Otis and Maclain: Hip, LA Style Defined

Otis and Maclain is a fairly new brand that has recently gotten a lot of press. Seen on many celebrities, especially The Hills stars such as Stephanie Pratt, Audrina Patridge, and Lauren Conrad, Otis and Maclain has become a staple of LA-style. The owners, Shamani Hall and Andrea Cheatham,  met managing Madison, a clothing store in LA, where many items from their line can be found (check out www.madisonlosangeles.com).

Here are some of my favorite pieces from Otis and Maclain:

As you can see, O&M has a very laid-back yet still modern and chic style. Their clothing is super comfortable and really easy to wear. Otis and Maclain can be purchased at Intermix, Madison and many other clothing boutiques. See the Otis and Maclain website for more information.

Look of the Day: Mulberry

Mulberry Fall 2010 RTW

According to style.com, “Creative director Emma Hill’s eclectic inspirations, according to the program notes, included Valley of the Dolls, naughty English royalty, Hollywood theatricals, and over-the-top animal prints.” By looking through the each look from the show, you definitely get a little bit of everything.

This was my favorite look from the collection for many reasons…

1) The dress is absolutely amazing…the colors are vibrant and beautiful and the gold embellishments really pull the whole look together.

2) I’m really into the orange pouch purse with the gold chain…it complements the dress perfectly and this style handbag is very in right now.

3) Not everyone is into bright blue shoes but i sure am! I love a mis-matched purse-and-shoe combo and this is as mismatched as you can get…in a good way!

4) The big hair and fierce eyemake up is perfect and overall, I just LOVE this look.

That’s just my opinion though…what’s yours?

Red Carpet Fashion: Best Dressed at the 2010 Oscars

Hollywood’s biggest night and one of fashion’s biggest nights as well…the Oscars / the Academy Awards (whichever you prefer).  There were some fashion don’ts (see Charlize Theron in Dior) but mostly there were a lot of people who looked good but didn’t blow me away. In order to make any of my best dressed lists, you must blow me away…otherwise you’re just “okay dressed” not “BEST dressed.”

I also apologize for this being almost a week late…I was on vacation so you must forgive me 🙂

Here are my best dressed picks for the 2010 Oscars:

Demi Moore in Atelier Versace

She got it all right. The dress is beautiful and fits her perfectly. This blush color is very in for Spring and I love love love it! The jewelry complements the dress perfectly as well as the handbag and shoes. Her hair is loose and flowy like the dress and overall she looks absolutely stunning. And of course…this is all due to the amazing work of her stylist, Rachel Zoe.

Cameron Diaz in Oscar De La Renta

Who doesn’t love some Oscar at the Oscars? Let’s be honest…Cameron could wear a potato sac (see Project Runway challenge) and still look amazing. This dress without Cameron is breathtaking…then put her in it and you have perfection! Her hair is very Old-Hollywood Glam and I love the look topped off with the red nails and red lipstick. Yet another great job by her stylist…Rachel Zoe.

Sandra Bullock in Marchesa

First of all, I would never imagine Sandra Bullock in a Marchesa gown. Marchesa usually goes for very architectural, modern looks and that doesn’t seem to be Sandra’s style. However, this gown fits her body PERFECTLY and she looks STUNNING. The hair totally complements the dress…good idea to wear it down and swept to the side for that Old-Hollywood look. Then top it off with some pinkish-red lips…and you have yourself BEST DRESSED OF THE NIGHT. What a year for Sandra! I’m so happy for her and all of her accomplishments….both fashion and movie related 🙂

PS. Doesn’t her dress remind you of Olivia Wilde in Marchesa at the Emmys?

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Haute Couture

I saved this for last because this was a very controversial dress. A lot of people hated it but I loved it. It’s very different and I can see where people are coming from BUT I think Zoe can pull it off. I don’t think I would like this gown on anyone else but I thought she looked so beautiful in it. As Jay Manuel said on the Fashion Police, the top is Armani Prive, the middle is Marchesa and the bottom is Oscar De La Renta…as I can see where he’s coming from…I don’t care because I thought she pulled off this look beautifully. Hey, at least she took a risk AND at least she didn’t wear blue. So sick of the Avatar “blue” tribute. Aren’t you?

——————————————-

A tribute to those who almost got it right:

I absolutely LOVED the Armani Prive gown JLo wore…but I didn’t love it on her (loved it on the runway though!) which is why she did not make my best dressed list.

I thought Sarah Jessica Parker looked beautiful. I love [almost] all of the dress…but that backwards halter part of her Chanel Haute Couture gown completely ruined the look. As a strapless gown, it would have been perfect.

Rachel McAdams looked [almost] stunning in her watercolor Elie Saab Haute Couture gown…but the wrapping at the bodice was just a tad short…if it was a few inches longer, it would elongate her torso and she would have looked PERFECT…and she would have definitely made my best dressed list.

So, who were your best dressed picks? Worst dressed? If you don’t agree with mine…that’s okay because I want to hear what you think!

Michael Kors Fall 2010 RTW

This is my second Michael Kors post (of many more to come) and I want to feature my favorite pieces from his Fall 2010 RTW collection. I have to admit, I may be a little biased towards this collection because I love Michael so much (especially for his witty comments on Project Runway) but regardless of him as a person, I still think this collection is amazing and there are many pieces I would wear in a heartbeat.

Like almost every designer for Fall 2010, Michael Kors featured many AMAZING fur pieces (sorry PETA). He also showed chunky knits, lots of brown, tan and gold, and some gorgeous sequin dresses towards the end. Although I’ve never been to Aspen, this collection screamed “Aspen…from day to night.” I even liked the men’s pieces! And I’m not really that into men’s fashion…

Here are my favorite pieces from the Michael Kors Fall 2010 RTW collection:

This was the first look of the collection and I was hooked immediately after seeing it. Usually the first look (or first few looks) is not my favorites of any collection but this just blew me away. It doesn’t hurt that both models are absolutely gorgeous but I thought these two looks coordinated well together and it was a great idea to have them walk them down the runway at the same time. For the female model, I DIE for the fur coat (super lux!) and I love it paired with the boots and leg warmers. For the male model, I love his coat as well (fur trim around the hood is a favorite look of mine…for both men and women!) and the chunky scarf (or is that just a huge cowl neck?) is a beautiful color and looks super luxurious.

No words can express how I feel about this fur coat. It’s got a hint of color and the texture looks beautiful. If I owned this, I don’t think I would ever take it off (even if it was 90 degrees).

In the words of Rachel Zoe, “I’ve never met a sequin I didn’t like.” The color of this dress is beautiful and the sequins are present but not overkill and I think it’s an overall modern glamorous look. Long sleeves and below-the- knee dresses rarely scream “sexy” but the open shoulders on the sleeves gives the perfect amount of subtle sexiness.

Although there’s nothing that special about a gold sequin dress, I love this look as a whole. The second to last dress of the collection was a long gold sequin dress but I like the look of this shorter version paired with the tan boots. The dress is super glam and the boots are more “day in the city” but I think these opposites totally work for the runway.
