Chicago Designer to Showcase at Barneys New York

I always love to hear about (then write about) Chicago designers. I love Chicago and I love fashion…and this post embraces my two favorite things. Margaret J. Harris’s jewelry line, Journey Jewelry Collection, will be launched this Wednesday (April 21) from 5-7pm at Barneys on Oak Street. Margaret is one of the few Chicago designers to ever be sold at Barneys so this is very exciting news! Margaret J. Harris is an internationally recognized interior designer and she has now expanded her portfolio to include jewelry inspired by her own experiences and life-long travels.

Marchesa Fall 2010 RTW

Georgina Chapman, the woman behind Marchesa, is known as Queen of the Red Carpet…because let’s face it, celebs love to wear her designs to awards shows and premiers. What makes Marchesa designs so unique is the architectural shaping…it’s like wearing art. I appreciate great detail in clothes and it’s lines like Marchesa that truly inspire me and make me love fashion as much as I do.

Marchesa Fall 2010 RTW was a breathtaking collection of 26 pieces with a variety of colors, lengths and detailing. These beautiful pieces are truly one-of-a-kind…you definitely know a Marchesa when you see one.

Here are my favorite pieces from Marchesa Fall 2010 RTW:

I always love a little white dress…but this is the ultimate party frock. The feathering detail is oh-so-glamorous and you can’t help but feel absolutely amazing in a piece like this. Stunning.

This is what I’m talking about…THIS is what a wedding dress should look like. I’m sick of seeing the same white strapless dress walk down the aisle. I’ve officially decided this will be my wedding dress…even though I am not engaged…or even close…but at least I got one detail down 🙂

I love love love this rich blue color. It’s one of my favorite colors to wear. Far from subtle, the color of this dress and its intricate detailing will definitely get you noticed–it’s a show stopper! I can’t even take my eyes off the picture…it’s that amazing.

Celebs Gone Designers

If you follow me on Twitter, you may experience my spontaneous rants in regards to “celebrities” (notice the quotations…they’re there for a reason) turned designers. As I like to say, “just because you were on TV for 22 minutes a week for 6 weeks does not mean you have an eye for designing handbags.”

On that note, let’s move on to the celebs gone designers that are ACTUALLY WORTH CHECKING OUT. These people  have a true sense for fashion and are huge icons in the fashion world.

Elizabeth and James by Mary-Kate and Ashley Oleson

1. Luna Dress ($265 at shopbop.com), 2. Gypsy shoes ($225 at piperlime.gap.com), 3. Swoon Woven Wedge Booties ($425 at shopbop.com), 4. Zip Back Blazer ($395 at nordstrom.com)

Elizabeth and James has been one of my favorite brands for a while now. When I made my first E&J purchase, I didn’t even know it was the Oleson twins’ line! From blazers and dresses to shoes and jewelry, Elizabeth and James covers it all…and it’s all so fabulous! For more Elizabeth and James designs, check out www.elizabethandjames.us and be sure to check out Mary-Kate and Ashley’s upscale collection, The Row at www.therow.com

DVB by Victoria Beckham

Who doesn’t love Posh? She always always the best dressed Spice Girl 🙂 Victoria Beckham’s line consists of eyewear, denim and and dresses. I have a pair of dVb sunglasses (green aviators with mirrored lenses to be exact) and I absolutely love them. My favorite dVb moments are Cameron Diaz at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party and Jennifer Hudson at the Grammy Awards. Want more from Victoria Beckham? Check out www.victoriabeckham.com

L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani

1. Vogul Sandals ($345 at heels.com), 2. Verdu Sandals ($325 at heels.com), 3. Vail Sandals ($300 at heels.com), 4. Signature Williamsfield Bag ($240 at zappos.com), 5. Ultraviolet Rhodes Bag ($305 at zappos.com), 6. Signature Melbourne Bag ($215 at zappos.com)

Gwen Stefani has been known for her cool sense of style which encompasses lots of color and geometric prints. She has shown at New York Fashion Week (see her full collections at www.style.com) and she has an amazing collection of shoes and handbags (see my favorites above). Gwen Stefani is one of those designers that designs clothing and accessories that she wants to wear (which I always appreciate in a designer…it’s what makes their pieces different from the rest). Don’t forget to check Gwen out on the cover of this month’s InStyle Magazine.

Versace Spring 2010 RTW

Versace is a favorite of A-List stars like Angelina Jolie, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Garner and many more. I was obsessed when I first saw pictures from the Versace Spring 2010 RTW collection and I want to share my favorite looks with you. Check out the shoes too…they’re amazing!

The collection is very futuristic looking with the silver and metallic detailing. The colors are gorgeous and vibrant and I absolutely love the super mini dresses.  The long dresses with the high slit are a Versace-must and a great way to make a long dress look sexy and modern.

Now let’s take a look at my favorite pieces from Versace Fall 2010 RTW:

Doesn’t help that Abbey Lee Kershaw (model in the first and third photo) is absolutely gorgeous and can make anything look good. But still…these are my favorite dresses from the collection.

Jeremy Scott Fall 2010 RTW

If you don’t know who Jeremy Scott is, you might recognize his Flintstones collection (Spring 2010 RTW) seen on Kell on Earth. If you now know what I’m talking about, Jeremy Scott is far from normal but I appreciate all aspects of fashion and respect the creativity of all designers. This collection is far from ordinary, which I absolutely love. It features both male and female models sporting barcodes, targets, gold bricks, Christmas lights, stained glass and lots of black. In order to fully understand what I’m talking about, you can see the full collection at www.style.com.

To partially understand what I’m talking about, here are my favorite pieces from Jeremy Scott’s Fall 2010 RTW collection:

Lady Gaga anyone? That’s the first thing that comes to mind when I see this look. And I absolutely love it.

This was my absolute favorite piece from the collection. I would actually wear this and yes, I would hold my arms out all day so you can get the full effect. Some of you may recognize this look because it was recently seen on Rihanna.

The train of the dress on a hanger with the designer’s name bended into the wire? Only Jeremy Scott could pull this off. GENIUS!

This is what I meant by the Christmas lights. I’m not sure exactly what they are but I LOVE IT. I love the one-piece with the colored “Christmas lights” but then add matching slouch boots? To die for.

So, what do you think of Jeremy Scott’s collection? What are your favorite pieces? What did you think of the Flintstone’s collection? I understand it’s not for everyone but I want to know what you think!
