Throwback Thursday: Front Row At Fashion Week

With New York Fashion Week coming to a close but fashion month nowhere near the end, this seemed like the perfect opportunity for a fashion week themed Throwback Thursday. But even better than that, we’re going to take a look at the front row specifically — where it started, where it went, and where it is now. Let’s just say things get interesting circa 2002.

Confused? It’s Couture

A lot of people say they love fashion when they really just love shopping. And that’s cool. I guess that’s how your love begins? (although I always hated shopping, until I was introduced to Limited Too…that changed everything). However, you know a true fashion enthusiast when they can look at couture and not use the WTF emoticon (which according to its 431 Facebook fans, looks like this ಠ_ಠ)

But back to couture…

The Bling Ring

I’m not a huge movie person (considering my favorites of all time are Clueless and Mean Girls) so it’s rare when I’m absolutely dying to see a movie…and that rare occasion occurred when I heard about The Bling Ring. I got to attend an early screening last night and I’ve found myself Googling “Pretty Wild, E!” “Paris Hilton portrait pillows” and “Audrina Patridge address” (which I’m hoping now isn’t all that easy to find).

As much as I loved the movie, I want to discuss the most important part — the fashion.

The New Resort

Resort isn’t the same as it used to be. What was originally created for wealthy jet setters to have something to wear during their winter vacation months (because what they wore to St. Barths last year simply won’t do), is now a very transitional season. We see much fewer swimsuits, caftans and fabulous floppy hats and more jackets, separates and even full on coats. So how would I describe Resort today? I’d say it’s the perfect mix of Spring and Fall. If you’re digging the black and white “trend” (I use the term trend very loosely because after all, it is black and white) for this Spring then you’ll be happy to know it’s definitely here to stay this Resort season. Pretty much every designer had at least one black and white look, and I might even like these options better than what we saw for Spring.

So, I’m going to do Resort the only way I know how…with superlatives of course.

Red Carpet Fashion: Cannes 2013 (Part 2)

Because Cannes is the red carpet that never ends (but it finally ended last week) it’s time to round up the final looks of the film festival, including the closing ceremonies and the amfAR gala. Besides the Oscars and the Met Ball of course, this is one my favorite red carpet events. The fact that it’s in France definitely brings out more fashion (maybe we should have the Oscars in Paris next year)…and I appreciate any red carpet that’s not full of sparkly strapless gowns. You know how those thrill me.

Be sure to check out part 1 (which includes Julianne Moore’s toe scandal) and now, let’s move on to part 2.
