Red Carpet Fashion: Best Dressed at the 2010 Met Gala

The Met Gala is one of the biggest events the year where the stars get all dressed up, walk the red carpet and this year they celebrated the opening of the “American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity” exhibition. I was a little disappointed I didn’t see more risk-taking with last night’s fashion choices, but it’s a very formal event and I understand why most people dressed more conservitavely.

I have two lists for you today…those who got it 100% right and those who almost got it…but the look as a whole just didn’t make the cut. Hope you like what I have to say…and if you don’t, it’s okay…let it out in the comments section 🙂

Here are thost who really blew me away…

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

I’m not the biggest JLo fan but I don’t think this list would be complete without her on it. Look at that dress…it’s absolutely breathtaking! The detailing is so beautiful and it fits her perfectly…very flattering. Her accessories are minimal (as they should be because the dress is a lot in itself), her hair looks gorgeous and her makeup is flawless. Bravo JLo!

Emma Roberts in Marni

Definitely a very different look than JLo but I love it just as much. Although it’s more on the conservative end, I think she made the short dress look classy and elegant yet she funked it up with those stellar Marni shoes. Her hair is pulled back and simple to showcase the beautiful ruffles on the neckline and her minimal makeup is absolutely gorgeous. Well done Emma!

Blake Lively in Marchesa

First of all, let’s face it…Blake Lively is GORGEOUS and can rock just about anything she wears. Second of all…this color blue is one of my favorite colors ever…so I obviously love this dress. If you haven’t seen the Marchesa Fall 2010 collection, it’s a must. I even dedicated an entire blog post to it…AND this blue dress was one of my favorites from the collection (see my Marchesa blog post here). Blake definitely made this super short dress work. I love it paired with those lace Louboutins and her overall hair and makeup is gorgeous (as always).

Marion Cotillard in Dior

Three words: Old. Hollywood. Glamour. From the hair and makeup to the gorgeous sparkling Dior gown…it’s all Old Hollywood…and I love every second of it. It all works! What more can I say? Stunning.

A tribute to those who almost got it right…

Sarah Jessica Parker in Halston

When I first looked at this, I thought she would for sure make my best dressed list. Her hair and makeup is gorgeous…and they totally complement the dress…but that bow/flower thing in her hair really isn’t doing it for me. The dress is amazing (what a fabulous color!) but I’m not sure if it does wonders for her figure. Sorry SJP! I’m sure you look great in SATC2…

Charlotte Gainsbourg in Balenciaga

I really just put her in here because I love this dress, the shoes are killer, but I hate them together…and her hair looks like she just woke up. But how amazing are those shoes?

Chloe Sevigny in Proenza Schouler

I give Chloe props for taking a risk…I think if anyone else wore this, I would scorn them for it but she really pulled it off. I love it paired with those shoes but when she turned around…I hated the back. Sorry Chloe…you were so close!

Anne Hathaway in Valentino

First off…doesn’t she look skinnier than usual? That was my first obsevation. My second observation was…hasn’t she worn a nude strapless gown with a large sparkly tulle before? My third obsevation was…yes, yes she has. Then I decided that she looks really pretty but it’s been done…we need more from you Anne! I also think the look would have been more “together” if her hair were up in an elegant ‘do.

So after my rants, raves, and praises…who are your picks for best dressed of the night? What did you think of mine? Anyone you loved and wasn’t on here? I want to hear from you!

Celebs Gone Designer (Part 2)

I hope you read my original Celebs Gone Designer post…because this is a continuation of celebrity-designed collections that are actually worth checking out. Don’t you just feel like anyone who’s been on TMZ a few times all of the sudden thinks they can design clothes? Designers must be talented…and I want to share only the best with you!

Whitney Eve

I am not one for reality stars…but I absolutely love Whitney Port. She genuinely seems like a good person and that’s hard to find in the Hollywood scene these days. I love her style…I don’t think I have ever seen an outfit of hers I didn’t like (I’m especially obsessed with the one pictured above that she wore for her show at Fashion Week). If you watched the first episode of the new season of The City you see part of the production of her Whitney Eve collection that debuted this February at New York Fashion Week.

Here’s a glimpse of her collection:

House of Harlow 1960

One of the most fashionable people in the Hollywood circuit…Nicole Richie. No one pulls off boho like Nicole…and I love every second of it. She has an amazing jewelry collection, House of Harlow 1960, that is reasonably priced and so fabulous. Inspired by her boho-chic style, House of Harlow 1960 has lots of gold pieces with great colors and shapes. I absolutely love the entire collection. She’s recently introduced shoes to her House of Harlow 1960 collection AND she recently launched her clothing line, Winter Kate (which is just as fabulous!)

Here are some of my favorite House of Harlow 1960 pieces:

Top Row (left to right): 14KT Gold Key Cocktail Ring ($59 at shopthetrendboutique.com), 14kt Yellow Gold Plated Aztec Bangle with Leather ($75 at singer22.com)

Bottom Row (left to right): 14KT Gold-plated Peacock Cuff with Enamel ($190 at shopthetrendboutique.com), 14ct Yellow Gold Plated Feather Necklace ($115 at asos.com)

So, what do you think of these celebs gone designers? Do you like their collections? Who are your favorite celebrity designers? I always love to hear from you!

Spring Essentials: Accessories Edition

If you can’t tell already from reading my blog, I am obsessed with accessories. Don’t get me wrong…I love clothes, but I also love styling my outfits. There’s something about “decorating” an outfit with some fabulous accessories that makes me really happy and it’s a great opportunity to be creative everyday. Now that Spring is here, we can put away our clunky boots and our chunky sweaters and make way for some fun and fabulous accessories.

I’ve picked out some practical accessories and chosen a variety of each to fit any style or budget. Enjoy!

The Full Coverage Sandal

Top Row (left to right): Elizabeth & James Gypsy ($225 at piperlime.gap.com), 80%20 Open Toe Ankle Strap Booties ($145 at intermixonline.com)

Bottom Row (left to right): Sam Edelman Dawson ($130 at piperlime.gap.com), Boutique 9 ‘Post’ Caged Sandal ($120 at nordstrom.com)

This is the perfect sandal for Spring because they have some coverage to keep your feet warmer on those chilly days but they’re also super stylish and very practical. I recommend getting a pair of these in a neutral color to wear with anything. I love my Joie sandals and because they’re a neutral color, I literally wear them with anything. Pair your full coverage sandals with some cuffed denim shorts and a cute tank or your favorite skinny jeans and a vintage T…the possibilities are endless!

A Bright Clutch

Top Row (left to right): Jimmy Choo Daphne Ponyskin Leather Clutch ($1,495 at net-a-porter.com), Celestina Hand Painted Stingray Clutch ($990 at net-a-porter.com)

Bottom Row (left to right): Lauren Merkin Eve Satin Clutch ($165 at neimanmarcus.com), Oasis Oversized Ruched Clutch ($59 at asos.com)

As great as neutrals are because they go with everything, I absolutely love a bright accessory. An average outfit can be taken to the next level with a bright clutch. Looking for something to spruce up your little black dress? A bright clutch will do just the trick. I also like to pair a bright clutch with skinny jeans, a neutral tank, a fabulous blazer and some killer heels. Just make sure you do not have too many bright accessories because you want the focus to be on the clutch. Also, if you’re going with a bright clutch, please don’t match your shoes…it’s simply too much!

Statement Earrings

Top Row (left to right): Kenneth Jay Lane 22-Karat Gold-Plated Drop Earrings ($210 at net-a-porter.com), Alex + Ani Park Avenue Cocktail Earrings ($130 at shopbop.com)

Bottom Row (left to right): Fiona Paxton Monaco Earrings ($125 at shopbop.com), David Aubrey Green & Turquoise Earrings ($68 at shopkitson.com)

If you read my blog regularly, you may have realized by now that I love to make a fashion statement. A great pair of earrings is a perfect way to do just that. Like a bright clutch, it’s a great way to spruce up a plain outfit. Just make sure you’re not pairing your statement earrings with a statement necklace…that could be a little much. Statement earrings with a statement clutch? Perfectly acceptable. There’s enough room between the earrings and where you hold your clutch where it doesn’t look like too much is going on but you still look absolutely fabulous!

So, what are you favorite accessories? Any specific Spring trends you’re into? What are you favorite accessories from my picks? I always appreciate your feedback!
