The New Resort

Resort isn’t the same as it used to be. What was originally created for wealthy jet setters to have something to wear during their winter vacation months (because what they wore to St. Barths last year simply won’t do), is now a very transitional season. We see much fewer swimsuits, caftans and fabulous floppy hats and more jackets, separates and even full on coats. So how would I describe Resort today? I’d say it’s the perfect mix of Spring and Fall. If you’re digging the black and white “trend” (I use the term trend very loosely because after all, it is black and white) for this Spring then you’ll be happy to know it’s definitely here to stay this Resort season. Pretty much every designer had at least one black and white look, and I might even like these options better than what we saw for Spring.

So, I’m going to do Resort the only way I know how…with superlatives of course.

Red Carpet Fashion: Cannes 2013 (Part 2)

Because Cannes is the red carpet that never ends (but it finally ended last week) it’s time to round up the final looks of the film festival, including the closing ceremonies and the amfAR gala. Besides the Oscars and the Met Ball of course, this is one my favorite red carpet events. The fact that it’s in France definitely brings out more fashion (maybe we should have the Oscars in Paris next year)…and I appreciate any red carpet that’s not full of sparkly strapless gowns. You know how those thrill me.

Be sure to check out part 1 (which includes Julianne Moore’s toe scandal) and now, let’s move on to part 2.

Red Carpet Fashion: Cannes 2013

Cannes is like the Oscars’ cool older [French] sister. Celebrities gather to celebrate great films, but really they just want to out-do each other in the best borrowed gowns they can find.

Now I don’t think anyone can top Diane Kruger from last year; she just killed it one look after the next. BUT I have high hopes for this year. Let’s see who’s wearing what…

Met Gala Fashion: The Not So Punk

All caught up with part 1 and part 2? Great. Grand. Fantastic.

Now let’s talk about those who missed the punk memo. I’m not saying you have to show up in a mohawk, a nose ring and everything with safety pins but you can at least acknowledge the theme. But maybe these people are so punk, they’re not going to dress punk for the punk event. Ever think of that?
