When it comes to fashion, I do enjoy a challenge. Pastels in the winter, mixing prints, a sequin sweatsuit…I find these things entertaining. One challenge I’ve recently decided to take on — the dress with pants. Something typically reserved for the couture runways, this look is rarely seen on the streets. But I decided to kill two fashion challenges with one stone this week (dress with pants + headband not at a music festival) and here’s how it turned out.

After Parties Are Where It’s At
Typically, I only do a couple of red carpet posts when it comes to the Oscars (which if you haven’t checked it out yet, parts one and two are waiting for you) but because this year was pretty disappointing, I thought I’d take a look at the after party dresses. And good thing I did because they are a million times better than what most people wore to the actual ceremony. Whether it’s Elton John’s or Vanity Fair, there’s a ton of parties that go on after the Oscars and thankfully this year, celebs really brought it. Well, most of them…

Red Carpet Fashion: 2013 Oscars
Not to be a Debby Downer or anything but I was less than impressed with the Oscars last night. The fact that red carpet interviews ended an hour early on E! and I was forced to watch ABC coverage…that was not fun. And as far as the gowns go, I really was not blown away by anyone. So unfortunately, I did not have a” Gwyneth in Tom Ford moment.” However, there were still some notable looks that deserve some discussing. So let’s get to it.

Red Carpet Fashion: 2013 SAG Awards (Part 2)
Two best dressed picks announced in part 1 of my SAG Awards red carpet coverage…do you agree? Actually hold that thought, and let’s move on to part 2 first.

Red Carpet Fashion: 2012 Emmys (Part 1)
The first major awards show of the season, the Emmys, were last night. The red carpet was full of bordeux, yellow, some shamefull beaded turquoise numbers and a pleasantly surprising influx of J. Mendel.
Like I tweeted last night, I feel like with the rise of social media, the increasing popularity of red carpet coverage along with things like Fashion Police, celebrities are less willing to take a risk when it comes to these events. You would think it might have the opposite effect but let’s be honest…no one wants to be bashed on national television. So, gone are the days of Bjork’s swan dress and JLo’s extreme low cut Versace caftan….it looks like a red carpet full of ruching, jewel tones and strapless gowns is in our future for the long haul.
Now that my rant is out of the way (thanks for listening), let’s get to the judging.
