Prom: The Past & The Future

Feeling inspired by WhoWhatWear’s prom post earlier this week, I decided to do a little prom feature of my own. Granted most proms are probably over and I don’t know anyone in high school anymore, I’d like to take this opportunity to show a little blast from the past. Yes, it’s what I wore to prom…

With my best friend Jennifer, who is still my best friend if you were wondering.

The most full body shot I could find.

Fun fact: The designer of the dress, Tamsen, I’m unfamiliar with but I did get it at Helen Yi on Damen in Bucktown…before it was really “Bucktown.”

Now for what I’d wear to prom today? If money were no object, I’d have to go with Katherine Power on this one and say Prabal Gurung. If I was going for a short option I would say Spring ’12…

Photobucket

But if I felt like going the extra mile (and pretending I’m at the Met Ball) I’d go with Fall ’12…

And just in case you happen to be in high school (or just want to relive your prom days) here are some current options that are perfectly prom appropriate.

PhotobucketGryphon Fete Dress

If you’re going to go short, this is the way to do it.

White doesn’t always work well at prom but this would be killer.

PhotobucketHaute Hippie flutter Sleeve Lace Dress

Perfect with gold vintage jewelry for a boho vibe.

PhotobucketONE by Contrarian Babs Bibb Maxi Dress

Sometimes the solid color dresses (especially when shiny) can look tacky, but this is the way to do a solid color at prom. Fun yet tasteful.

Imitation Theda Applique Dress

I love that this appears simple at first but the detailing around the neck and arms really make it special. Would be perfect with edgy heels (like the ones shown above…or anything studded Valentino).

If you were to go to prom now, what would you wear?

The Most Popular Blogger Arm Candy For Spring

I was very excited to see the other day that this accessories photo made it to StyleCaster‘s feature about the most popular blogger arm candy for spring!

Being the accessories-obsessed person that I am, it’s an honor to be featured alongside some of my favorite bloggers like Sincerely, Jules and Atlantic-Pacific.

Ikram’s Crash The Gala After Party

Friday night I attended the Crash The Gala After Party, hosted by Ikram Goldman, which celebrated the Roy Lichtenstein exhibition at the Art Institute.

From the food and decor to the music and company, I couldn’t have asked for a better night! Ikram had a make-your-own sundae bar (2 to be exact), hot dog stands, popcorn machines, pizza pass-arounds, and so much more. She even took on the roll of MC for the night (which was beyond amazing by the way). Take a look at some of my photos from the party…

Happy Mother’s Day!

To all those who are moms, moms-to-be or just have really awesome moms…Happy Mother’s Day! I happen to be in the “those with awesome moms” category so I just wanted to take this opportunity to dedicate a blog post to my # 1 supporter–my mom!

Before she was a mom….(at her 8th grade graduation)

Speaking of graduation, here’s me with my parents at my high school graduation (taken with a FILM camera #oldschool)

Super random fact about me: my mom and I were extras in a movie called Powder Blue. This is where the scene was filmed in LA.

A special thanks to my mom for sucking it up at the crappy bars in college during parents weekend. This picture was taken at one of the nicer ones (which isn’t even that nice…)

College graduation with my parents (and the only time you’ll ever see me in a shiny red garment).

That’s all. Love you mom!
