Chi City Closet: My First Chanel Bag

Yes, I have finally purchased my very first Chanel bag…I haven’t been this excited since my first PS1! Something I’ve always dreamed about, I am thrilled to have my first Chanel bag be such a unique find. A soft quilted material in a stunning royal purple color, I couldn’t ask for anything better.

Where did I find something this fabulous? I bought it on consignment from eDrop-Off. Browsing the website daily, I come across so many amazing pieces, including an always incredible selection of Chanel. I have never encountered such an amazing Chanel bag before, so I knew I had to have this one.

Red Carpet Fashion: 2011 Oscars (Part 2)

If you haven’t yet, I’d suggest reading Part 1 of my red carpet coverage for the 2011 Oscars. If you have, we can just move right along…

Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier

As I tweeted last night, Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier is just as surprising as Ryan Seacrest in Burberry. It’s hard for me to take Mandy seriously when I just think of her as the girl who sang “Candy” that I jammed out to a number of years ago, but regardless…she really does look beautiful. I love the pop of color in the lips. My only comment is that the color of the dress washes her out a bit. But overall, she looks great.

Melissa Leo in Marc Bower

Remember how awkward her acceptance speech was? It kind of reminds me of this dress. She tried, but it just didn’t work. It could be worse. It could be better. She could have worn something a little more cool and modern. I guess that’s all I can really say about this…

Michelle Williams in Chanel Spring 2011 (modified)

Thank you Michelle Williams for not wearing a floral pattern (see daisy disaster). I actually really wanted her to wear Chanel because it fits her look and many of the pieces from the most recent Spring 2011 collection would work for her. I’m glad she went with this modified version and not the original (would have given her no shape). It’s simple yet interesting. This dress fits her perfectly and I just love it. Michelle, you have redeemed yourself!

Mila Kunis Elie Saab Spring 2011 Couture

I recognized this dress immediately when she walked down the red carpet. You can’t go wrong with Elie Saab Couture on the RC. Mila looks STUNNING in this dress. This color is amazing on her. The boob pieces are a little weird but I kind of love them. I really don’t find anything wrong with this look whatsoever…PERFECT. One of my favorites from the night!

Natalie Portman in Rodarte

The BEST she has looked on the red carpet since being pregnant. I especially appreciate the ode to Rodarte. This color looks beautiful on her and the silhouette is perfect for her “bumped” shape. But why did she have to wear matchy earrings? AND shoes? You are better than that Natalie. I know it.

Nicole Kidman in Christian Dior Spring 2009 Couture

I really love this dress on the original model, but when I see it on Nicole all I can say is…Ummmm no. Too much going on here–the structure of the dress, with the embroidered detail throughout, plus a chunky necklace AND orange shoes? Oh, and side bangs? Sorry Nicole…this just is not working for me (or for you).

Reese Witherspoon in Giorgio Armani

I love Reese Witherspoon which is why I hate to bash on her…but how can you not? I wore a Jessica McClintock dress very similar to this to my homecoming dance freshman year of high school. The clip-in ponytail is something I wore for cheerleading competitions in high school. Now I know you’re totally judging my high school experience but let’s get back to judging Reese. This is just beneath her. Get her some Oscar de la Renta ASAP…

Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang

Oh Sandy, remember when you wore that stunning Marchesa gown to the Oscars last year? What’s with the down grade? First of all, I can’t even handle another red dress on this damn red carpet. Second of all, especially one that isn’t anything special. Then pair with an awkward off-color red clutch? I love you Sandy but you have disappointed me here.

Scarlett Johansson in Dolce & Gabbana

I am torn with this one. Let’s start at the top…I actually kind of love the hair. The “undoneness” of it is pretty cool. The color of the dress is ok. The dark patches over the floral lace confuse me a bit. But what confuses me the most is the exposed bra. Is that really her bra or just part of the dress? The world may never know…

So overall my best dressed picks for the night are: Mila Kunis in Elie Saab Spring 2011 Couture, Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Spring 2011 Couture, Gwyneth Paltrow in Clavin Klein (minus the brooch), and Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein. Who were yours?

On her love of fashion…
“I truly, genuinely like clothes. Making them is an art form, and wearing them is a form of self-expression. I find it very emotional because I can remember moments in my life—my mood, how I felt—through these clothes.”

On what her favorite look is…
“A well-cut dress. It’s all about the cut. I love three-quarter sleeves. I definitely like it classic; less is more. The thing I despise most is vulgarity, and there’s a lot of that here [in L.A.].”

On her biggest fashion splurge…
“The biggest fashion purchase I ever made I thought about for six years. I’m not kidding. All my life I wanted to own an Hermès Constance bag, and when I signed with Calvin Klein, I decided this was the time that I could afford it. I truly broke a sweat when I paid for it.”

On her boyfriend Joshua Jackson and his style…
“We go shopping. But he likes it. I definitely wasn’t fond of these blue sneakers that he wore all the time for about a year and a half.”

On realizing she wanted to pursue performing as a career…
“I’m from a small village [in Germany], and it never occurred to me that you could actually make a living performing. It was a hobby. I always thought you had to live in Hollywood. So the urge really came later, when I became a model.”

On marrying and divorcing when she was younger…
“Without sounding pessimistic, I learned that I don’t believe in marriage. I believe in a commitment that you make in your heart. There’s no paper that will make you stay.”

Her advice to young women pursuing their dreams…
“Ask questions. Surround yourself with people who will help you advance. You should be smart enough to know that you don’t know everything. But you have to believe in yourself. I certainly do.”

Don’t forget to pick up the March issue of Glamour magazine. Available on newsstands and digitally (iPad, iPhone, iTouch and the Barnes & Noble Nook Color) February 8.

Chanel Spring/Summer 2011

The Chanel Spring/Summer 2011 show occurred today in Paris. I wasn’t going to cover any of the overseas shows but it’s Chanel, and it’s too amazing to pass up.

Compromised of everything from gowns and shift dresses to hot pants and of course, suits, this collection did not disappoint. I love how Karl did the hot pants…the look appearing to be a classic Chanel tweed suit from the waist up, but then surprise…no pants! (well, just hot pants)

Of course there was a ton of black and white, and we must have some pastel Chanel suits for Spring, but I loved the bright color floral prints against the black. One thing I was a little confused about were the long skirts and and sweaters…there weren’t many, but still…this is the SPRING/SUMMER collection and I’m not sure if they really belong. Don’t get me wrong, these pieces were still amazing, I just didn’t think grey maxi skirts and sweaters scream SPRING…ya know?

Overall, it’s Chanel…and obviously fantastic. Check out some of my favorite looks from the collection…

Ummm how cute is this?

A floppy hat turned umbrella? Yes please…

Leather “leg warmers”…I’m down!

Only Chanel could make hot pants look this classy…

My absolute favorite look from the collection…
