Talking Fall ’12 Trends With Jonathan Valdez

In February, I went to my friend Jonathan Valdez‘s tweet up event at the Mandarin Oriental during fashion week. There, he interviewed me about the Fall trends I was seeing on the runways and my favorite shows. Now that these runway looks are finally available in stores (can’t believe it’s almost Fall!) he posted the video on his blog, Orange Juice and Biscuits.

Dining With BCBG

Saturday night I had the pleasure of joining BCBGMAXAZRIA Creative Director, Lubov Azria, and the BCBG team for a runway presentation and dinner at Floating World Gallery in Lincoln Park. I’ve lived in Lincoln Park for over 2 years now and I can’t believe I never knew about this place. It was the perfect venue for such a chic evening.

Dior Couture with Raf Simons

The couture shows in Paris started this week and the most anticipated of the bunch was Dior (remember the whole Galliano ordeal and how they haven’t really had a creative director for over a year?)

Raf Simons made his debut as Dior creative director with the Fall 2012 couture collection that walked the runway for the first time yesterday. After the whole “who’s going to be the next creative director?” mess (and an abundance of rumors) I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with what Raf did with this collection.

Dior has always been known for ladylike silhouettes, but he took it to another level by offering feminine silhouettes 2 ways–the classic way and with an edge. He showed a lot of ankle-length dresses in light pink and white but also showed this silhouette in darker, edgier prints. Also seen throughout this collection were little peplum tops (most at that “is it a dress or is it a top?” awkward length) paired with pants. When it comes to couture, designers tend to go for this “dress with pants” type of look, which I find interesting because I can’t see this translating to real life. However, it’s couture….which has nothing to do with real life. So take a look at these pretty pictures and decide for yourself. How do you think Raf Simons did with his debut collection as Dior creative director?

Currently Obsessing Over: Prada Flames

There is nothing I love more than a really unique pair of shoes. Whether they’re actually worn or just admired on a shelf, shoes are what make me the happiest. And the Prada flame heels are no exception.

So between the car prints and the flames, Prada Spring ’12 was a stand-out collection…especially the accessories. I was beyond thrilled when I found out that the shoes from the collection were actually made into production! When it comes to certain avant-garde accessories, they’re not always made into production or picked up by a store so it can be disappointing after waiting months for the piece to become available…and it never does.

But thankfully the fashion gods were on my side for Prada Spring ’12 and the flame heels are definitely happening. Take a look at some of my favorites from the collection…

Are you into the Prada flames for Spring ’12? If they’re too much for you but you like the idea, try the thong sandals…perfect way to subtly incorporate some flames into your shoe collection (and an acceptable way to wear flip flops beyond the beach).
