Food Pairings: Maude’s Liquor Bar & Marc Jacobs

As per request of many readers, I have officially decided to incorporate food posts as part of my blog. To put the fashion in ChiCityFashion I created a new category called Food Pairings where I pair each restaurant and meal with a designer. So instead of a complimentary Cabernet or a perfect Pinot Grigio, I choose Prada, Proenza or in this case, Marc Jacobs. So with that said…

After making a reservation over a month ago, I finally had the chance to eat at Maude’s Liquor Bar this week. The ambiance is dark, romantic and sophisticated but with a welcoming laid-back feel. The food is French inspired with a focus on seafood, but with a playful American twist. The menu is perfect for foodies looking for exotic offerings like foie gras, bone marrow, and escargot. Of course there are some simpler items like pomme frites, steak, and mussels.

So what did I eat you may be wondering? Well let me elaborate…

Let's start off with some bone marrow, shall we?

Mussels and fries...you can't beat this combo

Roast Farm Chicken...one of the best chicken dishes I've ever had

Only offering one dessert, it had to be good...Creme Brulee. Dig in!

So, where does Marc Jacobs come into play? He’s the first designer I thought of when I really took in the atmosphere, the restaurant’s aesthetic and the food overall. Marc Jacobs is a well known American designer who is also the creative director for one of the most famous French design houses, Louis Vuitton. His designs are sophisticated and tasteful but always have a subtle playfulness…just like Maude’s.

A Missoni Holiday: Interview With Margherita Missoni

Missoni Resort 2012 became available on Moda Operandi today. Although I wanted everything (as always), I decided to restrain myself…for now. However, I came across Moda Operandi’s online magazine and today they featured an interview with my style icon, Margherita Missoni.

Why a Missoni holiday? Because the Missoni Resort 2012 collection was inspired by a getaway to Europe or Asia circa 1920. Moda Operandi states “you only need two or three of these easy outfits for an impromptu getaway” but I have to disagree…because I think I need the whole collection 🙂

Chi City Closet: Chanel Tattoos & Ambush POW Ring

While wandering around Bucktown this weekend at Refinery29’s brunch crawl, I decided to make a few pitstops. One of these pitstops was at RSVP Gallery. If you haven’t been I suggest you go because there is no other store in Chicago like it. Carrying things I’ve never seen anywhere else like Linda Farrow x Jeremy Scott Caesar Gold Leaves Sunglasses and Takashi Murakami prints to name a few, this is a truly unique place.

With that said, I decided to pick myself up a few sweet items from RSVP and I’m so obsessed, I just had to share.

Chanel tattoos that I’ve had my eye on for over a year now…check! Ambush POW neon orange ring…check!

The tattoos match by vintage Chanel eagle necklace from Sofia Vintage…sweet!

Scoop NYC Opening in Chicago’s Gold Coast

One of my favorite stores, Scoop NYC, is opening their second Chicago location this summer! The new boutique is set to open June 23 among the stylish stores of Gold Coast. Located at 1011 N. Rush Street, this is an amazing location for both tourists and local shoppers.

This is Scoop’s first store opening in 4 years and this will be their 15th location in the US. So why Gold Coast you may ask?

Susan Davidson, President and CEO of Scoop said, “Scoop has a robust client base in Chicago, and this second location will offer our current customers another shopping option while also introducing Scoop to new patrons and capitalizing on the terrific tourist clientele that shops on Rush Street.”

Some designers (and my personal favorites) you’ll find at Scoop include Helmut Lang, Missoni, Free City, Camilla Skovgaard, Zac Posen and many more. Great news for stylish men! There will be an entire men’s department on the 2nd floor featuring a variety of young and established designers including Dsquared, Billy Reid, and Simon Spurr.

So be sure to check out Scoop’s new store at 1011 N. Rush starting June 23!
