Red Carpet Fashion: Best Dressed at the 2010 Emmy Awards

What did you think of the Emmys last night? Did you agree with who won? Do you even care? Let’s get to the important part…the clothes. I like to celebrate who got it right (and who almost did) but we won’t dwell on any WTF moments. We can save that for E! Fashion Police tonight 🙂

And the nominees for best dressed…

Claire Danes in Armani Privé

Normally, I am not one for simplicity. Although this dress may not seem simple due to the sequins and sparkle, it’s a simple color and silhouette therefore I deem it quite simple. However, I think she looks absolutely stunning. The gown fits her perfectly, her hair has a little something going on but not too much and her makeup is perfection. She could have gone a little more with the makeup, possibly a pop of color on the lip, but overall she had a great night and she totally rocked that dress.

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta

I know Lea has already had a black ODLR moment (see my Golden Globes post) but this one definitely tops it. It’s difficult to do black on the red carpet because the exquisite detailing of the gown doesn’t always show, but Lea totally rocked this look. Although I’m a huge fan of Oscar, his gowns can be a little “serious” which is why I love the playfulness and youthful look of her hair and makeup; it perfectly balances the entire look. Plus, how fabulous is that necklace? Bravo Lea/Lea’s stylist!

Nina Dobrev in Zuhair Murad

So most people know this chick from some vampire show I don’t watch and I just found out five minutes ago she’s not the teacher Dan was hooking up with on Gossip Girl. So basically I don’t really know who she is…but she’s gorgeous and that gown looks amazing on her. It’s a simple color with gorgeous detailing and I am obsessed with the neckline…it looks like a strapless top with a draped one shoulder and I absolutely love it. The hair and makeup is elegant and it brings the entire look together.

————————

Like I said before, I must give credit to those who almost made it but because I’m picky, I just cannot get myself to put them on the actual Best Dressed List. Maybe next year ladies…

Maria Menounos in a custom-made Ralph & Russo

I wanted this to be best dressed so badly but I just couldn’t get myself to do it. I had to get a front and back shot of this one. This dress is custom made (with over 15,00 Swarovski crystals might I add) and don’t get me wrong, it is a gorgeous gown. BUT I do not like how the open back cuts into the front. I am all for an open back…it’s actually one of my favorite things to see on the red carpet…but I am not for side cut-outs in a dress and that’s the effect you get when looking at this gown from the front. That is the only complaint I have. Otherwise, it is a gorgeous dress and it fits her like a glove.

January Jones in Versace

There’s a lot of I have to say about this look. Let’s start off with the main reason why January gets into this post…I applaud her for taking a risk. This gown is a big risk for both silhouette AND color. The style kind of reminds me of the Atelier Versace gown Anne Hathaway wore to the premier of Rachel Getting Married…which I loved by the way (not the movie, the gown). The combination of the bold color AND the bold style (with the RED carpet) is just too much. I think this dress is more appropriate for editorial. The vibrant blue and the bright red of the carpet is a little to patriotic for me…all we need now is January waving a white flag.

————————

Well that’s enough out of me…how about you? Who were your best dressed picks at the Emmys? I would love to hear from you!

Red Carpet Fashion: Best Dressed at the 2010 Met Gala

The Met Gala is one of the biggest events the year where the stars get all dressed up, walk the red carpet and this year they celebrated the opening of the “American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity” exhibition. I was a little disappointed I didn’t see more risk-taking with last night’s fashion choices, but it’s a very formal event and I understand why most people dressed more conservitavely.

I have two lists for you today…those who got it 100% right and those who almost got it…but the look as a whole just didn’t make the cut. Hope you like what I have to say…and if you don’t, it’s okay…let it out in the comments section 🙂

Here are thost who really blew me away…

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

I’m not the biggest JLo fan but I don’t think this list would be complete without her on it. Look at that dress…it’s absolutely breathtaking! The detailing is so beautiful and it fits her perfectly…very flattering. Her accessories are minimal (as they should be because the dress is a lot in itself), her hair looks gorgeous and her makeup is flawless. Bravo JLo!

Emma Roberts in Marni

Definitely a very different look than JLo but I love it just as much. Although it’s more on the conservative end, I think she made the short dress look classy and elegant yet she funked it up with those stellar Marni shoes. Her hair is pulled back and simple to showcase the beautiful ruffles on the neckline and her minimal makeup is absolutely gorgeous. Well done Emma!

Blake Lively in Marchesa

First of all, let’s face it…Blake Lively is GORGEOUS and can rock just about anything she wears. Second of all…this color blue is one of my favorite colors ever…so I obviously love this dress. If you haven’t seen the Marchesa Fall 2010 collection, it’s a must. I even dedicated an entire blog post to it…AND this blue dress was one of my favorites from the collection (see my Marchesa blog post here). Blake definitely made this super short dress work. I love it paired with those lace Louboutins and her overall hair and makeup is gorgeous (as always).

Marion Cotillard in Dior

Three words: Old. Hollywood. Glamour. From the hair and makeup to the gorgeous sparkling Dior gown…it’s all Old Hollywood…and I love every second of it. It all works! What more can I say? Stunning.

A tribute to those who almost got it right…

Sarah Jessica Parker in Halston

When I first looked at this, I thought she would for sure make my best dressed list. Her hair and makeup is gorgeous…and they totally complement the dress…but that bow/flower thing in her hair really isn’t doing it for me. The dress is amazing (what a fabulous color!) but I’m not sure if it does wonders for her figure. Sorry SJP! I’m sure you look great in SATC2…

Charlotte Gainsbourg in Balenciaga

I really just put her in here because I love this dress, the shoes are killer, but I hate them together…and her hair looks like she just woke up. But how amazing are those shoes?

Chloe Sevigny in Proenza Schouler

I give Chloe props for taking a risk…I think if anyone else wore this, I would scorn them for it but she really pulled it off. I love it paired with those shoes but when she turned around…I hated the back. Sorry Chloe…you were so close!

Anne Hathaway in Valentino

First off…doesn’t she look skinnier than usual? That was my first obsevation. My second observation was…hasn’t she worn a nude strapless gown with a large sparkly tulle before? My third obsevation was…yes, yes she has. Then I decided that she looks really pretty but it’s been done…we need more from you Anne! I also think the look would have been more “together” if her hair were up in an elegant ‘do.

——————————

So after my rants, raves, and praises…who are your picks for best dressed of the night? What did you think of mine? Anyone you loved and wasn’t on here? I want to hear from you!

Red Carpet Fashion: Best Dressed at the 2010 Grammy Awards

So as you all know, the Grammys were last night. Not only was it a night of music, but a night of glamour. The best thing about the Grammys is that, unlike the Oscars or the Golden Globes, there is an opportunity to have more fun with your outfit and take a little more risk. Overall, I was underwhelmed by the risk-taking last night. The biggest fashion risk-takers, Lady Gaga and Rihanna, looked fabulous but I was expecting a lot more out of them. Lady Gaga took on the Red Carpet in a solar-system-looking Armani Privé gown holding a large spiky prop (very fitting for the Armani Privé Spring 2010 Couture show ). Rihanna came out in a long white Elie Saab gown with feathers along the front of the bodice and an open back. I would have actually liked the dress on a different celebrity if the feathers weren’t coming all the way up her neck, but for Rihanna, it wasn’t daring enough…especially for the Grammys.

Okay now it’s time for my best dressed list. Let’s keep in mind that I found most of these get-ups almost perfect but I found something wrong with just about everyone. I just wasn’t that satisfied with the overall fashion at the Grammys but here are my favorites of the night. Also keep in mind that because the fashion at the Grammys is meant to be a little more playful and fun (yet risky), these are either outfits people loved or they hated. These are the ones I loved….

#5: Beyonce Knowles in Stephane Rolland

First off, I think the color of this dress looks great on Beyonce. It complements her skintone very well and the detailing is unbelievable. The one downfall of the dress is that you cannot appreciate the detailing by just seeing it on TV or in a photo. You really have to look closely to see all of the work that went into that dress. I’m also not sure if it’s Grammy appropriate because it’s a little dressy but that’s my opinion. I also HATE the earrings with the dress. But…she did a great job simplifying her hair to balance the complexity of the dress and she obviously looks gorgeous as always. The dress is absolutely gorgeous so it had to make my best dressed list.

#4: Taylor Swift in Kaufman Franco

Unrelated to the dress (and despite the fact that I hate country music) I think Taylor Swift is adorable. I know a lot of people are bothered by her, which I can see, but after seeing all the same alcoholic, fame-crazed people in Hollywood over and over again, I find her quite refreshing. She truly appreciates her fans and loves making music which I think is just wonderful. Back to the dress…I love everything that sparkles so she definitely grabbed my attention. I thought it was Grammy-appropriate, especially because she was nominated (numerous times may I add), the neckline was pretty cool and the back was quite striking as well. I really liked her hair pulled back a little to the side; it was very old-Hollywood, which I love. Overall, I think she looked very pretty but I felt like there was a little something missing. Can’t think of what…but something. She looked a little too skinny so that might have something to do with it. If you have a suggestion, let me know!

#3: Fergie in Emilio Pucci

Obviously this dress shows off Fergie’s body, which she can get away with because her body ROCKS. I love that color blue and I think it looks great with her skintone. I really like the silver going across the front because I love the contrast of that color blue with the metallic silver. It’s also a little space-like (just like Lady Gaga but she was VERY space-like). The dress was a little too short and tight for my taste but if you really hard for a body like that, you gotta show it off!

———————————————————————

#2: Heidi Klum in Emilio Pucci

It’s hard for someone so beautiful with such an amazing body like Heidi Klum to look bad in anything. She is always smiling and her skin is constantly glowing and radiant. I liked that she simplified her hair and makeup because there was a lot of sparkle in the dress. Again, I love anything that sparkles and I really like short dresses with long sleeves (although I wasn’t a fan of Miley Cyrus in Herve Leger) especially when you have great legs like Heidi. She totally rocked this look and I absolutely adore her.

#1: Lea Michele in Romona Keveza

HELLO LEGS! Where have those been? YOU GO LEA MICHELE! She looked so fabulous I literally had to rewind when watching the Red Carpet to get another look. Wow. The dress wasn’t too complex but it fit her perfectly. I love the sheerness at the top and the feathered bottom. It hugs her waist so perfectly and makes her look tiny (in a good way) and the one-shoulder does wonders for her arms. Her hair and makeup are both gorgeous. There is not one thing I can find wrong with this look (except maybe she could have done a funner shoe but I’m still satisfied with the ones she chose) and a big shout out to Lea who has made my best dressed list 3 times in a row. Woo hoo!

———————————————————————

I also have to mention Carrie Underwood and Keri Hilson.  Carrie Underwood wore a dress by Georges Chakra which I found was a little boring but I thought the neckline quite interesting. She also always looks gorgeous so I can’t finish the post without a little Carrie shoutout. Same name, different spelling… Keri Hilson was looking smashing in Dolce & Gabbana but I thought the sequin belt looked a little cheap and the top of the dress was a little too tight. Otherwise, the color looked great on her and I love the mermaid silhouette.

So, who are your best dressed picks for the Grammys? Least favorite dresses? I think there will be a lot of controversy over some looks so I really want to hear what you all think!

Red Carpet Fashion: Best Dressed at the 2010 Golden Globes

Everyone has their own opinion of who was best and worst dressed of the night. Although there were some dresses that were not my favorite, I would rather write about my favorites…and I want to hear what you think too!

Here are my picks for the best dressed of the night at the 2010 Golden Globes. Note, this is in no particular order.

Kate Hudson in Marchesa:

It’s difficult to ever put a Marchesa gown on the worst dressed list. The color is simply white but the structure slightly complex with a sculptured look, like most Marchesa gowns. Kate totally rocked it (and she was styled by Rachel Zoe) which is why she made my best dressed list.

Zoe Saldana in Louis Vuitton:

People either loved this dress or they hated it. I, for one, am a lover of this Louis Vuitton masterpiece. I think the color looks great on her skin tone and she can actually pull off a strapless dress with her body type, unlike a few Golden Globes attendees that will remain nameless. [Girls, if your boobs are bigger than a D, please don’t wear strapless things. Thank you.] Anyways, I love the ruffles and textures of this amazing Louis Vuitton gown, which is why it makes my best dressed list.

Jennifer Garner in Atelier Versace:

My jaw dropped when I saw Jennifer Garner walk down the red carpet. This dress is absolutely stunning. It fits her perfectly and she looks gorgeous wearing it. I love the asymmetry in the front and I wish I had a picture of the back because it was my favorite part of the dress. I can’t find one online so if anyone does find a picture of the back of this fabulous dress, please let me know. I love Jen Garner, she’s one of Rachel Zoe’s clients, and she totally rocked this Atelier Versace gown…this is why she’s on my best dressed list.

Olivia Wilde in Gucci:

Another jaw-dropping gown. Olivia Wilde is already gorgeous with her dark hair and piercing blue eyes, but throw on this sparkling Gucci dress with a plunging neckline and you have perfection. The best part about this dress is that after the Golden Globes, she is auctioning it off and all of the money will go directly to helping Haiti. Stunning dress, beautiful woman, and a philanthropist? This is why Olivia wilde made my best dressed list.

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta:

Let’s just say I’m a little biased because Glee is one of the greatest shows on television 🙂 but Lea Michele really took a risk by wearing this Cinderella-like gown and she totally rocked it. It wasn’t too over the top because it was all black, the sweetheart necklace corset top fit her perfectly, and the feather-like bottom detail is so beautiful. I love anything Oscar de la Renta does, I think Lea Michele is great, and Glee is awesome…which is why Lea made my best dressed list.

So ladies [and gentlemen if you read this], what do you think? Do you agree with my picks? Who were your favorites? Least favorites? I want to know. Leave me your twitter name and I will retweet your responses!
