The VMAs are that one awards show that makes me feel super old, but I watch anyway because I enjoy a good choreographed dance and a little sparkle (plus when you see all those memes the next day, don’t you want to know what they’re all about?) Although the VMAs tend to bring out everyone’s inner tacky, there were some pretty amazing moments on the red carpet last night (actually quite a few best dressed picks…can you believe it?!)
You’ll never find more nudity on a red carpet than at the VMAs. And with Miley Cyrus hosting (therefore having multiple outfit changes), it was all just one mostly naked musical extravaganza. Justin Bieber cried. Taylor Swift [sort of] got back at Kanye. Justin and Britney’s denim moment made yet another revival (and it’s much better than last year’s and even the original). So, friends…let’s do this.
When it comes to awards shows, I’m more about the Oscars, Golden Globes and the Met Gala because booty shorts and mediocre music don’t really get me all that excited. I completely forgot the VMAs were on last night until I stumbled on Twitter between episode 4 and 5 of Orange is the New Black and realized I was missing one terrible Miley Cyrus performance. Then I saw this, and decided a red carpet post indeed had to happen.

It’s been a rough 24 hours discussing the “fashion” from last night’s VMAs…and trying to write about it in the nicest way possible (but who am I kidding?)

Between the tights and the “Big Rich Texas” hair, I just can’t get behind this. She has talent, but getting dressed is not it.
Demi Lovato in Mandalay
This girl has been through a lot lately so I feel bad criticizing her so I will just criticize her stylist. With regards to her age and her figure, this dress has no business being on Demi…and her stylist should know that.
Katie Holmes Azzedine Alaïa
This was so disappointing for me because I absolutely LOVE this dress. But this is a perfect example of how poor styling completely ruins a look. Why would you pair a gorgeous Alaïa dress with these faux hiking boots? It’s mind boggling to me! And someone please get this girl a red carpet coach…this is NOT how to pose when your photo will be circulating around the world almost immediately.

Oh yet another Miley in Cavalli disaster. PLEASE MILEY…if you’re going to try and still be relevant, you need a new stylist/go-to designer. Clearly Roberto isn’t doing it for you.

She can do no wrong. Zoe can WERK any look. Love the unconventional pairing of these shoes with this dress. Perfection!
