I’m just going to be short and sweet with this introduction, this month’s Chi City’s Most Stylish is basically the Anna Dello Russo of Chicago (except a hell of a lot younger and instead of working for a magazine, she works at the best store in the entire city).
I met Courtney at Ikram a few years ago but we’re both from the same genre of suburbs so I feel like we had probably crossed paths at some point pre-real-adult-life. The way she dresses is unlike anyone else I’ve come across here in Chicago. She’s always dressed up but in a funky, unique and avant-garde way. What I love most about the way she dresses is that she’s not at all pretentious about it. She knows so much about all the designers she wears and appreciates every single piece. How many people do you know would wear a hot pink Oscar de la Renta feathered outfit to their siblings’ B’nai Mitzvah party? I went to a lot of those celebrations growing up and I can assure you I saw nothing but skirt suits on the ladies and Bebe on us kids. This is one of the many reasons Courtney Cunniff had to be featured for Chi City’s Most Stylish.
So let’s get to know Courtney and look at her wearing pretty clothes.
What’s your favorite thing about Chicago?
I grew up in the suburbs, so Chicago has always been home. The summers are the best, and the people are the friendliest I’ve encountered in any big city.
What do you love most about your neighborhood?
It’s close to the lake, I’m walking distance from work, and it doesn’t hurt that I get to live next door to More cupcakes (well actually it hurts my waistline).
Go-to restaurant in Chicago is?
I love me some Big Star…although I don’t really discriminate against any restaurant with guacamole on the menu. You can also find me at Ikram cafe! Keeping the principles of farm to table in mind, there are always great options for fashionistas with a craving. The menu changes daily based on what’s in season at the market and take it from me…it never disappoints!
Advice to out-of-towners?
Take the architectural boat tour and check out the Modern Wing at the Art Institute.
If you had all the money in the world, what would you wear?
The entire Nina Ricci Spring/Summer 2014 collection and lots of Loree Rodkin jewelry.
What impact does fashion have on your life?
Fashion is my life. It’s definitely a creative outlet for me. Whether it was dressing a Barbie doll, or styling my mom to go out for dinner, ever since I was little I have always been obsessed with clothing and style. I think that fashion is transformative and I love seeing how a great outfit can make someone feel.
The best part about your job?
I get to play dress up every day! I work in the best store in the world and it’s exciting to be surrounded by beautiful pieces season after season.
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
An olympic gymnast. Seriously though!
I describe my style as…
I like to dress to the beat of my own fashion drum. Nothing in my closet is the same. I wear a lot of color and print and I think it’s fun to mix and match. I’m usually more dressed up than the rest of my friends but it’s my personal belief that it’s better to be overdressed than underdressed! I’m currently gushing over my new Chanel black chain boots – I don’t remember what my life was like before I bought them!
A special thanks to Public for letting us use their beautiful space for these photos. If you’re ever looking for a private space for an event, ask for the Ava room. You won’t regret it!
