The best part about those “in-between” seasons (meaning Resort and Pre-Fall) is that the looks tend to me a little more approachable / relatable, rather than their Spring / Fall counterparts. Because we still have quite some time before we can actually buy these pieces next year, why not take some styling notes and try the looks right now? What I like to call the PRE Pre-Fall…
So yeah. That’s what we’re doing today, friends. If you’re in a style rut or just want to be ahead of the trends…here’s 7 ideas to get your fashion juices flowing.
Try it: Yellow
Re: Victoria Beckham
Why: Yellow is tough, I realize. It’s probably the most difficult color to wear, outside of orange. And when it comes in this bright hue, you’re probably thinking BIG BIRD…and that is not an incorrect thought BUT if you’re willing to take a fashion risk and you trust my favorite Spice Girl, then give it a go!
Try it: Tan monochromatic separates
Re: Calvin Klein Collection
Why: If you want to look like Gigi Hadid or pretty much anyone Monica Rose styles, then THIS is the look for you. The best part about this is that there’s so many shades you can choose from (so you can find one that best complements your hair / skin) and once you find the right hue, the possibilities are endless!
Try it: Socks with Mary-Janes
Re: Missoni
Why: It’s a little vintage school girl but when paired with an edgy, cool outfit…it’s actually an awesome, unexpected contrast.
Try it: Lace tunic with wide leg trousers
Re: Jonathan Simkhai
Why: This is the 2015 (technically 2016) version of a dress-with-pants. For a while we saw a lot of shift dresses paired with straight leg trousers. Now it’s time to take it to the next level with THIS dress / pants combo.
Try it: Turtleneck under a dress
Re: Diane von Furstenberg
Why: Sort of in the same theme as socks with Mary-Janes — this can come off like your mom made you put on a shirt under your dress because it wasn’t appropriate enough for church or school — BUT if the dress you choose is funky enough and not super conservative on its own, a turtleneck will not only keep you extra warm…but also make you super ahead of the trends for Pre-Fall ’16.
Try it: Updated fur / faux fur vest
Re: Coach
Why: Coach has really been KILLING IT lately…and just when I think their outerwear can’t get any better, it somehow does! I’m typically not a huge fan of fur vests because they can come off very Rachel Zoe circa 2008 as well as…well…basic…but one with a twist like this one by Coach completely changes my mind.
Try it: Bra top with a cardigan
Re: Alexander Wang
Why: Definitely the most risqué of today’s bunch, I do happen to enjoy any fashion pairing with a contrast. Whether it’s color, style, texture, etc…I dig it. And wearing something as revealing as a bra top with something contrastive like a cardigan is just the juxtaposition your look needs! (six pack abs not included)

That’s all for now. But there are still plenty of Pre-Fall ’16 collections to come! Do you have any favorite looks from the collections so far? Any looks you’d like to try?
