Wonder what was trending in 2014? (besides Birkenstocks and Kendall Jenner) Thankfully we have Google to tell us who and what was popular this year (sorry if you didn’t make the cut…) From most searched (and for cocktails it was the year of the margarita) to trending (Iggy Azalea took that home for music artists…basically a Grammy?).
With 2014 winding down, I thought I’d dig a little deeper into one of the featured categories. Curious to know what the top five beauty questions were this year? You should be. Even better, I HAVE THE ANSWERS.
Well I don’t have all the answers but I’ve experimented with enough beauty products in my life so far to have somewhat of an idea of what works and what doesn’t. But according to Google searches this year, people still have a lot of unanswered questions in this department. Like…
#5: How to clean makeup brushes
This is one I’m totally guilty of not doing as often as I should. In an ideal world, you’d clean them after every use with a daily brush cleaner, then once week / once every other week with a deep cleanser. This also depends on how often you wear makeup and how much — if you cake on a ton of makeup everyday, I would clean those brushes more often but if you like to keep it au natural you can get away with going a little longer between cleanings. It seems like an annoying task but if you’ve been breaking out and you don’t know why, sometimes a good makeup brush cleaning is all you need!
#4: What is BB Cream?
FANTASTIC question. 2014 was definitely the year of the BB…and CC…and DD (it’s like bra sizes but not at all). BB Cream is one of those all-in-one products (a beauty balm if you will) that’s supposed to even skin tone, moisturize, act as a foundation, protect from the sun with sunscreen, etc. They all have different claims but basically it has more benefits than using a tinted moisturizer or foundation. I’ve only tried one myself — Revlon PhotoReady BB Cream — and I use it just about everyday. I never really realized the uneven parts of my skin until I tried something that evens it out and now, I am a BBeliever!
#3: How often should I wash my hair?
I love this question because I’ve never washed my hair everyday. Like ever. People used to think I was nuts and now it’s “cool” (and healthy) to not wash your hair all the time. Using shampoo everyday can strip your hair of the natural oils it needs to stay moisturized and strong (even of your shampoo claims it’s moisturizing and strengthens hair). So if you have thin / fine hair that greases up easily, get with the times and use dry shampoo. It’s a game-changer. Everyone should use it. Wash your hair every other day (or every two if you’re feeling risqué, like myself) and get your spray on between washes. Or if you for some reason are rebelling against dry shampoo and you claim you HAVE to wash your hair everyday…don’t, and wear a hat. It really solves all hair problems. Plus, you look super chic.
#2: How do I get rid of stretch marks?
(haha get it? STRETCH marks?)
Of all the top beauty questions, this is the one I [luckily] have no experience in BUT thanks to [you guessed it] Google, I found some products that people swear by to get rid of those pesky lines. Although there’s nothing you can do to guarantee they won’t happen, using products with vitamin E, intense moisturizers and even retinol can potentially prevent them. Stretch marks occur when your body grows faster than your skin can keep up with, so this is very common with pregnant women. But hey, at least you’re not alone. You’re a special case if you don’t get stretch marks during pregnancy (and I’m sure everyone with at least one kid envies you) but if you happen to have a few, here’s some things you can experiment with.
#1: How to get rid of acne
Oh acne. How much I loathe you (and love you when you come in a pink box). The worst part about acne is that there’s so many different things that cause it, how are you supposed to figure out the root of the problem? Is it because you’re dirty and you don’t wash your face? Does your diet mostly consist of McDonalds and sugar? Do you have a high stress job (like the ones people somehow have on The Bachelor)? The possibilities are endless but if you’re not willing to de-stress your life, change your diet (although it helps…trust me, I’ve been there) there are plenty of remedies you can try to get rid of your pizza face (damn that just ruined pizza for me, although probably not for long…)
