Red Carpet Fashion: 2012 SAG Awards (Part 2)

You know I can never get away with just one red carpet blog post for major awards shows. So be sure to check out part 1, including a few of my best dressed picks for the night, and now to wrap things up…here’s part 2.

Red Carpet Fashion: 2012 SAG Awards (Part 1)

Did you watch the SAG awards last night? If not, you didn’t miss anything…and plus you have me to give you all the red carpet dish. So I just saved you 4 hours…you’re welcome.

I really wish someone would work a print on the red carpet because everyone either does a solid color and it’s kinda boring or a pale skin tone color that’s super boring. However, I didn’t hate everyone’s look so let’s start judging…

Red Carpet Fashion: Art Of Elysium Gala

Although not an awards show, the Art of Elysium Gala brings out many A-list celebs and just as fabulous dresses. As always though, not all of the looks were a hit so let’s take a gander at the red carpet arrivals from the 2012 Art of Elysium Gala.

Photobucket Rachel Bilson in Chanel

When I see this dress I immediately think of Elle Fanning but Rachel really pulls this off (but seriously…what can’t she pull off?)

Photobucket Molly Sims in Marchesa

When it comes to these types of gowns, it’s easy to go too literal with the whole “Grecian” theme so I’m not a huge fan of the braid. However, I always like to give the pregnant ladies a break when it comes to the red carpet and Molly looks stunning.

Photobucket Minky Kelly in Oscar de la Renta

A bright gown done right…I love everything about this! We’ll be seeing lots more yellow on the red carpet this season. You wait and see…

Photobucket Kirsten Dunst in Valentino

Too conservative for my taste. This needs to be on Florence Welch.

Photobucket Kelly Osbourne in Guishem

I love her but her red carpet choices are either a huge hit or absolutely terrible. This one is on the terrible side. Drab colors, unflattering bodice and I still can’t get over the hair.

Photobucket Julianne Hough in KaufmanFranco

Always a bore on the red carpet. Always.

Photobucket January Jones in Chanel

I can’t tell if this would be really great with better shoes, or still just so-so. As is…not a fan. Love the sleeves though.

Photobucket Jamie King in Valentino

This is similar to my commentary about Molly Sims in Marchesa, except replace “Grecian” with “Renaissance” and there’s no forgiveness because she’s not pregnant.

Photobucket Camilla Belle in Carolina Herrera

I don’t love this dress but Camilla still looks fierce. Remember what I said about yellow this season?

Photobucket Brittany Snow in Catherine Deane

I like the unexpected pairing of the green earrings with the coral dress. She looks cute, but the dress seems a little long (which is much more obvious on a petite girl like her).

Photobucket Amber Heard in Donna Karan

The whole bombshell look  is so not my thing but WOW…this is “bombshell” done right. The dress fits perfectly, the hair is amazing, I love the red lipstick…and the girl knows how to pose on the red carpet!

Red Carpet Fashion: 2012 Golden Globes (Part 1)

Wow there were a lot of great celebrities at the Golden Globes tonight, right? You know what that means…LOTS of dresses to judge. There were quite a few trends on the red carpet including canary yellow, dark teal, blush tones (most of which were extremely unflattering by the way) and surprisingly…headbands. Were there any trends you were a big fan of?

While you ponder that question…here’s part 1 of the red carpet fashion from the 2012 Golden Globes.

Photobucket Jessica Alba in Gucci

Styled by the one and only Brad Goreski, I thought Jessica looked gorgeous in Gucci. Can you believe she just had a kid? I don’t know how celebs do it. They’re definitely magical creatures like that. Although the dress is a safe choice for the red carpet, you can’t deny that she looks amazing.

Photobucket Zooey Deschanel in custom Prada

This is just so hard for me to make a decision on. I love the idea of the dress and most of it is fantastic, however the lace around the neck and that awful hair is really throwing me off. Would love to get your opinion about this…

Photobucket Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta

I’m always hoping Tina will wear something decent on the red carpet, and for her this is….fine. I don’t know whoever said ruching is flattering because I’ve always hated it, and combined with the ruffles here it’s just not her dress.

Photobucket Tilda Swinton in Haider Ackerman

You know those things that “fashion people get” but the general public just seems confused about? I’m usually one of the people who gets it, but when it comes to Tilda Swinton…I don’t.

Photobucket Stacy Keibler in Valentino

Such a safe choice, it almost bores me. But she’s so beautiful it just bores me a little.

Photobucket Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang

This is probably my favorite dress she’s ever worn on the red carpet. THIS is her silhouette and it’s definitely her color too. The texture at the bottom is amazing (and surprisingly photographs well) and this was obviously custom because it fits her absolutely perfectly.

Photobucket Shailene Woodley in Marchesa

Shailene, this is NOT your silhouette (mostly meaning strapless is not your friend).

Photobucket Sarah Michelle Gellar in Monique Lhuillier

Of ALL the dresses you have to choose from…THIS is what you go with. She said her kid picked it out for her (and clearly this child will not have a future in fashion) so hopefully she learns NEVER to listen to children again (at least when it comes to an outfit choice).

Photobucket Sarah Hyland in vintage Dolce & Gabbana

Was not loving the nude trend on the red carpet (mostly because it blended in with just about everyone’s skin tone) but in this case, Sarah does have a glow and it’s nice to have the black lace to break it up. She looks pretty but I’m not WOWed.

Photobucket Rooney Mara in Nina Ricci Pre-Fall 2012

She’s just been killing it on the red carpet lately so I really expected to be blown away. It’s definitely true to her style and she looks amazing, but I just hoped to see something a little more exciting.

Photobucket Reese Witherspoon in Zac Posen

Love her. Not in love with the dress. Pretty forgettable…especially because it blends in with the carpet.

Photobucket Piper Perabo in Theyskens’ Theory Spring 2012

When I first saw this, I hated it. The more angles I looked at, the easier it was to come to this conclusion; great dress, wrong girl. I think she would have looked better in the original black version but this color isn’t her friend. And if she really wanted it to be her friend, she would have had some better accessories.

Photobucket Paula Patton in Monique Lhuillier

I do appreciate color on the red carpet, but this silhouette should never be made in this color yellow. It’s just a little too much (and that’s coming from me who lives by “more is more”).

Be looking out for part 2 coming tomorrow! And don’t forget to let me know your favorites of the night.

Dresses Deserving of a Red Carpet Moment This Awards Season

Although still a few weeks away, awards season is upon us. It’s my favorite time of year, in the blogging world anyway, because if I can’t be on E! Fashion Police to make my commentary, I sure as hell am going to do it right here on ChiCityFashion instead.

These celebs can pick any dress from any collection they could possibly want, but we do tend to see mostly recent runway collections at these red carpet events. I’ve compiled my favorite red carpet ready looks from Spring ’12 that I hope to see worn by some major celebrities this coming awards season. And this is just the beginning…we still have Fall ’12 to come next month!

Photobucket

Alexander McQueen Spring 2012

This might be too avant-garde for most red carpet events–it could be better fit for the Met Ball, worn by someone who knows how to OWN a look–but this was my favorite dress from Alexander McQueen Spring ’12 and it’s too amazing not to have a red carpet moment.

Photobucket

Azzaro Spring 2012

A lot of celebrities don’t like taking the risk of wearing color on the red carpet, and often they can bore us with their skin colored bandage dresses or plain LBDs. However, this would be a great option for someone wanting to be subtly sexy without being too over-the-top.

Photobucket

Bottega Veneta Spring 2012

Now this is the completely opposite of the Azzaro number above; this is for the girl who loves to wear color. Because of the more casual nature of this dress, the color is not overpowering. Great option for something like the Independent Spirit awards.

Photobucket

Chanel Spring 2012

This dress is perfect example of simplicity making a statement. There isn’t too much going on here, but between the black detailing and the play with volume, you don’t need much else…except a kick-ass shoe of course.

Photobucket

Christian Siriano Spring 2012

I can’t tell if this would be too casual for the red carpet (I would have to see it in person) but it was my favorite look from Christian Siriano Spring ’12 and it’s definitely deserving of a red carpet moment.

Photobucket

Giambattista Valli Spring 2012

Elle Fanning…your dress is ready.

Photobucket

Jason Wu Spring 2012

I’m not a gown person, but when you make it neon I will definitely reconsider. I can see Zoe Saldana owning this look at the Oscars. Not many people could pull of this much chartreuse but I’m hoping someone [Zoe] will try!

Photobucket

Marchesa Spring 2012

Marchesa has become a staple on the red carpet and it’s because of intricate designs like this one that makes them so popular at these events. This is definitely a statement maker but it’s so gorgeous, it NEEDS to be photographed on someone fabulous.

Photobucket

Marchesa Spring 2012

Another Marchesa stunner, this one is much more toned down than their usual designs. However, if you’re a celebrity and find yourself pretty pregnant during awards season…this is YOUR dress!

Photobucket

Oscar de la Renta Spring 2012

You could find yourself on the best dressed or worst dressed list in this one…no in between. With the right styling and the right celebrity, this could definitely be done right.

Photobucket

Prabal Gurung Spring 2012

Wearing a white long dress, on a day that’s not your wedding, is not an easy thing to pull off. But with Prabal’s use of cut-outs, sheer detailing and of course that amazing slit, this is beyond perfect for the red carpet and a great canvas for a statement piece of jewelry and an amazing pair of heels.

Photobucket

Prabal Gurung Spring 2012

This is probably the biggest risk out of any of the dresses I featured here today, but it’s one of my favorite looks from any of the Spring ’12 collections and I’m dying to see someone wear this look…and wear it well. Whether it’s worn with or without the harness, the detailing here is just too gorgeous not to have a big red carpet moment.

What dresses do you hope to see on the red carpet this awards season?
