In the words of Heidi Klum, “as you know in fashion, one day you‘re in and the next day, you‘re out.” Right now, London Fashion Week is out and Milan Fashion Week is in, but let’s give LFW some love (after all, it’s only been over for a day) and do a little recap. I hope you enjoyed the NYFW Spring 2015 version because now it’s time to discuss what the Brits are doing across the pond (and let me tell you…it’s some GOOD stuff).
So if you haven’t figured it out right now, that “code” in the title stands for London Fashion Week Spring 2015. You know I’ve told you before (and even wrote a post about it) that I’m not all that into attending fashion week anymore, but those were my thoughts before heading to London last September. LFW has a much more relaxed vibe, the shows are more interesting (because British designers ROCK) and I’m not going to lie, for the first time I did experience some FOMO this season. So with that said, there’s always a lot to take in when the new collections debut, so here’s what you need to know about LFW SS15.
Let’s start off with some non-show-related news…have you heard about Sergio The Shoe Hunter? The geniuses over at The Outnet took street style hunting to another level at LFW and “hired” a dachshund named Sergio to spot the most fabulous shoes on the streets of London. As a dog lover myself (okay fine I’m straight-up obsessed), I could not appreciate this more. This is probably the coolest thing that’s ever happened at any fashion week and this is the sole reason (get it?) I experienced major FOMO at LFW this year (not missing the shows…missing the sausage dog, duh).
Now moving onto the shows. It’s rare to see a show full of clothes we can actually afford so it’s always a little more exciting to see what Topshop Unique does each season. For Spring, it was this sporty nautical theme that’s easy to wear (and one of the few times stripes showed up at LFW, unlike New York…) as well as included some flowy party dresses (including this transparent nude one, that I’m sure has an occasion…I just can’t think of one).
Simone Rocha just takes feminine fabrics to another level and makes them into something not so “flirty” (my feelings towards that word to describe fashion things are similar to Anna’s feelings towards the word “journey.”) Although it seems like everyone is making sheer clothing these days, Simone Rocha is doing it right and in a super unique way.
Mary Katrantzou was quite the shocker this season (at least at first) because we’re used to such bright prints and structured silhouettes from her. These are the total opposite.
But of course she had to squeeze in those signature prints, although the silhouettes are much more relaxed this season.
For SS15, Tom Ford made a tailored suit, nipple pasties and everything in between.
Also wore a Tom Ford-ed out Canadian Tuxedo.
Erdem did one of those collections where you’re just in awe of the detail. I wasn’t even there and I can appreciate all the work that went into these clothes just by seeing the photos (and not even the close-ups). So I can’t imagine how these would look in person. Like Beyonce would say…FLAWLESS.
Markus Lupfer seems to be doing less of his quirky sequin sweaters (this 100% one was the only sweater in the collection) but still taking a not-so-serious approach to his designs. This collection read futuristic surfer to me…and because my favorite collection of all time (Proenza Schouer SS10) had a surfer/scuba vibe to it, I am down for any collection that plays to this theme.
Oh and there were jellies…
This happened at Richard Nicoll.

This whole rave culture seems to be popping up in fashion now. Between Sophia Webster, Tommy Hilfiger and Peter Pilotto (and that’s just so far) they all have different interpretations yet it all comes back to bright colors and prints that make you feel like you’re on an acid trip (not like I’d know from experience or anything).
If I could describe this collection in one sentence (besides raving and acid trips) I would say it’s like Rainbow Road (as in Mario Kart, Nintendo 64) meets Lite-Brite (talk about a Throwback Thursday).
Is this a runway show or a Disney ride? Anya Hindmarch (who I’m thinking I need to do a whole post on…she’s just been killing it lately) went all out for SS15 — there were glow-in-the-dark dancing skeletons, a magic tea cup ride and bags that said this…
FASHUN IS FUN.
Speaking of fun, no one does fun like Ashish. All sequin everything, all the time. I really look forward to seeing what he does each season (I mean, hello?) but he really went there this spring with a distorted sequin Kim and Kanye on a sweatshirt. Ashish is all like you say why? I say why the hell not? In the words of his shirt, HI HATER.
If you took the hats from Balenciaga Spring ’12 and mixed them with Snoopy, you’d get J.W. Anderson SS15 (and I mean that as a compliment, believe it or not).
Although you’ll have to wait until May 2015 to get it, Christopher Kane announced his collaboration with NARS, which debuted at his show just last week. I’m curious to see where designer/cosmetics collaborations will go…will they continue like the Target and H&M collabs or will these designers eventually come out with their own makeup collections? All I know is that May 2015 can’t come soon enough (although it’s the month I’ll be getting another year older and I’ve already told you how I feel about that).
And it’s not London Fashion Week without Burberry, who was all about color this season. Like a lot of it.
And did not skimp on the sneakers (although there was a large chunk of the show where the models wore all white sneakers…they always prevail).
