If you didn’t think there were enough capes to talk about in part one, just wait until you see what’s in store for part two. The Golden Globes red carpet realness continues…
Brie Larson in Calvin Klein
I almost always love Calvin Klein on the red carpet but this one was a major miss for me. The designs are usually quite minimal but in a good way (in a less is more way). THIS is the opposite of minimal — between the neckline, the cut outs and the beading (I also don’t like how you can see her shoes through the dress…not sure why it bothers me so much, but it does!) all of the elements together combined with her overall “vibe” just doesn’t work.
Eva Longoria in Georges Hobeika
I loathe everything about this. The dress on its own is hideous but I would forgive it if the fit was perfect…and unfortunately, it’s far from. It takes a miracle dress to make Eva’s chest look bad and her hips look wide (as neither of those things hold true on their own) but somehow, her perfect little body looks quite drab (and in bows and flowers!)
Amy Schumer in Prabal Gurung
This reminds me of my Jessica McClintock homecoming dress circa 2003 (and that’s not a compliment).
Jane Fonda
As Jerry Seinfeld once said, “I don’t wanna be a pirate!”
Emilia Clarke in Valentino Couture
This is one of those looks that probably made much more of an impact in person. In photos it looks nice but it doesn’t blow me away (like a Valentino Couture cape dress should).
Amy Adams in Versace
Already forgot it.
Emmy Rossum in Armani Prive
As much as a red strapless dress is the most disappointing thing someone could wear on the red carpet (seriously, could you be less original?) at least the fit here is beautiful and that Van Cleef & Arpels necklace brings an interesting element to the look.
Kate Bosworth in Dolce & Gabbana
With this crazy heavy beading, I was SURE this was Balmain but regardless of who designed it, I would probably hate this dress on literally anyone else. That’s the power Kate Bosworth has. She really can do no wrong.
Jenna Dewan Tatum in Zuhair Murad Couture
It’s not the coolest dress I’ve ever seen but I do appreciate pockets in a gown to give it a slightly more casual aesthetic. Her makeup looks incredible. And I look forward to seeing more Jenna / Channing lip sync battles for years to come.
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior
Best Dressed Pick
We saw so many cut-out dresses last year on the red carpet that I was hoping we’d be done with them in 2016. According to last night’s red carpet, there’s clearly still a few trickling in. HOWEVER when they are done like this, I am so on board. Between the open back and this layered cut-out effect, it’s a nice and unique way to do the trend. I don’t think this would have been a best dressed pick if the Dior wasn’t topped off with that Chopard necklace. It would have been even more amazing if the necklace sat up higher (and was more of a true choker) BUT I’ll take what I can get. She rarely gets it right in Dior (which is unfortunate as that’s pretty much all she wears) but finally, we have a winner.
Kate Winslet in Ralph Lauren
Is it just me or does she always wear this? (also what pastry does her hair look like? I can’t put my finger on it…but I do want to get my hands on some baked goods right about now).
Leslie Mann in Monique Lhuillier
She’s a total hit or miss when it comes to the red carpet. She’s made my best dressed list numerous times, as she always goes for something different and it usually pays off. This is a strange choice, though. I thought the fit was terrible, but after looking at the runway photo, it looks like the overly billowy top is supposed to be that way. It’s like a bridesmaid’s dress the bride thinks is a great idea and once you try it on you no longer want to be friends with her.
Rosie Huntington-Whitely in Atelier Versace
Hair and makeup AMAZING (like hashtag goals amazing) but the dress? It’s alright…but we know she can do better.
Zoe Kazan Miu Miu
Where does Zoe end and the dress begin?
Saoirse Ronan in Yves Saint Laurent Couture
Meh to the next level.
Zendaya in Marchesa
That color is fantastic and I hope she tries it again but I just don’t like a multi-tier dress (on anyone) so this is one I can’t get behind.
Natalie Dormer in J Mendel
WTF?
Lily James in Marchesa
If you take Saoirse Ronan’s dress and make it slightly more interesting…this is what you get. It is amazing? No. Is it horrid? No. Why is she so damn pretty? I DON’T KNOW.
Kate Hudson in Michael Kors
I don’t care how sick your body is, once you get a certain age…a cropped tube top (although technically connected to the skirt at the back here, but you get the picture) is no longer appropriate…especially when paired with sky high platforms. However, I think this dress does look nice from behind…unfortunately you can’t base your red carpet choices off of that alone. Adore the new hair though!
Laverne Cox in Elizabeth Kennedy
Great fit but doesn’t excite me.
Taraji P. Henson in Stella McCartney
COOKIES FOR EVERYONE!!! Seriously, though, the dress is fine BUT that little Stella bag is everything.
Olivia Palermo in Delpozo
Sorry why are you here? WHO CARES?! THERE’S DELPOZO ON THE RED CARPET AND I’M LOVING EVERY SECOND OF IT.
Olivia Wilde in Michael Kors
She looks gorgeous (minus the eye makeup) and the necklace is a nice touch…but I prefer when Olivia BRINGS IT. Last night, she forgot “it” at home.

Until the next red carpet! Don’t forget to share your best and worst dressed picks in the comments. And if you’re feeling extra chatty today, I’d love to hear your favorite trend from last night too. Perhaps you went crazy for the capes (JLo, Jada, Emilia)? You dig the deep V (Jaimie, Taylor, Jenna)? Sucker for statement necklaces (both Olivias, J-Law, Emmy)? Or you’re just happy to get bridal inspiration (Alicia, Laverne, Lilly, Saoirse)? As you can see, I’m already on a first name basis with everyone. I figure after years of doing these red carpet posts, I think it’s about time…don’t you?
