Interview With Brad Goreski

Saturday afternoon I attended Brad Goreski’s book signing at Brooks Brothers and scored an interview with him before the event started. He was such a pleasure to talk to and as always…I was obsessed with his outfit. Wearing Black Fleece head-to-toe (except for a killer pair of Louboutins), how can you not love this?

We started off chatting about Fashion’s Night Out and how I thought it was great he decided to come to Chicago for that stylish evening. That night in September was his first time here and he’s been back a few more times since. He says he loves Chicago now, and enjoys dining at Pump Room and going to Underground. Before our interview he had just finished brunch at Luxbar, which let’s be honest…you can never go wrong. I also told him his boyfriend Gary is one of my favorite people to follow on Twitter…and I’m kind of obsessed with his dogs, who get lots of air time on It’s a Brad Brad World.

So we all know Brad’s a stylist, has his own TV show and has written a book, but do you know his most prized fashion possession or favorite place he’s traveled? Well now you can find out!

What womenswear designer do you wish designed menswear?
Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel. I wore a head-to-toe Chanel outfit once and I wish he did more menswear. I’d also love to wear Jason Wu.

Favorite place you’ve traveled?
Tokyo for fashion. Greece overall. (where he met his long time boyfriend Gary)

If you had to choose a title for your second book, it would be…
Brad to the Bone.

What’s your process for getting dressed?
I start with one key piece and build everything around that. It’s similar for when I’m styling a client, except the key piece doesn’t always end up being the star of the look.

What’s your most prized fashion possession?
Right now I’m loving my Simon Spurr jacket with leather sleeves. It adds a little edge to my outfit.  But my Louis Vuitton duffle has the most sentimental value.

Brad, I leave you with one question…when am I going to see this Spurr jacket?? It sounds like something I’d be very interested in borrowing.

Fashionista.com: The Fashionista 50 & My Exclusive Interview With Lauren Sherman

On Tuesday, Fashionista.com , the leading resource in fashion news, released the Fashionista 50: The Most Influential People in New York Fashion. The Fashionista 50 recognizes individuals or businesses in the following categories: Designers, CEOs/Investors, Editors, Stylists, Buyers and Retail Fashion Directors, Photographers, Personalities/Muses, Writers, Behind the Scenes, and Marketing and Branding.

Check out the Fashionista 50 to see who made the cut.

Along with this amazing newly released feature, I had the opportunity to interview Lauren Sherman, the Editor of Fashionista.com.

Check out this exclusive interview below.

How did you become the Editor of Fashionista.com? What was your involvement with Fashion before?

My first job out of school was as an editorial design assistant at a luxury magazine based in London. I moved back to New York and was hired at Forbes to do Lifestyle. A year later, I was named Fashion and Style reporter at Forbes. In January 2010 I was hired to edit Fashionista.com.

What changes do you see being made in the Fashion Industry within the next 5 years?

More attention to the web. Web leaders will come out and become more established. People are still figuring it out now but it will be more established in five years. The legitimate sites won’t just have to do with traffic numbers; it will be more determined by influence.

As far as trends, I think designers are going to produce clothing closer to where they live. It’s a matter of control; keeping products the way they want them.

How did you come up with the idea for the Fashionista 50?

We have been working on it since last Fashion Week [in September]. I worked at Forbes which was very “listy” so I thought it would be a great way to get this information out.

What are you looking forward to most this Fashion Week?

I love fall clothes (fabrics, outerwear, layering). I’m excited for Theyskens Theory and Proenza Schouler. We are working with Swarovski this year so I’m excited to see how designers incorporate crystals into their looks.

A fellow Proenza lover? I think we have something here Lauren 🙂

——————————-

1. I see you currently reside in Delaware. Were you born and raised there or is that where you decided to pursue your art career?

Oh no, I just recently relocated to DE. I am from PA and then lived in Orlando for a bit while I drew with Disney. I thought my whole life that was what I wanted to do- but learned quickly that I wanted to be in fashion. And now we are here and loving it.

To answer your question about pursuing an art career: I decided I would be an artist I was about 6. I never thought about doing anything else with myself.

2. Did you go to school for art or was it more of a hobby for your growing up?

Both. It was a hobby very early, I took classes for fun and to learn more before going to school for it.

3. Were you ever involved in a different line or work before becoming an artist? If so, what?

I briefly taught art in middle school and met amazing talented children. But everything I have ever done in my life has been art related in some way- I really don’t know anything other than being creative.

4. I read from your bio you have your own line of t-shirts. When did you start making these? Also, where can they be found/purchased?

They are gone 🙂 Happily they sold out and used to be available on etsy. There may be a few left at buildanest.com if you were to find any but they went fast. I am working on something new since they were so popular. Just not sure how long it will take though- b/c I like to do things bigger, and better.

5. Where do you gather your inspiration for your drawings?

The runway, and amazing spaces.

6. How did you get involved with such big-name brands like DKNY and American Eagle?

I am constantly working and have been for years and years so I have been introducing my work to many companies and building relationships for a long time. They just really liked the work- and I am happy to say they have all been very supportive.

7. Who are your favorite fashion designers/lines at the moment?

This changes every season, but currently Marchesa, Oscar, Donna Karan, Diane Von Furstenburg, Chris Benz… all for different reasons.

8. What is your go-to garment/accessory for summer?

A long maxi dress. (With a mens blazer at night)
