In most interviews I’ve done, a common question I get asked is “what’s your favorite item in your closet?” Now, this is a tough one to answer. It could be something I wear the most, an item I stare at quite often but rarely wear, or even a piece with an interesting story. Although it’s difficult to pin-point just one item I love most, I tend to give answers that incorporate a story. It gives these possessions more depth and really shows people that fashion isn’t about having a bunch of designer stuff and showing it off. And that’s where we’re going in today’s post.

Well I think we can all agree that the best thing that happened in 2012 is that the world didn’t end (good thing because I was concerned I wouldn’t live to see the Girls season 2 premiere). But there were some other things that happened in fashion, in Chicago, in food and overall in life (well in my life at least) that were pretty awesome. So I wanted to take my last day of 2012 to look back on [what I consider to be] the best things that happened this year.

Because I’m itching for a red carpet post and the Golden Globes aren’t until January 13 (same night as Girls season 2 premiere…why would you make us choose?!) I wanted to round up the best red carpet looks of this past year.
Please note these are only from major red carpet events. There’s a movie premiere or some magazine party just about every week. But THESE are the red carpet events that really matter (plus I just can’t keep track of the other ones).

In the last couple of weeks, I’ve gotten some emails and tweets about gift ideas for someone who happens to like all of the same things I do (well let me tell you up front, that your friends have good taste). So I thought I’d give you a look at my personal wish list this year (although this is ever-growing, especially because there’s no way I’ll receive all of these things in one holiday season).
But really all I’m asking for this Christmas is…
