Sneak Peak: Reese Witherspoon on Glamour’s January Cover

Reese Witherspoon in Burberry Prorsum on the cover of the January issue of Glamour.

A sneak peak at the interview with Reese…

On how getting older makes her feel sexier…
“I think as a woman, you get older, you feel more confident in your sexuality. You’re not as intimidated by it, not as embarrassed by it. Sexuality and femininity is an accumulation of age and wisdom and comfort in your own skin. I feel better—so much better now than I ever did in my twenties. I am calmer; I know who I am. And as a result, I feel much sexier.”

On women in Hollywood…
“There’s always going to be somebody younger or sexier. That’s why I like to say, and it’s become my famous line, ‘Funny doesn’t sag.’”

On having more kids…
“I would love to have more kids. Kids are the best part of my day. I don’t wake up to make movies. I wake up to hang out with my family.”

On how her goals have changed since making Legally Blonde
“My ambition has sort of broadened. I’m more interested in literature, art, public policy. And I’m really interested in doing more philanthropic endeavors.”

On her life…
“I’m really, really lucky. I’ve got a lot of love in my life. I’ve got great friends. I have two great kids whom I make pancakes forevery Sunday. I’m very blessed.”

On making romantic comedies…
“I love romantic comedies. I watch them all the time. I love all my fellow female romantic comedy queens, like Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Garner and Katie Heigl. I also think that the questions romantic comedies ask about men and women are universal.”

Marshall Pierce & Company, one of the historical go-to Chicago jewelers since 1928, held a private event earlier this week with Ivanka Trump to debut her fine jewelry collection. Ivanka personally presented her collection to the group of 120 notable guests.

Yesterday, Rihanna visited the Personal Shopping suite at Topshop’s London Oxford Circus flagship. What was she doing there? Not shopping, like you may think. A contest was held over the weekend on Topshop’s blog where fans left comments on why they deserved a styling appointment with Rihanna. Five lucky winners were chosen by Rihanna herself. Each winner received a complimentary styling appointment with Rhianna, and they got to take home the outfits they were styled in. Not a bad prize, huh?

Here are some photos from the event….

What do you think? Did you enter the contest? Would you want to be styled by Rhianna?

My Interview with Nick Verreos

On Saturday (9/25), I attended the Macy’s Fashion Challenge, hosted by Nick Verreos from Project Runway season 2. Thanks to the lovely PR team at Macy’s, I had the pleasure of interviewing Nick. He was the sweetest, most enthusiastic and genuinely happy person I’ve ever met. I did not want to leave the interview…unless it was to go have drinks with Nick…he is a doll! A surprise twist…Peach Carr from this season (8) of Project Runway showed up to say hi and support her friend, Nick. How sweet! She’s just as much of a riot! I had such a blast talking to them both and it was quite a lovely Saturday afternoon.

I had to start off the interview by asking him how he got involved with the Florence program through my alma mater, Miami University. Apparently the head of the Europe program at Miami sent an email to all the contestants from season 2 of Project Runway to see if they were to do any challenges there.  Nick was actually the only one of the contestants to respond to the email. One thing lead to another and Nick ended up doing a 2-day lecture series and tour of Florence “fashion spots” and has been doing this for the past 2 years for Miami students.

——————————

To go along with the styling event at Macy’s that Nick was there for, I had to ask him what his favorite trends for Fall are. He responded, “Definitely metallics. Whether it’s a metallic pump or mixing metallics with jewelry. You find some great things here at Macy’s. One of my favorite designers, Rachel Roy…DIE! D-I-E. Rachel.” Yes it seriously went down this way…he loves Rachel Roy. “Rachel Roy has some fabulous necklaces. It looks like you’re wearing five necklaces, but it’s just one and it’s [all] attached. It’s just genius!” This is what Nick describes as “adding a Fall punch” to your wardrobe. Another one of Nick’s favorite Fall trends? Military of course! Not just any military…military jackets…and specifically FITTED military jackets….cargo pants oo. He states [with regards to cargo pants], “Don’t go for the typical baggy kind. Keep it skinny, and ladies…even if you’re not a size 2 you can still do skinny. I don’t want to hear it! I have seen some fabulous plus size ladies who WORK IT! It’s all about confidence…”

——————————

Onto the next….Nick has taught at FIDM, he’s designed, styled, done TV hosting and much more…I had to ask him what is his favorite job or what his favorite part about his job is. He responded, “I know I’m lucky doing something that I love…and getting paid for it. I’m so happy for that. There are a lot of people who go through the world, go through life for years and years and years, stuck in a job that they don’t like and they just can’t wait for retirement. That’s kind of sad. For me, I just can’t wait what the next day brings to me.” I think that’s very important and I couldn’t agree more. It’s so important to do what you love because it’s better to enjoy life than to just “get by.” Nick then went on to talk about how he worked in the fashion industry for 12 years literally doing every job in the business. He always heard his “superiors” talking about how much the traveled and he was quite envious at the time. Now, he literally “lives out of a suitcase” but he loves to travel (especially when he gets an upgrade…and he thanks American Airlines for that).

——————————

The infamous question I ask everyone, because I am ChiCityFashion of course, is “What is your favorite part about Chicago?” and “Do you have any commentary with regards to Chicago fashion?” Nick immediately responded with how much he loves Chicago (good answer!) and claims it’s one of his top 3 favorite cities in the country. Nick goes on, “It’s one of the most beautiful cities architecturally. I love the downtown area. It has some of my favorite stores and boutiques. Everyone here is so wonderful.” Although Nick raves about how much he loves Chicago, he has never been here in the winter or in the super hot and humid summer days. So he definitely considers himself quite lucky with regards to the weather here. Nick says, “In terms of fashion, I think it’s a great fashionable city. I’ve judged Project Runway casting with Tim Gunn and we saw a lot of fashion here.”

Red Carpet Fashion: Best Dressed at the 2010 Emmy Awards

What did you think of the Emmys last night? Did you agree with who won? Do you even care? Let’s get to the important part…the clothes. I like to celebrate who got it right (and who almost did) but we won’t dwell on any WTF moments. We can save that for E! Fashion Police tonight 🙂

And the nominees for best dressed…

Normally, I am not one for simplicity. Although this dress may not seem simple due to the sequins and sparkle, it’s a simple color and silhouette therefore I deem it quite simple. However, I think she looks absolutely stunning. The gown fits her perfectly, her hair has a little something going on but not too much and her makeup is perfection. She could have gone a little more with the makeup, possibly a pop of color on the lip, but overall she had a great night and she totally rocked that dress.

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta

I know Lea has already had a black ODLR moment (see my Golden Globes post) but this one definitely tops it. It’s difficult to do black on the red carpet because the exquisite detailing of the gown doesn’t always show, but Lea totally rocked this look. Although I’m a huge fan of Oscar, his gowns can be a little “serious” which is why I love the playfulness and youthful look of her hair and makeup; it perfectly balances the entire look. Plus, how fabulous is that necklace? Bravo Lea/Lea’s stylist!

So most people know this chick from some vampire show I don’t watch and I just found out five minutes ago she’s not the teacher Dan was hooking up with on Gossip Girl. So basically I don’t really know who she is…but she’s gorgeous and that gown looks amazing on her. It’s a simple color with gorgeous detailing and I am obsessed with the neckline…it looks like a strapless top with a draped one shoulder and I absolutely love it. The hair and makeup is elegant and it brings the entire look together.

————————

Like I said before, I must give credit to those who almost made it but because I’m picky, I just cannot get myself to put them on the actual Best Dressed List. Maybe next year ladies…

I wanted this to be best dressed so badly but I just couldn’t get myself to do it. I had to get a front and back shot of this one. This dress is custom made (with over 15,00 Swarovski crystals might I add) and don’t get me wrong, it is a gorgeous gown. BUT I do not like how the open back cuts into the front. I am all for an open back…it’s actually one of my favorite things to see on the red carpet…but I am not for side cut-outs in a dress and that’s the effect you get when looking at this gown from the front. That is the only complaint I have. Otherwise, it is a gorgeous dress and it fits her like a glove.

January Jones in Versace

There’s a lot of I have to say about this look. Let’s start off with the main reason why January gets into this post…I applaud her for taking a risk. This gown is a big risk for both silhouette AND color. The style kind of reminds me of the Atelier Versace gown Anne Hathaway wore to the premier of Rachel Getting Married…which I loved by the way (not the movie, the gown). The combination of the bold color AND the bold style (with the RED carpet) is just too much. I think this dress is more appropriate for editorial. The vibrant blue and the bright red of the carpet is a little to patriotic for me…all we need now is January waving a white flag.

————————

Well that’s enough out of me…how about you? Who were your best dressed picks at the Emmys? I would love to hear from you!
