My favorite types of trends are the ones that are hardly trends at all — rather just a classic piece that happens to show up several times on the runway during one season. And the theme that defines this category for Fall 2014? It’s shear genius, if you ask me…
SHEARLING, FRIENDS. It’s shearling…get it?
This might sound strange because shearling is quite modest and very practical but I’ve never cared for it. I can’t put my finger on the reason but I made my decision and I thought I’d stick to it. That is, until now. When I was shopping in Europe (especially in Amsterdam and Berlin) I found myself so attracted to all these shearling pieces. And I was all like where the hell is this coming from? I only ended up taking home one piece (a shearling Avelon sweatshirt…with rose gold zippers might I add) but I have a feeling this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
And it’s not just shearling coats that are happening for FW14. Bags, shoes, hats, you name it…and with word on the street that this winter is going to be just as bad as last, the timing for all this “trend” is spot on.
Although designers like Anthony Vaccarello, Burberry Prorsum and Reed Krakoff (pictured above) make shearling look extra chic, there’s a ton of other [insert two thumbs up emojis here] options that won’t cost you five digits (even some faux shearling if you prefer).
Any favorites from below? Are you into shearling? Am I crazy for ever hating on it in the first place? As Taylor Swift says, haters gonna hate [hate hate hate hate]…
