CCF Turns Five

On this day (or around this day) in 2009, I made a free account on WordPress (chicityfashion.wordpress.com) and started writing about fashion things because I was bored in college. I never even checked for grammatical errors, I put terrible collages together in Polyvore and all because I don’t know how to use Photoshop…and I thought no one would ever see this site. Fast forward, five years later…and holy shit, this is my job.

Never in a million years (well I’m only 26…so 26 years) would I have thought that writing fashion-related thoughts that came to my head on the Internet would be my career. But somehow it is. And that wouldn’t be made possible without YOU. So, really…hats off to you! (isn’t that how it goes?)

If you never came to chicityfashion.com, who knows where I’d be today? Perhaps living on a friend’s couch (hopefully it would be semi-comfortable), without my two wonderful dogs (who I made an Instagram account for yesterday…did I go too far?), maybe I’d pursue my dream of being a food critic or some other job where I’m paid to eat. Who knows? What I do know is that I’m glad I’m here today and beyond thankful for you. NONE of this would be happening if it weren’t for you (and my web developer).

Now just because I’m 5 doesn’t mean I’ve made it, although the photo above really looks like I feel otherwise (and I had some pretty good highlights for last year’s anniversary post). There’s still a lot more I want to accomplish and whether it’s with ChiCityFashion or other ventures (like Curalist…are you listing yet?) writing about fashion here on CCF isn’t the ultimate goal but it’s something I really enjoy doing along the way. I have ZERO idea where I’ll end up. My least favorite interview question (besides “how would you describe your personal style?”) is “where do you see yourself in five years?” I can’t predict the future plus I’m super indecisive, so I’m willing to go wherever life takes me. Most likely it will still be in Chicago (this is CHICITYfashion after all…can’t change that).

I always forget about my “anniversary” so please be mindful of the fact that I’m reusing photos you’ve already seen here on CCF (although one or two might be outtakes). At least I’m saying hi OR throwing up a FIVE (for five years…get it?) in this pic. None of that matters, though. What matters is that I know this might seem OUT OF THE BLUE…

Turning 5 in the blog world is like being 28 in the modeling world — you’re OLD. But having amazing readers like you make me feel like I’m 1 again. So one last time…
