Strong Brow Game

Ever since Cara Delevingne made every 90s girl painfully regret over plucking their eyebrows, a strong brow is definitely here to stay. I just upped my brow game this week so if you’re looking to do the same, here’s a few suggestions.

We’ve already discussed the awesomeness of great brows, as well as my previous eyebrow routine, but as I become lazier with my makeup routine  (trying to turn that 5 minutes into 3 or less) I’m always looking for ways to make it all just a bit easier. I found myself spending the most time on my eyebrows (apparently I still haven’t figured out the most efficient way to fill them in, even though I’ve been doing it for at least three years now) so I wanted to find a way to change that.

eyebrows

I ended up at Benefit yesterday morning to try out a brow tint. I fill in my brows for both color and fullness (my eyebrows are significantly lighter than my hair so it’s nice to have them match), so if I could just have one less step in my day, why wouldn’t I give it a shot? And let me tell you…I’M SO HAPPY I DID. Five minutes, $20, lasts about a month…I’m now a brow tint customer FOR LIFE.

Ironically I received Glossier’s new Boy Brow the same day…and I knew my brow game would be forever changed. I’ve used a brow gel or pomade in the past but none have actually made my eyebrows look fuller (just tinted them / set them in place). So between this product and a super easy monthly service, my brow game is officially ?. I’ll probably still fill them in a bit with my usual Tarte powder / Laura Mercier brush but on the days where I don’t feel like putting on any makeup at all (which is often) I’m going to feel a lot more confident with this stronger brow.

I never really understood the importance of eyebrows until I started doing a little something with mine. I haven’t done anything to them since high school. I had electrolysis (weird for a high school kid I realize, but I haven’t waxed / plucked / threaded for ten years!) And I only started filling them in sort of recently, but man has it been a game-changer. Apparently between your brow shape, placement and consistency, it says a lot about your personality. According to my shape, I’m a creative person. DUH. Thanks eyebrows (and electrolysis).

Now just because I wanted to match my brows to my hair, doesn’t mean it’s for everyone. It works for me because I have dark hair and I have light brown eyebrows. But if you’re blonde and looking to match your brows…take note from Cara, it’s not always necessary.

Not only am I a fan of light hair with dark roots…I dig blonde hair with dark brows. I guess I’m a sucker for contrast!

Now when contrast is not a good thing is when the brows are too solid. I realize it’s “a look” but if you’re going for a strong everyday brow game, I’d leave some texture to it. Looks more natural, less severe…and overall just better (at least in my opinion). This is done easiest with a powder / gel, rather than a pencil (see #6 for reference).

And finally, you might think I’m crazy but I’m going to find a reason to rock gold brows at some point. I can’t think of a specific occasion off the top of my head, but all suggestions are welcome!

So what’s your current brow game like? Are there any products you use or services you love you want to share? (you can shop my favorites below) And am I way late in the game on this brow tint thing? TELL ME ALL OF YOUR EYEBROW SECRETS (especially if your name is Lily Collins).

  1. I’ve been using It Cosmetics universal brow pencil– it’s amazing! The harder you press down the darker the tint is so I can choose how dramatic my brow game is each day. I honestly am loving It Cosmetics in general– their mascara, cc cream and brow pencil were must haves in my make up bag this past season. Try out the brow pencil– it was my game changer.
