Topshop Chicago, Fashion’s Night Out & New York Fashion Week

Sorry my blogging has been a little MIA in the last few days…between the Topshop shopping preview, the Topshop dinner, Fashion’s Night Out and now leaving today for New York Fashion Week, my life has been a little crazy. But I just wanted to update you on the events I attended this week, and stay tuned for Fashion Week coverage [hopefully] starting tomorrow!

Fashion’s Night Out in CHICAGO

Happy Fashion Month! With Fashion’s Night Out, Fashion Week and the Fall collections rolling out, September is THE month for fashion.

I recently posted about Fashion’s Night Out but I wanted to give you the run down on the must attend events for FNO Chicago. Keep in mind, this is not the full list of events…but it’s a pretty damn good list. And I’ll leave it at that.

Photobucket

900 North Michigan Shops: Hosted by Brad Goreski, this “Fame Fashion & Flavor” themed event will have a beauty bazaar with complimentary services, a runway photobooth from eDrop-Off, in-store promotions and more. I’m hoping Brad will be werking a major lewk. (900 N. Michigan Ave, www.shop900.com)

Saks Fifth Avenue: Host Brian Atwood will unveil the new 10022-SHOE salon at Saks, which includes his new B Brian Atwood line. This is a great opportunity because Brian himself is from Chicago. Oh, and he’s ADORABLE! (717 N. Michigan Ave, www.saks.com)

Cerato Boutique: Enjoy complimentary wine, champagne, dessert, and additional surprise discounts. Guests can pick-a-flower from Cerato’s “blooming discount garden” and receive anywhere from 10% to 40% off their entire purchase in addition to 20% off fall merchandise. Serious discounts and supporting local designers…definitely not one to miss! (3451 N. Southport, www.ceratoboutique.com)

Oak Street: Your favorite stores on Oak street are teaming up for a fabulous FNO. Sofia, Jimmy Choo, Pomellato, Vince (just to name a few) are all participating in this major FNO block party. I suggest starting at Michigan and Oak and working your way down. You’re bound to end up with some goods by the time you get to Oak and Rush. (www.oakstreetchicago.com/fno)

Cynthia Rowley: Dana Weiss of the Possessionista is hosting the exclusive launch of BANDAID Brand by Cynthia Rowley Adhesive Bandages  for FNO. Enjoy treatments from Bliss spa and enter for a chance to win a pair of Cynthia Rowley sunglasses. If you read Dana’s blog at all, that’s reason enough to go. (1653 N. Damen Avenue, www.cynthiarowley.com)

H&M: They’ve got some serious prizes to offer for FNO. One winner at each participating store will receive an H&M gift card valued at $200 and all entries will be entered to win the Grand Prize of an all-expense paid trip to NYC  to attend a prelaunch shopping event celebrating Versace for H&M. Pretty sweet! (840 N. Michigan & 22 N. State, www.hm.com)

Topshop: It’s opening day on the 8th…and Topshop is offering FREE makeovers, styling tips and more.  Get your hair done by top stylists from the Kelly Cardenas Salon, enjoy live VIP DJs,  and get a free gift with purchase when you spend over $100. Coincidence that Topshop opens the same day as FNO? I think not. (830 N. Michigan, www.topshop.com)

Macy’s: It’s a celeb-filled evening at Macy’s on State for FNO. Appearances throughout the night include Kelly Osbourne, Kyle Richards of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and celebrity stylist  Marcellas Reynolds to name a few. There’s so much going on at Macy’s…there’s something for everyone! (111 N. State, www.macys.com)

Events are generally from 6-9pm. More information at www.fashionsnightout.com

Fashion Week Cocktails at the Empire Hotel

Fashion Week in New York is approaching fast and with all of the craziness that goes on in NYC during this time, everyone can always use a cocktail at the end of the day right?

Well thanks to the Empire Hotel, you can sip on the most fashionable drinks throughout the month of September! These specialty cocktails were created in honor of the one year anniversary of Fashion Week’s new home at Lincoln Center. This year The Empire Hotel has partnered with Moises de la Renta (son of the fabulous, Oscar de la Renta) to custom design a special occasion signature dress that will be worn by the hotel’s “Fashion Week Ambassadors.” There’s even cocktail for Moises and his design called, “Moises’ Fashion Fix!”

Drink up! Because when it comes to fashion week…you’re gonna need it.

I’m looking forward to my return to NYC for fashion week this year…will you be there?

Red Carpet Fashion: 2011 Video Music Awards (Part 2)

It’s been a rough 24 hours discussing the “fashion” from last night’s VMAs…and trying to write about it in the nicest way possible (but who am I kidding?)

If you haven’t yet, I highly suggest checking out Red Carpet Fashion: 2011 Video Music Awards (Part 1) before continuing on. But I can’t tell you what to do, so let’s move on…

PhotobucketAdele

Between the tights and the “Big Rich Texas” hair, I just can’t get behind this. She has talent, but getting dressed is not it.

PhotobucketDemi Lovato in Mandalay

This girl has been through a lot lately so I feel bad criticizing her so I will just criticize her stylist. With regards to her age and her figure, this dress has no business being on Demi…and  her stylist should know that.

Photobucket Katie Holmes Azzedine Alaïa

This was so disappointing for me because I absolutely LOVE this dress. But this is a perfect example of how poor styling completely ruins a look. Why would you pair a gorgeous Alaïa dress with these faux hiking boots? It’s mind boggling to me! And someone please get this girl a red carpet coach…this is NOT how to pose when your photo will be circulating around the world almost immediately.

PhotobucketKreayshawn

I was hoping for some Gucci. Or Fendi. Or Prada. But instead I got Disney.

Photobucket Louise Roe in Tibi

Gorgeous! Love this girl. Love this dress. Love this dress on this girl.

Photobucket Mika Newton

Who are you? Why are you here? And what possessed you to wear those shoes?!

PhotobucketMiley Cyrus in Roberto Cavalli

Oh yet another Miley in Cavalli disaster. PLEASE MILEY…if you’re going to try and still be relevant, you need a new stylist/go-to designer. Clearly Roberto isn’t doing it for you.

Photobucket Zoe Saldana in Barbara Bui

She can do no wrong. Zoe can WERK any look. Love the unconventional pairing of these shoes with this dress. Perfection!

Who were your favorites and least favorites from the VMAs this year? Let me know in the comments section below!

Red Carpet Fashion: 2011 Video Music Awards (Part 1)

I should title this “black carpet fashion” but if you didn’t watch the VMAs you might be confused (the carpet was black…not red). And if you didn’t watch the VMAs, you’re very lucky because I lost several brain cells during the 2 hours (3 if you include the pre show). But let’s get down to it…it’s clear that several stylists are still on summer vacay and these “celebs” had to make due with what they had lying around (or with what people would loan them). Please note I did not include anyone from the Jersey Shore because let’s be honest…they’re all a train wreck right?

So the fashion is not the best I’ve ever seen, but thankfully there were a few people who stepped it up and made my time [somewhat] worth while.

Photobucket Selena Gomez in Julien Macdonald

She’s such a cute girl and although normally safe, I do like her red carpet choices. However, this one is NOT one of them. It has a hint of Marchesa but with a darker, witch-like vibe. It’s just not her! Stick to the simple stuff Selena…you’ll thank me later.

Photobucket Victoria Justice in Theia

Zero idea who this is. I’ve seen this dress a million times on the red carpet, usually worn by people I don’t know. It’s the cycle of D-list celeb fashion I guess…

Photobucket Kim Kardashian in Kaufmanfranco

I had to include a photo from behind of this dress…because it’s that hideous. 4 words–Skin colored back panel.

Photobucket Kelly Rowland in Falguno Shane Peacock

There’s alot going on with that dress, it’s not my favorite of the night…but DAMN she looks good.

Photobucket Katy Perry in Atelier Versace

THIS came from the house of Versace? Disappointing…

Photobucket JoJo in Marco Marco

I’m sorry JoJo…when did you become relevant again? I must have missed the memo. I’ll be sure to dig into my Napster playlist circa 2004. Oh and your dress looks cheap.

Photobucket Britney Spears in Moschino

Considering all of her red carpet disasters in the last 5 or so years, this isn’t terrible. I would have just gone with different shoes but this is a step in the right direction.

PhotobucketBeyonce in Lanvin

I’m trying to find something wrong (because that’s just how I work) but I really can’t. This is absolute perfection. The color, the cut…everything. Bravo Beyonce! Oh, and congrats 🙂

Photobucket Nicki Minaj in…toys?

It looked like her toy chest got angry, attacked her, taped her mouth shut and sent her to the VMAs. And I’ll leave it at that.

Keep checking back for part 2…coming soon!
