There’s only one week left of fashion month and as things go in life, they save the best for last. Paris Fashion Week is now in full swing but there’s a lot more to Paris than their fabulous fashion. One word — croissant.
Today is all about Paris and to quote something you all probably have Pinned to at least one board on Pinterest, Paris is always a good idea…
Although the streets look extra stylish during fashion week, there’s something that us Americans just love about French girls. It’s not just their effortless style but really just the way they go about life. So I thought I’d relive those four and a half days I spent in Paris last September (even though it’s not Throwback Thursday…sorry, I just couldn’t wait until tomorrow), as well as predict what shows will be the most talked about this Paris Fashion Week.
Between the pastries and the shopping, there’s just something about Paris…
…like their home decor stores. I’ve really never come across more fantastic chotchkies in my life than I have in Paris. They’re quirky, they’re fun…and that is why I love them. If you don’t appreciate a red monkey giving you the finger than you don’t know how to live.
Yes we all think brie and bread when we think of Paris (which of course I am always SO down for both, regardless of what city I’m in) but did you ever think falafel? Fortunately and unfortunately I had the best falafel of my life in Paris. Fortunately because it was damn delicious and unfortunately because I haven’t found anything comparable since.
Okay now let’s get to the bread.
And cheese! This was my last meal in Paris…a couple of baguettes and some brie in the park. Then I get sad thinking to myself…WHY ISN’T THIS MY LIFE EVERYDAY?
Shopping…pretty self explanatory (and no I was not the one who broke into Colette).
I like French Macarons but I don’t love them as much as everyone’s Instagrams make me think I should. But I just felt like I should include these to keep my street cred.
Although there are many designers and brands I love for various reasons, my favorite thing about Balmain are the prices (although the store in Paris is pretty badass…I like to call it the Balmain museum). I don’t know when I’ll ever be able to afford a $10k mini skirt but I know when I can, Balmain is the first place I’ll go. Fun fact: a hobby of mine is to look at Balmain on The Outnet. Only in the world of Olivier Rousteing is $2,500 a steal.
Continuing in the fashion direction, Kendall Jenner made headlines by walking in Givenchy earlier this year. Although she walked in a few other shows previous to that, it was a big deal because it was Paris Fashion Week (the black truffle of fashion weeks) and of course the whole Kardashian / Kanye / Riccardo bff-ness…it only made sense this would happen. And I wouldn’t be surprised to see her walk in the Spring ’15 show this weekend.
If you want to know what every blogger and editor will be wearing the next season (but not when it comes out to the public…that would actually be so last season), you can always look to Celine. Especially when it comes to the accessories.
Leave it to Kenzo for a little humor amongst the fashion week SERIOUSNESS. Also a good one to look to if you want to get a sense of the “it” accessories for next spring.
Is it just me or do you too sometimes forget Alexander Wang is designing for Balenciaga? I guess I still haven’t fully adjusted. Maybe by spring ’16. Maybe.
One designer I only learned about a few years ago, and I’ve been quite a fan ever since, is Cédric Charlier. Although my personal Cédric collection has not yet extended beyond a black and white t-shirt (seen here), I’ll be following SS15 closely to see if garment number two will be making an appearance in my wardrobe any time in the near future.
For fall, it was all about glitter boots. GLITTER BOOTS I TELL YOU! How can you top that? Hedi, you have big [and sparkly] shoes to fill for spring (although those shoes are technically his own).
Paris isn’t Paris without a little (okay fine, a lot of) Chanel. Karl always goes all out for his runway backdrops. He really won me over with the whole supermarket thing for fall (because if food is in the name, I’m game) so I can’t wait to see what Karl’s getting himself into for the new collection.
