Currently Channeling: Margherita Missoni

In honor of my latest purchase, a vintage Missoni dress, I wanted to dedicate a blog post to the heiress and face of the brand, Margherita Missoni (who also happens to be one of my style icons). Not only is she absolutely gorgeous, but she can pull off just about anything and everything she wears. Only Margherita could wear a floor-length dress and her signature Missoni headband (sporting it “hippie-style” of course) to a black-tie event…and get away with it. She has such a sweet and refreshing face that I just can’t help but think, “why aren’t we friends yet Margherita?”

Red Carpet Fashion: Best Dressed at the 2010 Met Gala

The Met Gala is one of the biggest events the year where the stars get all dressed up, walk the red carpet and this year they celebrated the opening of the “American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity” exhibition. I was a little disappointed I didn’t see more risk-taking with last night’s fashion choices, but it’s a very formal event and I understand why most people dressed more conservitavely.

I have two lists for you today…those who got it 100% right and those who almost got it…but the look as a whole just didn’t make the cut. Hope you like what I have to say…and if you don’t, it’s okay…let it out in the comments section 🙂

Here are thost who really blew me away…

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

I’m not the biggest JLo fan but I don’t think this list would be complete without her on it. Look at that dress…it’s absolutely breathtaking! The detailing is so beautiful and it fits her perfectly…very flattering. Her accessories are minimal (as they should be because the dress is a lot in itself), her hair looks gorgeous and her makeup is flawless. Bravo JLo!

Emma Roberts in Marni

Definitely a very different look than JLo but I love it just as much. Although it’s more on the conservative end, I think she made the short dress look classy and elegant yet she funked it up with those stellar Marni shoes. Her hair is pulled back and simple to showcase the beautiful ruffles on the neckline and her minimal makeup is absolutely gorgeous. Well done Emma!

Blake Lively in Marchesa

First of all, let’s face it…Blake Lively is GORGEOUS and can rock just about anything she wears. Second of all…this color blue is one of my favorite colors ever…so I obviously love this dress. If you haven’t seen the Marchesa Fall 2010 collection, it’s a must. I even dedicated an entire blog post to it…AND this blue dress was one of my favorites from the collection (see my Marchesa blog post here). Blake definitely made this super short dress work. I love it paired with those lace Louboutins and her overall hair and makeup is gorgeous (as always).

Marion Cotillard in Dior

Three words: Old. Hollywood. Glamour. From the hair and makeup to the gorgeous sparkling Dior gown…it’s all Old Hollywood…and I love every second of it. It all works! What more can I say? Stunning.

A tribute to those who almost got it right…

Sarah Jessica Parker in Halston

When I first looked at this, I thought she would for sure make my best dressed list. Her hair and makeup is gorgeous…and they totally complement the dress…but that bow/flower thing in her hair really isn’t doing it for me. The dress is amazing (what a fabulous color!) but I’m not sure if it does wonders for her figure. Sorry SJP! I’m sure you look great in SATC2…

Charlotte Gainsbourg in Balenciaga

I really just put her in here because I love this dress, the shoes are killer, but I hate them together…and her hair looks like she just woke up. But how amazing are those shoes?

Chloe Sevigny in Proenza Schouler

I give Chloe props for taking a risk…I think if anyone else wore this, I would scorn them for it but she really pulled it off. I love it paired with those shoes but when she turned around…I hated the back. Sorry Chloe…you were so close!

Anne Hathaway in Valentino

First off…doesn’t she look skinnier than usual? That was my first obsevation. My second observation was…hasn’t she worn a nude strapless gown with a large sparkly tulle before? My third obsevation was…yes, yes she has. Then I decided that she looks really pretty but it’s been done…we need more from you Anne! I also think the look would have been more “together” if her hair were up in an elegant ‘do.

So after my rants, raves, and praises…who are your picks for best dressed of the night? What did you think of mine? Anyone you loved and wasn’t on here? I want to hear from you!

Celebs Gone Designer (Part 2)

I hope you read my original Celebs Gone Designer post…because this is a continuation of celebrity-designed collections that are actually worth checking out. Don’t you just feel like anyone who’s been on TMZ a few times all of the sudden thinks they can design clothes? Designers must be talented…and I want to share only the best with you!

Whitney Eve

I am not one for reality stars…but I absolutely love Whitney Port. She genuinely seems like a good person and that’s hard to find in the Hollywood scene these days. I love her style…I don’t think I have ever seen an outfit of hers I didn’t like (I’m especially obsessed with the one pictured above that she wore for her show at Fashion Week). If you watched the first episode of the new season of The City you see part of the production of her Whitney Eve collection that debuted this February at New York Fashion Week.

Here’s a glimpse of her collection:

House of Harlow 1960

One of the most fashionable people in the Hollywood circuit…Nicole Richie. No one pulls off boho like Nicole…and I love every second of it. She has an amazing jewelry collection, House of Harlow 1960, that is reasonably priced and so fabulous. Inspired by her boho-chic style, House of Harlow 1960 has lots of gold pieces with great colors and shapes. I absolutely love the entire collection. She’s recently introduced shoes to her House of Harlow 1960 collection AND she recently launched her clothing line, Winter Kate (which is just as fabulous!)

Here are some of my favorite House of Harlow 1960 pieces:

Top Row (left to right): 14KT Gold Key Cocktail Ring ($59 at shopthetrendboutique.com), 14kt Yellow Gold Plated Aztec Bangle with Leather ($75 at singer22.com)

Bottom Row (left to right): 14KT Gold-plated Peacock Cuff with Enamel ($190 at shopthetrendboutique.com), 14ct Yellow Gold Plated Feather Necklace ($115 at asos.com)

So, what do you think of these celebs gone designers? Do you like their collections? Who are your favorite celebrity designers? I always love to hear from you!

Celebs Gone Designers

If you follow me on Twitter, you may experience my spontaneous rants in regards to “celebrities” (notice the quotations…they’re there for a reason) turned designers. As I like to say, “just because you were on TV for 22 minutes a week for 6 weeks does not mean you have an eye for designing handbags.”

On that note, let’s move on to the celebs gone designers that are ACTUALLY WORTH CHECKING OUT. These people  have a true sense for fashion and are huge icons in the fashion world.

Elizabeth and James by Mary-Kate and Ashley Oleson

1. Luna Dress ($265 at shopbop.com), 2. Gypsy shoes ($225 at piperlime.gap.com), 3. Swoon Woven Wedge Booties ($425 at shopbop.com), 4. Zip Back Blazer ($395 at nordstrom.com)

Elizabeth and James has been one of my favorite brands for a while now. When I made my first E&J purchase, I didn’t even know it was the Oleson twins’ line! From blazers and dresses to shoes and jewelry, Elizabeth and James covers it all…and it’s all so fabulous! For more Elizabeth and James designs, check out www.elizabethandjames.us and be sure to check out Mary-Kate and Ashley’s upscale collection, The Row at www.therow.com

DVB by Victoria Beckham

A few looks from her Spring 2010 Collection

Who doesn’t love Posh? She always always the best dressed Spice Girl 🙂 Victoria Beckham’s line consists of eyewear, denim and and dresses. I have a pair of dVb sunglasses (green aviators with mirrored lenses to be exact) and I absolutely love them. My favorite dVb moments are Cameron Diaz at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party and Jennifer Hudson at the Grammy Awards. Want more from Victoria Beckham? Check out www.victoriabeckham.com

L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani

1. Vogul Sandals ($345 at heels.com), 2. Verdu Sandals ($325 at heels.com), 3. Vail Sandals ($300 at heels.com), 4. Signature Williamsfield Bag ($240 at zappos.com), 5. Ultraviolet Rhodes Bag ($305 at zappos.com), 6. Signature Melbourne Bag ($215 at zappos.com)

Gwen Stefani has been known for her cool sense of style which encompasses lots of color and geometric prints. She has shown at New York Fashion Week (see her full collections at www.style.com) and she has an amazing collection of shoes and handbags (see my favorites above). Gwen Stefani is one of those designers that designs clothing and accessories that she wants to wear (which I always appreciate in a designer…it’s what makes their pieces different from the rest). Don’t forget to check Gwen out on the cover of this month’s InStyle Magazine.
