A Missoni Holiday: Interview With Margherita Missoni

Missoni Resort 2012 became available on Moda Operandi today. Although I wanted everything (as always), I decided to restrain myself…for now. However, I came across Moda Operandi’s online magazine and today they featured an interview with my style icon, Margherita Missoni.

Why a Missoni holiday? Because the Missoni Resort 2012 collection was inspired by a getaway to Europe or Asia circa 1920. Moda Operandi states “you only need two or three of these easy outfits for an impromptu getaway” but I have to disagree…because I think I need the whole collection 🙂

Along with this amazing newly released feature, I had the opportunity to interview Lauren Sherman, the Editor of Fashionista.com.

Check out this exclusive interview below.

How did you become the Editor of Fashionista.com? What was your involvement with Fashion before?

My first job out of school was as an editorial design assistant at a luxury magazine based in London. I moved back to New York and was hired at Forbes to do Lifestyle. A year later, I was named Fashion and Style reporter at Forbes. In January 2010 I was hired to edit Fashionista.com.

What changes do you see being made in the Fashion Industry within the next 5 years?

More attention to the web. Web leaders will come out and become more established. People are still figuring it out now but it will be more established in five years. The legitimate sites won’t just have to do with traffic numbers; it will be more determined by influence.

As far as trends, I think designers are going to produce clothing closer to where they live. It’s a matter of control; keeping products the way they want them.

How did you come up with the idea for the Fashionista 50?

We have been working on it since last Fashion Week [in September]. I worked at Forbes which was very “listy” so I thought it would be a great way to get this information out.

What are you looking forward to most this Fashion Week?

I love fall clothes (fabrics, outerwear, layering). I’m excited for Theyskens Theory and Proenza Schouler. We are working with Swarovski this year so I’m excited to see how designers incorporate crystals into their looks.

A fellow Proenza lover? I think we have something here Lauren 🙂

The High Low: Tim Gunn Interviews Suanna Moyer

I believe Tim Gunn to be one of the most influential people in the fashion industry, so I’m always interested in his interviews…whether he is interviewing or the one being interviewed, I love Tim too much to pass it up!

Recently, he interviewed Susanna Moyer, Vice President of Design at Liz Claiborne, whom he met at Parsons a while back. This interview is the first part of a three-part series where Tim and Susanna discuss her role in the fashion industry, her success story, and more.

My Interview with Celebrity Stylist, Julie Weiss

Last week, I had the pleasure of doing a phone interview with celebrity stylist, Julie Weiss.

Julie has styled everything from commercials and music videos to ad campaigns, editorials and awards shows. She has worked with A-list celebs like Britney Spears and Kanye West. She was also on the MTV show, Styl’d, as one of the stylists at Margaret Maldonado Agency (MMA).

My Interview with Jon Valdez of Orange Juice & Biscuits

When I was in New York for Fashion Week in September, I had the pleasure of meeting Jon Valdez of Orange Juice & Biscuits. He is very passionate about fashion and entertainment, which is obvious from his informative yet witty blog posts. If you aren’t familiar with OJ&B, get familiar…because you will be seeing lots more of Jon in the future.

1. How did you start your blog, Orange Juice & Biscuits?

OJ&B was originally a successful morning show that I did at KTSW-FM 89.9 in San Marcos, TX for 3 years.  During that time I was press at SXSW Film for 2 years in a row and got to do red carpet interviews with Paul Rudd, Rashida Jones, Jaime Pressly, Rosario Dawson and more.  When I graduated college and the show ended, people seemed to still want to hear what I had to say about topics. I was thrilled and surprised! People kept asking me why I was not blogging so finally in August 2009 I started Orangejuiceandbiscuits.com.The rest is super fun and fierce history haha.

2. What is your favorite thing to blog about?

My favorite things to blog about are funny celeb stories or an odd fashion trend.  I just love using humor to express my thoughts.  Like when Lohan’s shoes exploded or when Armani did male monokini’s, HOT MESS! I also love being able to voice my opinion about what the designers are putting out there each season.

3. What celebrity would you love to interview and why?

Dolly Parton, because she is Dolly Parton. I would want her to write a song for me on her nails because she actually writes music using her nails! Also, Kelly Cutrone because I have always admired her “keep it real attitude.”  These little big eyed, blonde girls ask her who has inspired her the most.  They expect her to say a fashion legend or a celeb but Kelly talks about some Guru or healer that has really changed her way of thinking. The girls are like “WTF?” I LOVE IT!

4. What has been your most exciting moment with regards to OJ&B?

My most exciting moment would have to be going to my first major Mercedes-Benz fashion week show in February 2010 to see Fall/Winter 2010.  I got to see DKNY and Donna Karan. I will never forget being at the Donna Karan F/W 10 show because it was my very first time to see Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington from American Vogue.  It was definitely a “Wow” moment because you realize how lucky you are to be reviewing a show that all of the major players are there to see.  It was inspiring to see them working right in front of me.  Also being official press at Merecedes-Benz fashion week in Sepetember 2010 for Spring/Summer 2011. People came up to me because they recognized who I was! I was flipping out with excitement!

5. Any new adventures for OJ&B in the future?

OJ&B is definitely growing! It is exciting to see the level of events that I am getting invited to becoming bigger and bigger.  What I would love to do more video interviews and to have a talk show on television soon.  My ultimate goal is to have a daytime talk show.  I have a passion for interviewing people and I am itching for the right person to pick up on that and get me in front of a camera for an amazing network on T.V. or the Internet.
