Never have I ever…written about the Billboard Music Awards (until today). I always find it ironic that music and fashion go hand-in-hand yet the music awards shows bring out the tackiest of the red carpet (even the Grammys…which is the “classiest” of said awards shows). HOWEVER, so much went down at the Billboard Music Awards last night (well two major things I know about…as I didn’t actually watch…the weather was too nice to be inside!) that I couldn’t help myself but write about the red carpet today. Celebrity style, a big announcement plus the most highly anticipated music video of 2015…let’s do it.
Taylor Swift in Balmain
It was a big night for Taylor Swift. All those Bad Blood Instagrams finally made sense, as she debuted the star-studded music video. But if we’re talking fashion here, I’m actually surprised this is Balmain (looks very Cushnie Et Ochs, no?) but regardless, I’m always down for a jumpsuit on the red carpet. No complaints about the outfit. What I do have a complaint about is that shag hair cut…
Lily Aldridge in Balmain
Speaking of Bad Blood here’s Lily really embracing her character with that Edie Parker clutch. It’s a cool dress but I’m not freaking out over it. The hair and makeup, though? FLAWLESS.
Rita Ora in Fausto Puglisi
Oh, fashion…you’re always coming up with new ways to show our midriff. That’s really all I have to say about this (besides the fact that if Wet Seal had a prom collection, this would be its best seller).
Mariah Carey in Tom Ford
When Tom Ford chooses to dress ONE girl per red carpet and this is the result? You can’t help but be disappointed.
Kylie Jenner in Balmain
Perfectly Kylie. Perfectly Balmain.
Jennifer Lopez in Charbel Zoe
Yet again…midriff innovation! As I say every time JLo shows up on the red carpet in something sparkly, tacky and / or resembles a naked dress (which is just about every red carpet)…WE GET IT.
Britney Spears in Yousef Al-Jasmi
Yikes.
Hailee Steinfeld in Givenchy
I like (don’t love) what’s going on between the neck and just above the knee…otherwise, I hate it (sorry Hailee…let’s get back to the Prada Spring ’11 days!)
Zendaya in Fausto Puglisi
This girl is so frustrating because she’s gorgeous, she’s talented (I assume…not sure if I’ve ever heard her sing) yet I never understand her red carpet choices. It’s like they’re almost there but they don’t actually get to where they need to be. She’s only been on my best dressed list once…I’d love to see her make another appearance one day.
Iggy Azalea
Not so fancy anymore…
Chrissy Teigen in Balmain, with John Legend
Now THAT’S a jumpsuit.
Jourdan Dunn and Kendall Jenner in Balmain for H&M
Yeah, you read that right. And Kendall Jenner was hands down best dressed of the night (although that doesn’t say much when we’re talking Billboard Music Awards red carpet).
It’s official! No longer will have you decide between rent or very discounted Balmain — on November 5, you’ll be able to wear all the Balmain your little heart desires (although probably not because some crazy ladies will snatch it all up and you’ll have to pay double on eBay). So if it seemed like everyone was wearing Balmain last night…it’s because they were, and this is why. Not sure why Olivier chose this specific event to announce his collaboration with H&M…but if it looks anything like what Kendall and Jourdan are wearing, I’m sold.
And another big thing that happened last night was the premiere of Taylor Swift‘s new video. The fact that Kendrick Lamar is in this song really ups Taylor’s street cred. Although we all know this was just an excuse for her to show off all her famous friends (Gigi, Karlie, Cara, etc.)

So who were your favorites on the red carpet last night? Did you actually watch the Billboard Music Awards? Did I miss out? Will you be buying Balmain x H&M? And what did you think of Taylor’s new video? (not going to lie…the song was on repeat as I was typing this post).

Like you, I did not actually watch last night, but it was fun to read through your selections! I lost it at your comment about the wet seal prom collection. Based on what I’ve seen, it was a pretty mediocre night for fashion. I’m somewhat curious to watch the new TS video, but I’m almost annoyed at this point at her “OMG look how many famous friends I have, but I’m still quirky and down to earth and just like you” attitude. It feels really fake.
