Swimwear is one of those topics I’ve only discussed a few times here on CCF, as let’s be honest…does anyone actually enjoy shopping for bathing suits? Unless you’re a Victoria’s Secret model, this category of shopping can be daunting. But I think I’ve found a way to make it a little less…intimidating.
Actually I didn’t find a way, it’s a way that’s always been around…just more popular now than it has been in the past. The one piece swimsuit is something your parents always wanted you to wear but you never did. Showing off more skin (regardless of how comfortable or uncomfortable you are with that) meant more sun which equates to TAN which means GOOD…right?
I think Tan Mom may have ruined all sorts of bronzing for me, as I used to love getting tan and now I’m SPFing hard everyday and very rarely going out of my way to “lay out.” (and who has the time, really?)
Now I’m Greek and Italian so getting color isn’t difficult for me, which can be a good thing or a bad thing. I was never an SPF freak until the last four or five years, as I never really burned so I didn’t think about it. Until I’m like “oh this can protect against skin cancer and wrinkles…two things I do not want…let’s kick this up to 40, shall we?” But this post isn’t about skin care or SPF. I digress. It’s about how I don’t care about tanning anymore and one piece swimsuits are much cooler than bikinis…so it’s time to rock one.
Now I’m not all that into the one-pieces with a million cut outs, see through panels and are probably worn by someone who pairs said swimwear with platform heels by the pool (which is one of my many fashion nightmares). There are so many awesome one-piece wonders out there right now that there’s no reason you shouldn’t have at least ONE as part of your swimwear collection, regardless of where you live.
What’s especially great about one-pieces is that, depending on the style, they can also double as a bodysuit (yay for twofers!)
What’s extra fantastic about swimwear season (and fashion in general) is that all the warm weather stuff goes on sale, around the time when we can finally start enjoying them in Chicago. It’s a win-win, really.
I already rounded up some of my favorite one-pieces you can buy right now (see below) but for future references, if you’re looking for any awesome swimwear (even if it’s not a one-piece, although I still think you should give it a go!) check out my favorite Aussie brands We Are Handsome (pictured above) and Zimmermann (who I have raved about before), Lisa Marie Fernandez (sort of retro meets sporty meets Americana type of vibe), Solid & Striped (does a great job with really simple designs), and if you just want to have fun with your swimwear, Wildfox and Filles à Papa are always a good choice.

I’m so glad one pieces are in, I am tired of thumbing through granny racks for an attractive one piece. Short torsoed girls look terrible in bikinis, no matter how skinny we are. Love this post, bookmarking it!
