#Trending On The Red Carpet

Don’t you just love end of the year Google round-ups? I sure do. First, your beauty questions answered. Next? It’s really just a popularity contest, but one that really matters…because, you know, GOOGLE is the judge.

Wonder who was trending on the red carpet this year? Let’s find out.

Although Google gives a top ten, I’m all about a top five (we all have short attention spans so let’s just get to the point). Some on this list might surprise you, others are pretty obvious, but as always feel free to share your opinion in the comments. Were you searching any of these celebrity red carpet appearances this year?

#5: Pharrell

Pharrell clearly enjoys experimenting with fashion so it’s no surprise to see his red carpet style trending. However, I don’t think he would have even made the top ten if it weren’t for that damn hat. When it comes to breaking the Internet in 2014, Kim’s ass is number one but I’d give Pharrell’s hat a close second.

#4: Madonna

I was very surprised to see Madonna on this list, as she’s not really doing anything new and exciting (on or off the red carpet). But I guess it makes sense, as this list is more about trending and not necessarily number of searches. And when you show up on the red carpet in a bodysuit and thigh-highs more than once (especially when you’re in your mid 50-s) it’s a recipe for #TRENDING.

#3: Lupita Nyong’o

Now this makes a little more sense. 2014 was definitely the year of Lupita (who made several appearances here on CCF…all for red carpet reasons, of course). Really the only time she’s done us wrong is in that confusing Prada situation at the Met Gala this year (still not over it and not in a good way). But when someone’s such a fashion chameleon, as Lupita clearly is, of course you’re going to be talking about her red carpet style. But because no one TALKS anymore (we just tweet, Gram, FB, Vine, whatevs) we can get these awesome stats from Google…which is WAY better than having an actual conversation, right?

#2: Lorde

Like Madonna, Lorde was another surprise to me. She pretty much only wears black on the red carpet, along with her signature dark lipstick, which is totally fine…it’s her thing. But how many images of Lorde in a black dress you can look through? Unless you’re trying to go through a semi-goth phase and are searching for style inspiration…not really sure how Lorde showed up as #2. But hey, you go girl.

#1: Rihanna

Like Lupita, there are many different sides to Rihanna but in an even wider variety of ways. Lupita can go pretty or funk it up for the red carpet. But Rihanna basically showed up naked to the CFDA Awards this year. And that, my friends, is how you get to number one (just kidding…sort of). It’s very rare to see the same celebrity in something like an Old Hollywood glam Zac Posen gown one day and nipple pasties the next (although Tom Ford nipple pasties…can’t leave that out). Rihanna really can wear anything and pull it off…and there’s not many people that can do that, celebrity or not. And that is why RIHANNA IS NUMBER ONE (at least when it comes to trending on the red carpet in 2014).
