I mentioned last week I have a lot to say in the summer essentials category…and I wasn’t kidding. Yes, it’s about leather shorts, printed shorts suits, white clutches, crop tops, cut-out oxfords and statement sunglasses, but we can’t forget about…
Oxfords aren’t the only cut-outs I’m feelin’ this summer…what about a cut-out dress? When you choose one of the looser variety (you know how I like it), it feels so effortless. However, if you decide to go with a cut-out bandage dress, effortless isn’t exactly the first word that comes to mind. So keep it classy, stay cool and show a little skin…if you dare.
In the summer I tend to walk a lot more, even when I’m out at night, so comfortable shoes are a must. You can do a wedge or even dressy sandals but I’m all about chunky heels. These are tough because finding a good heel height and the right amount of “chunk” isn’t easy. If you go too low it can look orthopedic and too high you can look like a hooker, so stick with something like this and you’re golden.
I used to be so against any jeans that weren’t dark-wash because anything lighter just didn’t look good on my legs. But once I found the perfect loose-fitting light-colored denim, I was hooked. I’m not sure why you’d ever want to wear skinny jeans when it’s 90 degrees outside so a boyfriend style (even better with some holes…for ventilation of course) is ideal.
I’m guilty of being one of those people who always carried a huge bag. Once I became obsessed with the clear 3.1 Phillip Lim mini Pashli last year (seen here), I was hooked on mini bags. It feels kind of refreshing to be able to carry such an edited number of things everyday to be quite honest. All you need is the right size wallet and trust me, you can make it work.
I already discussed yesterday how much I despise shopping for swimsuits…but I happened to find some pretty good options. Just continuing the conversation today with the importance of having a stylish swimsuit for summer. Just because you want to get a little tan doesn’t mean you can’t still look fashionable. And going along with this theme…
I mentioned yesterday how much I love We Are Handsome for swimsuits but I also love them for a fun cover-up. I’m totally guilty of wearing a t-shirt and shorts when I don’t have a good cover-up (sometimes an old sundress if I’m feeling fancy) so I need to take my own advice and get on this.
And for more summer essentials…
