There’s something about men’s clothing that we love…the t-shirts are softer, everything’s a bit big on us (which leaves more room for dessert), and for some reason it feels extra cool to mix in a bit of menswear into our lady closets. But we can’t borrow everything from the boys…
With men’s fashion week going on right now, I thought it would be the perfect time to talk about menswear, which I very rarely do here on CCF (as it doesn’t excite me all that much, although I do love some of the simpler pieces for my own wardrobe).
When it comes to the men’s shows, there’s a few routes the collections can go (also depends a lot on the designer and their aesthetic). It can go super feminine, making it quite easy to incorporate into our current wardrobes…although I don’t totally understand how this top is a piece of menswear in the first place (re: Gucci Fall 2015).
It can go classic, where you might take some inspiration from the collection but aren’t literally buying a men’s suit to wear to your next black tie event (re: Tom Ford).
I enjoy the classic styles that would look good on any guy…and even any girl (re: Prada).
There’s also a few collections that will incorporate a piece here and there, where I feel like I can’t live without it (or at least a similar version in women’s, if it exists).
Like this Marc Jacobs coat.
Or this Burberry Prorsum bomber.
Or really this guy’s entire outfit.
Now I can’t recommend you only buy men’s clothing from now on, especially considering it gets difficult when it comes to bottoms (although that really depends on your body type and the cut of that specific designer). But for designers who create a lot of unisex clothing (or garments that appear to be unisex), it’s nice to mix it up a bit and play with menswear. Plus, when styled correctly, it gives an extra effortless look that you just can’t copy with womenswear. Just keep in mind when literally “borrowing from the boys” be sure to consider proportions. We love our guys’ sweaters and t-shirts but if you’re going to hijack his closet, wear your own pants, perhaps dress it up with some heeled ankle boots. Of course, if you’re just lounging around your house and your only plans for the day involve Netflix and Grubhub, then you can really go for it in the male sweatpants / t-shirt / sweatshirt categories.
So whether you’re just taking some inspiration from the menswear shows…
Or you actually enjoy buying menswear, we can all use a little manspiration in our wardrobes, right? Wrong? You tell me.
But if you do enjoy guy stuff, here’s a few things that us ladies can rock (and they probably look better on us anyway…)

I love her shoes in the last pic, I would definitely bring that kind of menswear into my wardobe
