styled by Rachel Zoe…not a bad day.
Attending Peter Pilotto at London Fashion Week…girl is killing it.
Custom mini Moschino while hanging with Jeremy Scott? Don’t mind if she does! She was the muse for the spring collection, after all (which also immediately sold out on Net-a-Porter, but there’s still a decent selection on Selfridges’ site). Okay getting a little jealous now…
Street style snapped at Paris Fashion Week…just a day in the life.
But she’s not just the superficial skinny bitch [with unheard of measurements] you love to hate. Barbie, she’s just like us!
She gets her hair did.
She takes selfies.
She wants you to know what’s in her bag!
She takes pictures of her friends (so her camera roll has a good selfie to friend ratio).
She exercises (although I’m a little disappointed she’s not at SoulCycle).
She shops (I wonder if Jeffrey accepts micro dollars?)
She takes strategic aerial shots of her outfit before she wears it (and officially reaches blogger status).
She even has a style evolution…just like us! Would you all approve of the first outfit you ever Instagrammed? Barbie has come a long way in 34 days. I’m sure Rachel and Jeremy were a huge help.

You can say Barbie has had a pretty good month. Curious to see if her fabulousness continues once Paris Fashion Week comes to an end. Perhaps she’ll wear the most epic Halloween costume we’ve ever seen? Or throw a Thanksgiving feast that would blow our Pinterest minds? What are your thoughts on Barbie’s Instagram?
Side note — I most likely just landed in Munich as this post is being published (my love for beer has finally brought me to Oktoberfest) and I will be out of the country for two weeks. As always, I say I’m going to try to post everyday and I usually do. But if I don’t…try not to hold it against me 😉
